That Rakan mobility...

option paralysis··59 votes·6,758 views

I like it that for once you put it on a support. I was waiting for a good support, last new one I liked was Braum. But I think Rakan's mobility will be too much and he will get nerfs after nerfs. Imagine Soraka in lane where she can just walk away and nothing else vs. a Rakan double E and W + R. You'd be totally useless. Keep in mind that Rakan also has a heal and shield for his ally and himself... Ummm, I think he's a balance nightmare waiting to happen. Now, don't downvote me cuz hurr durr you wanna play an op champ, you'll still gonna have to play against him too.

??? He as 300 AA range and his Q range that he needs to hit champs with to be able to heal is almost as short. Kan is all about mobility, offering protection to multiple teammates in quick secessions in fights or skirmishes. He seems fine to me, I don't know why you think it's too strong

An Enemy Sutando14 votes

It's something I like to call "New Release QQ Bias"

Where everyone thinks everything new is OP for some reason.

Erractic Eick5 votes

Yes, I recall a lot of people making a stink about Taliyah before she was released, but then she turned out underpowered.

Alas, the follow-up buffs were a bit too much, but that's not the point, really.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

Compared to the crippling nerfs most new champions receive shortly afterwards, upon release they ARE op. Think people just get worried and want the new champs to be nerfed before they start enjoying them instead of after so people know what they're getting into

Verdade2 votes

Lee Sin of supports. He's generalist with shitton of mobility.

Durability? Check (P) CC? AOE?! Check (WR) Mobility? Check (WER) Healing? Check (Q) Shielding? Check (E) Hard engage? Check (WR)

Damn, he's not even melee!

Clementine3 votes

A shield every 40 second is durability? You don't bring up his mana problems early game, or how his Q is a slim skillshot with little range that can be blocked by minion in order to get the heal. No wonder you EUNE people have such bad reputations.

Verdade1 votes

It goes down to 16s CD and is further reduced by damaging enemy champions.

Mana problems? Have you EVER seen mana costs of other supports?

Rakan's W shields up to 380+1.8AP for 100 mana with 12s CD. Janna's E shields for 240+0.7AP for 110 mana with 10s CD.

HE OUTCLASSES DAMN JANNA WHEN IT COMES TO SHIELDING ALLIES!!!!

His Q has very low mana cost and insane potential HPS, he has highest HPS in the league, second only to Soraka, a dedicated healer. Sure, he has to land skillshot, but IT HAS 6s CD and HE ALSO HEALS HIMSELF.

So, in the end you have support with stronger shields than Janna, Alistar's QW on single ability, sustain/healing ability with huge potential and shitton of mobilty on top of it.

Rakan's **W **shields up to 380+1.8AP for 100 mana with 12s CD. Janna's E shields for 240+0.7AP for 110 mana with 10s CD.

HE OUTCLASSES DAMN JANNA WHEN IT COMES TO SHIELDING ALLIES!!!!

Yea that knock up that you just mentionned that is ''better'' than Alistar's combo sure as a good shield on it...

Verdade1 votes

So, are you denying he has stronger shields than Janna?

Nymzo2 votes

No I'm saying you are a fucking idiot because you somehow manage to think that's his e is his w despite talking how ''op'' his w is.

Joseraph1 votes

Convenient that you forgot Janna's shield has a shorter CD(especially if Rakan's E cooldown starts after the second cast) an AD steroid, and can be casted on turrets.

crippler384 votes

Doesn't Janna also get to shield towers as well as give AD to shielded targets? I'd imagine that's why it's slower.

Also Janna's kit down to her passive is extra peel, so that's probably why her shield is lower than his, also you made sure to account for him shielding two people right and doubled his base shield for your post right? Meaning he shields one person for 190+.9ap?

I didn't check the numbers so I'm asking.

Verdade1 votes

He can use it second time on the same target for free. And of course Janna provides other utility, however remember the outrage she caused few months back with shield stacking? And now it's going to be even worse, with windspeaker, redemption and censer his Shields with reach like 500+2.4AP, which is ridiculously strong, using such shield on ADC basically doubles ADC's EHP...

And that's just one small part of his kit.

crippler381 votes

oh I thought he had to target someone else with the shield so it was split between two people.

However here is what I imagine would happen if you tried to stack shields with Rakan, since he dashes to the target lee sin style and is himself a not so tanky mage (not squishy by any means but not super tanky) I imagine they'll be cced together and blown to the many areas of the globe by say an alistar.

Or bard things, because bard things.

Nymzo3 votes

Durability? He has the least amount of health of all the disrupters (1976 at level 18 while most disrupters have around 2100 at level 18).

That shield that he got is far from making him tanky.

Verdade3 votes

254+0.9AP shield with 16s CD reduced by attacks is MUCH better than 130 extra base hp at level 18...

Nymzo1 votes

Pretty much anyone with dmg items can pop that thing in one auto/spell.

Even tanks can do it lol.

Verdade2 votes

That is irrelevant. How is 130 base hp better than this shield?

Nymzo1 votes

Because it's permanant? And you can buy more health items?

Meanwhile, you can ''upgrate'' your shield for a shit ton of golds that barely make it stronger.

crippler383 votes

Pretty sure a regenerating shield is basically like having higher base health isn't it? What's the difference between having a shield for say 100 and 100 more hp if you don't get that hp back?

The man will always have that shield on him so it might as well be a self heal that happens to overheal since it happens to work in combat right?

Nymzo2 votes

Um... maybe you are right.

crippler381 votes

I'll try explaining it better since I tend to confuse people.

What's the difference between a champion with 3000 hp who heals 100 every 10 seconds and one with 2900 hp and a 100hp shield that regenerates every 10 seconds?

I for the life of me can't think of anything unless there's something in league that affects shields differently.

Nymzo1 votes

Well there's not that much difference except a few details:

Itemsation doesn't upgrate a shield all that much, only item 3114 and item 3190 can do that in some ways.

Meanwhile buying more healths is more effective.

There's also the fact that if you have one or multiples ocean drags, you will recover your life quickly.

But honestly, there's not that much difference.

crippler381 votes

OK good because I thought my years of thinking of shields as just extra health thrown onto your character that replenishes from something besides lifesteal or hp5 was wrong.

YoungSirJ0ey1 votes

The shield comes in bursts, meaning it could lead to you dying in situations where you would've survived if you regenerated 10 hp/s. Other than that, not much.

KuroCaliber2 votes

How many games reach lvl 18? Think about his early game with 40s CD on his passive.

KuroCaliber18 votes

He does have pretty low ranged though, easy for supps like blitz to counter

rtbf2256182412 votes

But he can jump twice, including on minions...extended range on Xayah aswell.

Given how quick it is, you need to predict it because it's practically a lightning strike knockup.

JoeMG2 votes

Pretty sure he can't E to minions. He could W to them but that would be a waste of his knockup.

Sire Hippington10 votes

including on minions

Nope, only allied champs.

rtbf2256182411 votes

Oh i thought the Gameplay clip showed him using a minion to knock them up.

underscores2224 votes

His shield dash is champs only. His ground dash-knockup is an area target.

FakeGravity3 votes

to bad the second you pull him he will just jump backto xayah after Q to heal and make blizcrank Q useless on him

if you want to counter him you need to be able to burst his adc fast before he can save it with heals and shields while knocking you up

KuroCaliber1 votes

I'm a little biased cuz my hooker is thresh, and well, I've stopped trist from jumping away with Flay. As far as I know, the second jump only works if the first went through?

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

You play against him like you do Soraka and burst him first actually since he has no way of protecting himself outside of his Q heal (which has a delay). He is actually PRETTY squishy for how short range he is (I believe shorter than Thresh) and his heal being EXTREMELY conditional.

Nymzo15 votes

He's a squishy ranged disrupter who goes in melee range for his cc.

Just pick Ali or Leo and you will be fine.

Verdade1 votes

Funny you mention Alistar.

Alistar's staple is definitely QW combo...

515+1.2AP, 13s CD, 170 mana cost. Can fail, requires target and Alistar is very ignorable until his 13s CD abilities come up

Meanwhile

Rakan's W

230+0.5AP, 12s CD, 90 mana cost. It's targeted AOE, and Rakan still has 3 other abilities. Knockup duration and range are the same.

Now, who's better? It's not even funny how Rakan gets stronger version of Alistar's QW

Except that Rakan has a delay which means mobile ADC or those with a quick escape like Ezreal's E will be able to dodge it.

Meanwhile, Alistar's combo can interrupt dashs and will only miss when flashed out, stealth or lantern.

I love how you mention Rakan's other spells but you deliberately didn't mention Alistar e or ultimate.

Also, with his heal and ultimate, Alistar can take much punishement than Rakan.

Now, who's better? It's not even funny how Rakan gets stronger version of Alistar's QW

Who's better? Nobody is better than the other. They have different roles: Rakan's role is to be a mobile and slippery disrupter while Alistar's is to be a big and durable wall that can peel, engage or disengage.

In case you didn't realize, Rakan is good at engaging, but his peeling and disengage potiential is average at best.

Verdade1 votes

FYI Rakan has actually stronger Shields than Janna (380+1.6AP vs 240+0.7AP) and his potential HPS is second only to Soraka (not counting his selfhealing.

Nymzo2 votes

So now you change subject because I'm right?

I love how you think a disrupter can outshield and outheal 2 enchanters, you definately played a lot of support games.

Edit: AHAHAHAHA, the gold 3 who only plays Brand and Vel'koz, fucking hilarious

Verdade1 votes

You wanted to talk about Alistar's other abilities ;) Simply put, he has EVERYTHING support would want without any real downsides. He's Lee Sin v.2

Support main since S1, you're welcome. Soraka main in S1/2, switched to Morgana and then to Tahm/Bard and now im playing Naut/Vel'koz.

Nymzo3 votes

Except if you didn't even mention Alistar at your last post, you tried to change the subject.

Also Lee sin is a generalist, Rakan is not.

Also also, you're a fucking liar.

No games until season 6

See that? There goes your credibility.

TyrekGoldenspear12 votes

Actaully Raka won't be completely useless, when Rakan dashes at her to knock her up Raka can drop a silence under their feet to keep him there and prevent him from doing any tricks.

Votable Jester6 votes

I was a little confused with the "Raka" since we now have someone else with "Raka" in their name (and it's much closer to the full name).

PeepingPeafowl7 votes

I think the delay before the CC on the jump is really going to keep him from getting crazy as almost anyone with a stun or silence can hit him before he pops. For instance Soraka lands an E at her feet and just runs away from him after he tries to jump her.

Thresh is also gonna hard counter this guy, flay just destroys everything he wants to do, Rakan cant ult anywhere near him or Thresh will flay him out of it.

ninjaroxas8 votes

Thresh also has 100% wifesteal don't forget

YoungSirJ0ey1 votes

I hate you and love you at the same time.

Sire Hippington5 votes

His mobillity is actually not that great, i feel more mobile on braum than i did on rakan on pbe. His base ms is prettsy poor, his W locks him in place for 1 sec after the dash and has a high cd, his E doesn't have that much range (unless you dash to xayah) and can only target allied champs, NO MINIONS and also has a quite big cd, all while he has to be VERY carefully bout his posiitoning as he'S insanely squishy for his range. With his ult he's pretty mobile, but just a 4sec window once each fight.

JoeMG2 votes

Can you taunt the same enemy more than once during his ult? I thought I saw it happen on stream but I could have been mistaken.

ninjaroxas2 votes

The ult can only hit each champion once
