From 20-30 people online in my friends list, came down to 0-2 being online.

If that doesn't say something about this game, then Idk what does. I had a lot of friends that were diamond/master and even challenger, but I see nobody playing anymore. Wonder why. xd

It's CERTAINLY not a few people on the design/balance team ruining the game by MEDDLING with the wrong stuff. It makes me want to CRAWL away from the game because I'm too addicted to sprint away.

i have absolutely no idea what you're talking about

ModAcademy Kayn49 votes

Geez, cause people definitely don't naturally drop from games, grow up, get jobs or responsibility, get lured away by other games or anything like that. There are plenty more reasons as to why people leave the game than just "game sux", so unless you figure out how all 20-30 of those people dropped, you're grasping at straws.

I used to have a sandwhich on this plate, but now I don't. This proves the existence of sandwhich stealing gremlins.

See, now that's your perspective.

your entire chain of comments is also perspective. stop using a logical fallacy to bog down the conversation.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

No, not really. My chain of comments is "possibility". There are several different possibilities to why a friends list has died down, so you can't accurately claim that it's due to the state of the game.

LetMeCarry198310 votes

Actually Dr Mercy is correct. People do drop from games. At any given time since season 5, when I started, there was always 15-20 people from my friend list online. However, the 20 from season 5 and the 20 today are completely different people. Not a single one of the regulars from previous seasons are still playing today. And next two seasons, there will be a completely different set of people. If I stopped adding people after season 5, I would have been seeing no one online today.

yes thats true, but there are reasons people leave games. game balance and poor design choices are the primary reasons for people to leave long lived games with ongoing support. my five real life friends who played league all got legit angry about how negative an experience the nuclear damage, insta death meta became that they all quit. we talk about it every couple days on the phone when deciding what to play, and that is the only reason anyone brings up other than a lack of different maps

TehNACHO3 votes

Or.

People have lives.

I take breaks from League whenever school starts/gets difficult. Once I get an actual job, I don't see myself playing League at all unless I have a free afternoon that isn't taken up by friends.

D357R0Y3R4 votes

very good answer

thank you

3TWarrior2 votes

okay, but what are the odds of less than 7% of them remaining in such a brief time period? Not everyone that plays the game is at the "become a productive member of society" stage of life

ModAcademy Kayn3 votes

If "become a productive member of society" was the only option, you might be right, but there are several other things that can explain it. League could do nothing wrong, but my interests could simply go else, like when Final Fantasy stole me for 9 months.

This started the Age of Cremlin Hunting. They have to pay the price for all those innocent Sandwiches stolen over the years.

CppL1 votes

80% of my friends list is gone. And they all are my friends in real life ,not just random guys.I talked to them and like 40% of them quit because game state is garbage and other 40% waiting for season 9.Hoping something will finally change. If not ,then their done to.So yea...i dunno

Ok sure but why1 votes

Yeah, but a sandwich is a finite resource.

I used to have an infinite sandwich on my plate, but one day, the sandwich started getting heaps of wasabi, anchovies and turnips thrown in, so then I stopped eating it.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Games are finite too. They don't last forever, people move on. Every game has a lifespan, it's all about what we can do to prolong it.

Ok sure but why1 votes

Yeah, and many, many people have agreed that one of the worst ways to prolong it is by stuffing wasabi, anchovies and turnips into it.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Than you've disproved your own point that the sandwhich is infinite? Therefore, the sandwhich is gone, therefore, a sandwhich gremlin has stolen my sandwhich. Checkmate atheists.

I don't see people on my friend's list because we all grew up. Most of them I added years ago and since then some of us hav gotten full time jobs, had kids, fallen on hard times so playing league/having internet isnt a priority, etc.

It's weird to say I've made a few good friends who's names I don't know but whom I still get excited to see online even if it's only for a few hours.

Skeletons Grave3 votes

sure thats your perspective. On the other hand me and most of my friends where already grown up, with full time jobs and families. Life situations change for everyone but it will never make all the people on your friends list stop logging on.
The real question to ask is what do these people on our friends list do for fun now? If the majority of them still play video games, they just dont play league then that tells the story by itself. That happens to be what has happened to mine as well as myself.

This is especially evident if you look at your friends match history and u see a couple games played every few months or so. This shows that they miss the game but dont enjoy it enough to put more time into it.

Not necessarily, at least on that last paragraph. Me and my two best friendos used to marathon league games together but as we got older one joined the Navy and cant play as much, one got temp banned and uninstalled, and I'm working on the whole being an adult think and literally can only play every few months. Not saying you're wrong or anything but that my post was more reflecting on how much we, as people irl and as a community, have changed in the last 6 years. It's a nostalgia trip my dood

you are literally and figuratively disagreeing with someone describing their own life, and then using your life as the correction. both perspectives are accurate. people cant play much at certain points in their lives, but they also choose not to play because of game changes/stagnation.

It's weird how i got the majority of my friendlist omw to level 30 and then everyone disappeared. I guess ranked and competitiveness on the long term can wear people out.

The game is just shit, that's why. Impossible to get people into this game when all they meet is smurfs and a oneshot meta.

Reohare2 votes

I don't think the game is shit, but yeah the balance hasn't been great lately. GBay99 video has never been more relevant i think, they are alienating every player that doesn't want a one-shot damage fiesta, but wants to play a strategy game instead.

An Enemy Sutando6 votes

This has been said a billion times already on this topic, and I'll repeat it because you people can't get it into your heads.

League of Legends, like any game ever, will eventually have people losing interest. For Christ's sake, this game has been out for nearly a decade, and you're expecting people not to grow tired of this game after that many years of playing it?

Seriously. I don't disagree that the balance team makes questionable decisions at times, but chalking literally EVERY NEGATIVE THING up to them is too much.

Ragnaveil3 votes

Its like using an old meme from 2-3 years ago, and continuously using it over and over. Wonder what meme that was...Oh wait, making Ghostcrawler look like a villain that wants to do nothing but murder balance no matter what game it is. Like fr, the whole "making the face of the team the villain" shit is getting pretty old. And saying the balance team is the reason why the game is dying should be chalked up the same.

People get tired or play less on a game they've played for years. It's just how things work. I pumped about a year and a half into Fire Emblem Awakening, then stopped playing because I pretty much lost interest. I didn't unlock every support in the game even though I had that much time invested. Also didn't help I accidentally deleted the file, but meh.

I pumped a lot of money and time into Elsword (about 5 years, starting at 2011ish). Stopped playing it right at the end of 2015 because compared to League, their balance philosophy was WAY more shittier than how balance kinda was this year. I felt that every bit of time, money, and effort I put in the game as much as I could was for pretty much nothing. So I stopped playing, and will likely not return to it and even invest in it unless they somehow can restore the 5 years of broken trust that myself and many other vets of the game gave them. (It was more the less greed (KOG/Nexon) that created the shitstorm that began ruining the game in NA)

At some point i'll likely stop playing League. Is that time anytime soon? Likely not. Each person is different, and people need to understand that.

I have a list of about 70 and I see about 4 at a time... and it's usually the same 2 people with another 2 sporadically while most quit

People just get tired of the game, It's like that with anygame. League just happens to be pretty shitty right now so people get tired of it more rapidly.

what are friends? you mean you can add people who are nice and you wanna play with in the future?... im kidding. no but seriously i have like 50 people on my friends list, and nobody ever coordinates to play with me. i mean im not great but im a solid player. i feel like theres more to it than inviting friends list people to your lobby. people have discord and groups they belong to where they have their own community, i want in on that. it would be amazing to play with people that actually knew what theyre doing

Corrupt Bliss3 votes

I have more friends than ever! My friends and I have all been playing since late S1 and early S2, and we love the changes that Riot comes out with. Sure there are some less fun patches (currently I dislike the weak state of bot) but in-all after work/school (curse graduate programs) we all convene online to hangout. The best part is that League of Legends helps us bridge not only states, but countries :D (Yes, there are some of us who endure an extra 200MS).

Cavesloth3 votes

Is it safe now? Wanted to make sure those riot apologists didn't trample me getting to this thread to say "The game is fine, nothing to see here, move along." LOLS.

Do games this old over time lose players? Yes. But not this much this fast, the game is shit, keep denying at all you want but at the rate this is bleeding players, I expect only the most hardcore addicts who just can't quit no matter HOW bad the game is will be left soon enough.

I used to have so many real life friends to play ranked with when I was Bronze way back in Season 2. But I actually improved at the game and now consistently get to Master tier every season. Meanwhile, my old friends are all still hardstuck Silver and Gold (Well, one of them is Plat 5 which is practically still Gold anyway). Every damn season I spectate as each of them plays hundreds of ranked games, making all the same mistakes over and over again. I try to coach and help them, and they always do really well when I'm there, but the moment I'm gone, it's like everything I said flies out of their brains.

Feels bad man. To play together, we can only play customs, normals, and RGMs, all of which are never as fun as ranked because whichever team I'm on completely stomps the other side due to the difference in skill level.
