Proposed Nami changes

I made a similar topic for Lulu a few weeks https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/HzZnQolA-proposed-lulu-changes back and I felt maybe i could do a pass on all the supports, like a pseudo enchanter update.

Nami in my opinion is the epitome o a Generalist champion. she has basically a whole bunch of strengths but so clear nice. She just ha a bunch of skills that are thematic visually.

From what we can tell, her theme should be that of the ebb and flow, acting like the equilibrium force in a teamfight, turning the tides into her teams favor, but outside maybe her WW, i feel this isn't pronounced enough.

I stress that I don't want to change Nami drastically (think of this as a small scale rework more than something like Warwick) her presence affects the battle should shift Nami more towards a particular niche as opposed to just being a "good in meta" champion.

The way I envision Nami, she seems to be the support you choose in a disadvantageous matchup in terms of Comp. She would be stronger when your team is on the backfoot than when her team is ahead, and be able to turn the tides into a win. Her niche would be that she is the support that excels more than any other at turning a losing situation around, but not the best at pushing an advantage.

Passive: Surging tides.

(unchanged)

Q - Aqua Prison

Nami sends a Bubble at target location dealing magic damage to all enemies hit, revealing them, Suspending them for 1.5 seconds. If the spell hits both allies and Enemies, her allies are granted a small shield bubbleshield based on the number of enemies it hits.

**W - Ebb and Flow **

  • Flat heal on ally and self cast lowered.
  • Bounce Heal increased after hitting enemy.
  • Now heals more and less relative to enemy and ally missing health. Heals for more when ally is low, deals less damage when enemy HP is lower.

E. Tidecaller's Blessing.

Unchanged.

R - High Tides

Nami unleashes a Huge Surge of water that floods lanes and jungle passages, contouring terrain, initially damaging and knocking enemies back briefly for .05 seconds upon initial impact and slowing enemies by 40% for 1 seconds. The flood continues to surge for 2/2.5/3 seconds, slowing Enemies that remain in it by 15% when enemies move against the stream. Surging Tides buff refreshes on allies in the water and is doubled when allies run in the direction of the stream.

                                                                                               ** Context**

These changes make it to where Nami is far more powerful turning a disadvantageous situation around than simply pushign an advantage. However, it also rewards her for making riskier clutch plays even in situations where she is ahead. These changes of course make her more appealing in SoloQ, but I feel that that the following changes to her Ultimate will also keep her relevant at high levels of play.

The change to her Q make it to where there is a higher reward for using it when an ally gets surrounded. But at no cost to her Q when being used as a catch tool.

The change to her W makes it less good as a regular heal, and better as an equilibrium tool for turning fights around.

It also makes it less good to just use on an ally out of combat as it heals more when used when there is enemies to bounce off of, making it less of a general sustain tool.

Ultimate change I feel is almost what the ability always should have been. It is not only a really interesting idea that fits Nami, but I also feel it would really give her a strong interesting reason to pick her even at the high levels of play.

Also, it would finally not get completely deleted by Yasuo W. That's right Riot, i can slay memes too!

Because it speeds allies moving With the current and slows enemies goign against it, it make the ability strong without compromising its old strengths while also making it better when you are behind than ahead.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

Next on the list will probably be Sona.

It's not that I am unwelcome to change, quite the opposite, but we don't need to make drastic changes to balanced champions; it's unlikely they will remain that way.

Agreed. Nami has been my pocket pick pretty much since she was released. I like that she sits just under the radar. She is an incredibly strong counter-engage champion - THAT is her niche. She can be devastating in the hands of a seasoned Nami player such as myself. I enjoy watching the pathetic Support 'mains' (who play her passively with Ancient Coin hoping to get carried) get heavily punished for being a windless ward-bitch.

Poke the living shit out of the enemy bot lane during lane phase, then win the game with a smooth Tsunami into double/triple/4-man/5-man bubble.

Nami shouldn't be touched for the same reason that Lee Sin shouldn't be changed, and for the same reason that the Maokai rework was an absolute failure. Being a generalist isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's not a bad thing to have a safe champion that can fill out your team comp. There are probably better picks for specific team comps, but you won't necessarily help nor harm what your team wants to do.
