Riven has almost everything in her kit and needs to have something taken away.

  • Waveclear
  • Tankiness
  • Steroid
  • CC
  • Mobility
  • Range(Her windslash/AA range increase from ult)
  • Sustain(Her shield counts as sustain. If you can block everything thrown at you then you're sustaining pretty freaking well)
  • Escapes(Goes with mobility but eh)
  • Good early mid and late game
  • VERY few counters
  • A nice power spike(level fking 3)
  • Godlike snowball potential
  • Great scalings
  • None of her base stats are all that low at any point of the game.

Side Note: You can argue she's only Physical damage, but currently penetration items run through them like dust. Cleaver and LW are more than enough to get past your defenses. In which if you try and build 6 items of armor for it to mean anything you'll just get melted by any form of magic damage.

She's just as overloaded as Yasuo. She needs to have something removed or penetration items need heavy nerfs which will indirectly nerf a bunch of champs so I think nerfing Riven is the way to go.

the only thing she needs to have taken away is animation cancel... most of the problems from her kit comes from her being able to burst a target down by using all her spells while autoattacking while the target is stunned/knocked, if you make the time it takes to deal that damage more spaced out, other champions have a chance to fight back and it makes it a lot more fair than becoming a ping-pong ball and then being dead

on the penetration items subject, i feel like last whisper and cleaver's % pen/shred passives should share the same name, so that you can't stack them on a single champion to make any armor amounts become irrelevant, and make you have to work as a team for someone with cleaver to apply the shred so that the teammate with last whisper can still benefit from it

Making people build either LW or BC instead of both will cause far more problems than it solves, all that's going to happen is more AD replaces the lost arpen. In most cases LW and BC only get built on champions who don't need BOTRK and BORTK will just immediately replace whichever of those items doesn't get built.

Riven has been nerfed many, many times. Just build some armor early and play conservatively, a Riven will find a way to kill herself most of the time.

MalzaharAnyLane1 votes

Fiora can afford to play aggressively against Riven and Nidalee both, but has to ward for ganks hard and rush Tiamat/Hydra faster than Riven can by waiting till Riven blows her hop cooldowns and then bullying her before she has the AD to shield the harassment.

It helps if you forego flash to take exhaust/ignite and just all-in harder than Riven can ala how you were forced to play squishy tops against tanky S3 champs, but then that presents it's own problems even outside of laning phase.

BluePolarizer2 votes

Why is RIven not played in the LCS then? Usually LCS is first to pick up on OP champs.

GloriousKaiser1 votes

Oh yeah, I forgot RyeIt balanced around LCS... damn.

Sir Yamazuki3 votes

Soloq and LCS are not even the same game at this point. A champion doesn't need to be picked in the LCS to be strong. Some champions also work better in a soloq setting as well.

BluePolarizer1 votes

the reason is some champs are good against disorganized people who make mistakes, and some champs are only good with teamwork and no mistakes. The balance of this game should be assuming that all players are perfectly coordinated and make zero mistakes, and competitive tournaments come closest. DOTA is balanced on this philosophy - they buff 60% win rate solo queue heroes like SK while nerfing 30% win rate solo heroes like Io and Chen, because the 30% win rate solo heroes are pick or ban in competitive and the 60% win rate solo hero is a melee carry with no gapcloser or waveclear that no one picks.

DOTA has far greater hero diversity and less snowballing (team snowballing) than league.

And government choices should be made assuming everyone follows the law. NOT

BluePolarizer1 votes

Then maybe you should ask DOTA with their 10 million dollar prize pool and literally 20 features that League doesn't have, but should. Also note that few people on DOTA boards calls any hero OP, its almost always considered a l2p issue (learn to play, or learn to pick).

Wonder why DOTA players tell their sub 2000's (the equivalent of bronzes/silvers) to learn to play/pick, instead of whine about Riven OP?

Riven only has to build one main stat: AD.

You see every other top fighter? Always brings armor, mr, health, but Riven? Just has to build AD. It's encouraged, and it's what makes her snowball easily since she only has one build path.

If Riot really wanted to cut Riven's snowball power, they would probably change the scaling of one of her abilities into AP.

I would probably make her shield scale with bonus health if I was to change anything, but I don't mind Riven.

Making one of her abilities scale on a resource she doesn't want to build and probably never will doesn't fix the problem. It's just an easy and quick fix that has been worn out.

Litrally all you have to do to beat riven in the top lane is pick Renekton or Sion. Easiest win ever.

Sirsir1 votes

Literally all you have to do against most mid laners is pick Galio, easiest win ever

GP is actually insanely good the only thing he doesn't have that's keeping him from being insane is mobility. Which you incorrectly put in that list. Riven actually has what? 4 dashes, 5 if you include flash.

You can argue GP falls off from building armor/hp but in fact he doesn't. He can still 2 shot the enemy mid/adc since they usually aren't tanky at all. As well as the jungler if they're a bruiser/squishy(shaco/eve etc.)

If GP had a dash/blink in his kit he actually WOULD be broken. So that's a bad example. Riven on the other hand isn't limited by anything. Especially if penetration items are gonna stay the way they are. Either directly nerf her indirectly do so by toning down pen. items.

  1. GP has movespeed on his E so he does have mobility.
  2. You're helping me prove my point. Gangplank sounds OP in this list- so does Riven- and so does EVERY champion in the game. The real issue is you don't understand Riven or her weaknesses. You're completely blinded by your hate of "omg 4 dashes and a shield" which is just the surface. Go play Riven. If she has 0 limitations or weaknesses like you claim, she would be running rampant in high elo and the LCS. Pros love no weakness champions. Yet she has a lower win rate (50.5%) than top Cho'Gath and Malphite this patch.
Irelia Bot1 votes

If Irelia is nerfed Jax and Riven will likely take her current place in the LCS. You hear that right Jax will likely return to being played a lot if a few more nerfs happen.

The nerf cycle continues and marksmen are less effected since their power is more through items instead of their kits.

No, they nerfed his earlygame pretty hard... He isn't all that great now that the splitpush meta isn't as popular (at least the old version of it)

One at a time: Waveclear - only during the laning phase. The melee stuff doesn't count after that. Tankiness - I suppose the shield is big. Perhaps her AA resets with lifesteal? (See sustain) Steroid - Yes CC - Yes Mobility - Yes Range(Her windslash/AA range increase from ult) - A ranged ability. I wouldn't call it range. Sustain(Her shield counts as sustain. If you can block everything thrown at you then you're sustaining pretty freaking well) - Either count this or tankiness. I think it is more sustain than tankiiness. Escapes(Goes with mobility but eh) - again, I don't think double counting is fair (see mobility) Good early mid and late game - many champions have a good early, mid and late game. It isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't call Riven "opprssive" o/e at any stage in the game, really, so would not count this VERY few counters - Not necessarily a bad thing, so long as she doesn't counter too mant other champions A nice power spike(level fking 3) - power spikes are good. Moments of strength are just as important as moments of weakness Godlike snowball potential - I suppose. Not as big as many other champions at the moment, though. Great scalings - Yeah None of her base stats are all that low at any point of the game. - Health regen? Only her attack speed per level and her movement speed are anything special.

OnanThaMan1 votes

No, no more riven nerfs, the armor and magic resist system needs to be changed to compete with the new penetration system. She wasn't an issue before the changes, Malphite and J4 could easily outdo her before in the previous season. Buff armor/magic resist and she and other top champs that are all in with full ad/ap wont be as big an issue anymore.
