Has jayce ever been bad?

Like in the seasons I have played (Mainly 6.7.8 because 5 I didn't really play much other than like arams and blind) He has never been low tier. Always strong because that kit is fucking broken. Nothing screams counterplay quite like >abuse melee items when op >abuse ranged items when op >What are counter lanes when you can farm safely from ranged or zone off enemies with melee

Jayce has been a steady A/B tier, usually he's just reliable. Sometimes but rarely he gets to S tier but it's super rare

Everything that jayce does other people do better.

Very much disagree. Cant think of one champion that can long range q for over 50% hp

It's long range Q+E actually

so with two abilities let's take a look Varus Xerath Velkoz Karma

The varus thing by the way is a result of lethality cheese and is rarely played, but is still actually viable,

The issue is the lethality stat and how it interacts with jayce's Q+E combo, which is a skillshot, and is usually easy to read outside of a mastered jayce that knows the three different options for how to make it work optimally

Jayce lacks an ultimate, he's usually pretty squishy, and he has mana issues, in addition outside of long range poke, the current meta style of jayce is considerably weak in team fights unless he gets to catch people out. Think of him more like a leblanc or a nidalee in this regard

Jayce has two styles, which he does weakly, with ineffective cooldowns.

His long range poke, which has less total damage output than most long range poke, and his all-ins which are less powerful than true divers due to jayce lacking good sustain or defensive itemization within the lethality build.

To shut him down it's advised to build a gap closer item as well as a cc item, I've seen people use dead man's plate and iceborn to help drastically.

Enemies with good defense+sustain damage can beat jayce, so long as they have double dashes or range.

Jayce is outclassed by artillery champions at range, he's outclassed by other fighters in melee, the defining characteristic is that he is both.

But just as I wouldn't ever pick garen into teemo, I wouldn't advise on picking something that jayce is strong against into him. So don't go jax or tryn, try kled for the mobility and gap closers plus his sustain and damage output. Try renekton, similar reasons. Try maokai for the CC, try riven for the mobility, try quinn for burst and blind, and try Ekko for his skillcap plays. Also fiora can be very good into jayce once mastered.

I'm not really sure about the new irelia, but I would also state that camille is a viable skill matchup

Don't go stupid tanks like sion or malphite.

Jayce is optimal to fight vs mages and duelist fighters, though the duelist fighters are also where most of his skill matchups come from.

he's generally countered by health stacking, Jayce players will usually have a harder time with chogath than malphite, chogath can actually get to a certain point of becomming an actual issue for jayce and since he's an easy champ to play I'd recommend the counter pick (Just play passive and such)

Don't 1v1 jayce, treat him like jax, just don't 1v1 unless you're gonna win it.

Funny thing is proxy singed gives jayce issues too, the reason for this is that jayce has issues with health sustain, with his only decent life steal item being death's dance, it is by far not something a jayce wants to rush.

Jayce get's fucked by deathball metas, honestly a jayce is as bad as a quinn in 5v5 fights, sure he can be part of the fight, but he has his weaknesses.

as for mages, Leblanc Can deal with jayce, but she has to be careful (Mentioned this specifically because of your match history) Kat, akali, and Diana are smarter bets but you have to get past that ramp up curve

Finally there's Nidalee if you want to take the time to master her. If you learn Nid you'll be able to fight a jayce with a similar-ish champion.

Next i'd recommend checking out jayce mains on reddit (Link below) there are many situations in which jayce players commonly struggle so maybe if you're having issues with one specific champion you could in fact just find out what they have issues with

Oh and last thought.. Fucking wukong loves to shit on jayce, though it's wukong mains that do it more than anything else
