why did I just see qt play a whole game without buying it? He was playing against a sion. He preferred bloodthirster I think. No thornmail on sion tho.

The item is good, but there are other factors other than "does the enemy have armor to shred and more hp than me" to take into account: how many tanks do they have? If only 1 I probably will go for straight damage since by himself he won't pose a threat to me; Did the enemy team's tank/s build armor? If not I won't build this for the same reason: the damage amp is good, but %health damage or straight damage is better in those case since you will pay for a stat you won't use (bonus ar pen); Does the enemy have too much sustain? In this case the better option is Mortal reminder which gives less damage but also cuts theyr sustain which is probably theyr main source of tankyness after theyr armor; Am I ahead? Chances are that if you are ahead the damage amp will be weaker, meaning you will probably get more damage by building straight up damage; Does my champ benefit from Ar pen at all? if your champ doesn't benefit too much from it you probably don't want to buy it unless it's the ONLY alternative since you will get less efficiency from it;

There might be more, but I can't seem to find any more which might need a mention since the point should be clear enough.

You're right. But I wonder if he should have bought it even though only one tank. Sion was causing problems because he wouldnt die to focus fire and nothing could turn him from the engage.

Idk. I either think there is something wrong with the item, or qt made a mistake not to buy. Sion was relevant. Maybe it could use a small base armor scaling. Maybe bump the price to 3k and give it 25 more ad. So less effective vs squish than old LW. More effectiv than current LDR, but also harder to buy.

Well maybe he just thought more survivability was just better in that situation, maybe there were other threats that could potentially harm him and he needed more sustain than damage. Like I said there are a lot of possibilities, it might even go down to player's preferred playstile (more aggressive or more safe) or just disliking an item even if it's good. Also it might be that he just wanted to build it later if he wasn't full build. Or he might just have made a mistake like you say, far too many possibilities to think about it this much, the only way to get the answer would be to ask this to him.
