Replace the current IP reduction schedule.

Does anyone else think it's ridiculous that a champion needs to sit at 6300 IP for three years before being reduced? Similarly to how after a week a champion's price is reduced to 6300 IP, shouldn't a champion be reduced to 4800 IP after 6 months or a year? They aren't new anymore. I get that League of Legends is a for-profit business, but it feels ridiculous that we wait SO long for a single IP reduction. Look at the store right now. There are SIX ROWS of champions at 6300 IP. Isn't that a bit excessive?

The schedule worked when they churned out champions like a machine gun. Now the amount of time a champion will sit at 6300 IP is borderline insane.

Worgslarg11/11/2014, 1:14:16 PM13 votes

I'd rather see more champions reduced each release (minimum 2, max 4 depending on price range.)

Akki Rasetsu11/11/2014, 4:33:34 PM9 votes

What do you mean 'right now'? Aren't there always going to be six rows of champions at 6300 IP? It makes sense that each time a champ is released, another gets a price drop.

McDestiny11/11/2014, 8:38:00 PM7 votes

I agree. IP prices need to fall sooner after release. This is especially true now that we're getting less frequent updates. I very much doubt it encourages people to buy more champions with real money, but it definitely discourages people from playing with and experimenting with a wider variety of champions. Besides, it seems probable that owning more champs correlates with buying more skins so it could end up making them money. Of course, we don't have their market data or anything so it's hard to say for sure, but from a player experience standpoint high IP prices are a bummer.

Uiru11/11/2014, 9:12:29 PM6 votes

Previous to this there was no IP reduction schedule.

I don't get to play that much (my baby cries all day sometimes and she still makes more sense than most of the balance team) and I still manage two 6300 champs a month, sometimes with a damn icon thrown in.

The way things are, there will never be more than 32 champs at 6300. When this schedule was announced, they immediately dropped seven to 4800. Every three champs, an additional one goes down too. ~Uiru

hmm, might have a point.

It takes 460,000 IP currently to unlock all champions.

A user would have to play 5 hours a day, every day, for 2 straight years to come close to generating that IP. (Calculations assume 100 IP per hour, which is balanced out between losing games and first wins.)

That's a bit much to ask. In my opinion, Riot needs to double the rate IP is given out.

BrightNooblar11/12/2014, 12:19:20 AM5 votes

There are nearly as many 4800 as there are 6300. In about six more releases there will be more 4800 than 6300.

Maybe they could speed up the system and reduce a few champs at once, but the trend is towards the 6300 price point being the SMALLEST since every time one is added there, another is removed. Eventually 4800 will bloat to the largest by a good margin.

It's not just a "this is a business" thing. Riot providing you with a service! And one, by your enthusiasm, I would think you appreciated. I don't understand all these posts complaining about paying some money for a product I, personally, have sunk WAY more hours into than most 50-60 dollar games.

And it isn't the end of the world if you don't own all the champs. Free champ rotations ensure that you can try people out periodically, and you can spend that ip where you want the champ most. And if you can't stand the wait, then that's great. You're supporting their business and helping us all continue to enjoy LoL.

Now, to explore the flip side, imagine that champs dropped quickly enough for most players to own most of the champions. Riot's profits drastically drop in that scenario, which I wouldn't wish on them. I want them to continue to see success, not only because they deserve it for making such an awesome product, but so that other companies will see what it takes to be appreciated by the public.

The more money we make for LoL, the more other companies will pay attention to the way they update their game, treat their players, etc. This is a good thing for gamers. Even if we had the power to strip Riot of their profits, it would be shooting ourselves in the foot, as gamers, to do so.

I think all of you are complaining about something you earn from playing the game. You can easily get that amount in a week or two. RP, that I could understand. But IP isn't something you pay for. Quit whining.

I think, between champions and runes, just about everyone believes that the current state of IP pricing is atrocious. I think we all just want to know why it is the way it is. Riot, could you provide some insight?

Kerrigan 4 Prez11/11/2014, 11:23:59 PM3 votes

Whoa, i didn't even know champs got reduced.

Muted Summoner11/12/2014, 12:07:24 AM2 votes

Just play more and/or pay rp when the champions may be on sale but that means you'd be paying to play the game...can't have none of that now can we... http://postimg.org/image/mrvywcrbz/

Honestly it doesn't take long to farm IP. Even if you only play 2 games a day on average and win 50% you're netting yourself a new champ every 20 days or so. That works out to around 20 champs a year and if you buy one of the dirt cheap start bundles you'd have a fairly large selection quickly.

Cynnimun11/12/2014, 6:35:14 AM2 votes

If you're going to complain about this, Riot could have easily made it so that the champions were ONLY purchasable via Riot Points, not Influence Points. I've been playing for less than a year and I bought maybe 80% of the champions, minimum, with IP only. I understand it takes time to grind down the IP, but still. There's better things to complain about than an item in a game that's essentially free.

2pudge1cup11/12/2014, 2:13:51 PM2 votes

The schedule sounded fair at the time since there was nothing before and riot was churning out champs left and right.

Plot twist: Riot slowed down release schedule to 5-7 champs per year.

Onegarion11/12/2014, 9:04:53 PM2 votes

I think they should make the IP balance based on the champions difficulty. Making easier champs at the bottom 450 IP and the hardest of champs be 6300 IP. I don't mind a gating of sorts, but to have it how it is where its based on number of champions released is a bad gating system. If they want to continue to gate they need a smarter way. I think it would help newer players understand as well that as the champions get more expensive they get harder and harder to play. Making more time needed to get to the next Tier of champs. Just a thought.

bump for riot post

Cynnimun11/20/2014, 2:01:31 AM1 votes

I just grind down IP pretty well. I don't win every game that I play, no way in hell sadly, but I win somewhat often. That's around 100 IP average, for me at least. That, and I grind whenever there are IP bonuses going on lol.

Cynnimun11/20/2014, 4:32:20 AM1 votes

Honestly, most of my games take less than an hour. I can fit around two or three games in that time slot...on top of that, Riot does give you 400 RP once you hit a certain level. Save that and use it to buy IP Boosters, haha. On top of that, from levels 1-30 you should have garnered a large amount of IP to use on champions, or even runes.

Cynnimun11/20/2014, 4:55:37 AM1 votes

I dunno what to tell you then. I mean in less than a week alone I ground out 8+k IP in order to grab Kalista. I find next to no issues with grinding IP down, but that's just me.
