Why do two players have to pick at the same time?

disregardable··16 votes·970 views

Waiting 15 minutes because fourth pick decided to go an ADC after saying that I should, 5 seconds before I had to pick something. Sorry for not knowing what to counter Renekton with. Seriously, decrease the time to 15 or 20 seconds and let us pick individually.

Team Builder ranked is on the works at the moment.

However, i think your idea is good. Drafting should be 20 - 30 seconds per player(total of 3-5 minutes) and it should be 1 at a time.

double picking is intentional design to allow each team to get 1 counterpick per turn. think of it this way:

first pick is valuable because you can take a contested champ

second pick allows you to counter first pick, making it valuable

third pick is blind

fourth pick allows you to counter third pick

fifth pick is blind

sixth pick allows you to counter fifth pick

seventh pick is blind

eighth pick allows you to counter seventh pick

ninth pick is blind

tenth pick allows you to counter ninth pick

So forcing double picks makes it so that the team who first pick is not blind picking the entire draft.

Wouldn't it the opposite problem? All 9 picks would only be counterpicks? Personally, I think that might make more interesting teamcomps.

Not necessarily. Example:

I pick Azir top as first pick Second pick is Irelia to counter my Azir

Third pick doesn't get to counterpick because Azir and Irelia are laning against each other, so their pick is essentially blind. Sure, they take into consideration that they are playing with an Irelia and Azir, but they are not as directly impacted by this as their laning opponent would be. So if they choose Katarina mid they might end up against a Leblanc or Riven and get destroyed, which limits their options.

Wait, I understand your point now. Picking two at time makes it more likely that the enemy team won't take a champion that isn't in your lane. Alright, fair enough. That problem would be easily solved by keeping the current picking order but only picking once at a time.

Ie: Blue team: first pick Red team: second pick Red team: third pick

etc.

How is that different from the current system?

The current system has teams picking twice at the same time so that teams are forced to blind pick at least one champion on every pick cycle. If it were just one pick per cycle then one team would be stuck with only blind picks while the other team got only counterpicks.

Posted then realized what you meant.

I think that would be fine. The only issue I see is that one player would have a much longer time to decide their pick than the first. And champ select might end up taking a super long time if everyone is getting 30+ seconds to decide. Giving someone only 15-20 seconds to assess a composition or matchup and pick a champion could be problematic.

Right now there are 6 rounds of 40 seconds each, 240 seconds total, 24 seconds per person to stay exactly the same. I think that it'd be fine to reduce the time because there's just less communication necessary if pick order is cemented 1 by 1.

I understand what you are saying but i would like to know how irelia counters azir...

Irelia has an easier time farming against Azir than a lot of melees and she puts a lot of kill pressure on him at lower levels while his cooldowns are lower. She wins the lane and her roam is far stronger. Azir outscales obviously, but she's stronger than him for a long time.

Actually, yeah, this is a smart idea. Given the community, the change would be welcome. Please enact this.

Also, could we make a map like TB has so they list the lane they'll be in (for your own team only).

Anyone with a ranged auto.

Do you see my summoner's icon? Been there, failed that.

Jinx fed Caitlyn fed Kalista fed Tristana if not immediately fed, got camped and then fed Teemo fed Gnar fed Ahri fed

I just got Vayne, so I'm excited to try that out (will probably feed, but eh). I don't think I've ever won lane against one. I have to be in another lane and then come top when I'm fed.

Other thing you can do is just play irelia or sion and outscale with teleport.

As most of those you can beat a renekton. I think your troubles are coming from not knowing what your enemy will do. Watch a couple renekton videos on youtube and see what they do, and take note of his strengths, weaknesses, playstyle, etc etc etc then try playing against him with those again ^-^

This is a great idea. I hate it when I pick at the same time as the person below me and they just instalock the role I want. This could save so much trouble with that kind of thing with only a minuscule drawback.
