"Projectile"

#Disclaimer: This is merely an explanation. I do not agree with Riot's decision to do this, but I'm explaining to you how things are.

The in-game definition of a projectile is as follows: "An ability that_ travels_ from point A to point B with time in between." or "Any ability with a travel time." (not a cast time) This is regardless of whether the ability is "on the ground" visually or leaves an AoE in its wake.

Vel'koz's W, Braum's R, Taliyah's R, Rek'sai's Q, Nautilus's R, Nami's R, and Draven's R all do that, despite their visuals.

In order to fix the interaction between Yasuo's W and Braum's W and these abilities they would need to add new code to separate ground-based abilities from actual projectiles.

OR, to fix the clarity they would need to give every one of these abilities new animations which appear above ground.

Nautilius ult can't...is not considered a projectile because is homing so it was coded as a bunch of smaller aor spells

Yep. It's not fair or logical, but by Riot's incorrect definition of a projectile, that's how things are.
