The ranking system has a serious flaw in it.

The sheer amount of people placed in bronze and silver makes the matchmaking system so diluted. I ward, I know how to not feed, I generally win lane or break even. But somehow I'm considered in the same elo as a varus that starts ancient coin? My ezreal who rushes guinsoos? My xerath who doesn't autoattack a single time to proc his passive and says he can't cs using his abilities? When you dump, I believe it's 40% of the league population, the sheer amount of skill and knowledge that exists in a single division alone is a massive gap. Why is it set up this way?

Obviously I've been bouncing around between B3-B1 for awhile, but I want whether I win or lose to be based on whether or not the skill of my opponents is greater than mine, rather than 'how many people on my team have no idea what they're doing?' How can I advance out of bronze when I'm never playing with competent people?

Is it right that in order to get out of bronze, I have to hard carry the team out? How do I learn to hard carry the team out if I'm not placed in games that give me an opportunity to learn what people who DO hard carry out of bronze do?

to get to where you "belong" come out AHEAD in cs, come out AHEAD in gold, YOU roam. YOU ping the map. YOU tell your team mates where to go. you have to make sure you are in a position where you matter.

it takes much longer to rank up when you arent playing mid lane or a snowball champion. basically it takes hundreds of games for you to be accurately placed because you dont always get your main role and champions.

Bullshit. I have had a feeder or afk 2/3 games for the last SIX TIMES I HAVE BEEN IN SERIES. That does not accurately represent my skill. If you don't believe me I can show you.

lets assume 2/3 of your games are ruined, well say you played 10 games. so around 6 of your games you lose because you've been cheated, fine. you still have 4 other games which are "normal" and you have an impact on. so of those 4 if you go 2-2 you wont rank up, and will probably decrease in rank because 6 games on average are auto loss.

if you win 3/4 or better, then great, you have room for advancement.

the reason being because if you play 300 games you should see an equal number of games ruined in the other direction, 2/3 games the enemy team will feed you and you will be allowed to snowball. but you still need to come out ahead in your "normal" games. otherwise you will just go back to where you started.

so you absolutely need to constantly perform well.

and lets factor in the times you dont get your preferred role, then you are slightly un-favored to win that game too. so now you need to play even more games to compensate that value.

consider this, i frequently snowball in the midlane or adc position, i come out ahead in farm gold kills towers etc etc. this gives me most of my wins. however when i play something like jungle i get maybe 2 ganks off for my team, but my laners will straight up lose lane and feed. meanwhile the hyper farmed enemy jungler didnt need to gank, instead now he has more gold than i do. suddenly the enemy team has a huge advantage, now im not in a position where i can make a whole lot of difference in the team fight setting. these games i wont necessarily have been the reason we lose, but at best ill be even with the enemy team and my team will be behind and there wont be a whole lot of difference i can make. (looking at you 68cs swain top 32mins into the game) (looking at you jinx bot whos 1/6 because she constantly takes morg bindings) etc etc.

yes the ranking system is terrible solely because of ruined games, but on the flip side just playing countless games will get you up should you deserve it.

I have a question:

The sheer amount of people placed in bronze and silver makes the matchmaking system so diluted.

Let's say we consider the fact that rank and matchmaking have nothing to do with each other (because they actually don't, they are completely separate systems), what are your complaints about the "serious flaws" of the ranking system that should we bother paying attention to?

I guess my issue is this - Apparently to get out of bronze I have to learn to carry 4 feeders on a regular basis. How do I learn to do this? I'm not doing it solo queing, so how can I play with people who CAN? Where do I go to learn how to do that?

No, other people are trying the same thing. Other players in your elo will be trying the get out too. Simply put, the matter is who can carry more. If you manage to carry more than the majority of other people, you can get out. I was playing on my smurf, which was miraculously placed bronze 4 after ending silver 1 last season, and I managed to climbed out and made it to gold.

The real answer is you're not gonna have four feeders every game just by the law of large numbers, and that eventually you'll get good teams in bronze/silver. The biggest issue down there is lack of knowledge (for all parties, even you probably). Some people are still bad in high elo, but the knowledge disparity is smaller so they do less dumb things (but believe me people still do dumb things every elo). You can do really well in lane and do crazy roams and get lanes fed, but if you don't know when to group, how to take obj, or how to teamfight late, you're more prone to throwing the game (which happens ALL THE TIME in low elo).

A lot of winning low elo solo q is just having patience and playing intelligently... It's like zombies: you're smarter than them, just be patient.

I know how to do all that. When I have as much damage as the rest of my team put together. WTF am I supposed to do?

A common misconception people have in low elo for some reason is that they all feel the need to group mid and shove mid/late... This could be a good idea potentially based on your team comp, but a lot of times people do it regardless of how the game is going, what their team is, what obj are open/already taken, etc. If you are that fed and have that much more damage than your team, use it to your advantage!

By that I mean take advantage of 1v1 opportunities, try to split push, put a deep ward in their jungle and pick off the dumb straggler that goes wandering in, bait them into doing drag/baron and then kill them, etc. There are a lot of avenues to win a game that people don't use in lower elo and it can cause you to lose even if you "carry" in lane. If you're 20/0 and your team is doing bad, you have all the gold and its up to you to win the game (ofc you cant win every game, sometimes you just lose but overall you will win more often)

Actually, it's more like 60-70% of all ranked players are below Gold 5, not simply half. And yes, it's diluted.

The thing about ranked solo-queue is that it's simply not based on solo skill in the slightest. It's the same reason your team can win or lose a 4v5 if someone on your team DC's. It's more based on the skill of the other 4 people in the game than you. You can't force them to group or listen to literally any of their calls or build properly. More often than not, if you try to tell someone they're doing some thing wrong, it ends up making it a negative experience and they'll start feeding or AFK because you're mean and then THEY report YOU and you get banned/restricted because we all know Riot doesn't review reports, they just add up the number of times you've been reported and punish you.

And you can see how quickly wanting to help someone win turns into a bad time for you. And it really doesn't matter how you phrase it, they'll get pissy about it.

I mean, MMR is 100% flawed in the first place. You have a baseline, your first game is all luck. If you get shit people, your MMR starts off in the negative. You get great people, it goes positive. Once it goes either way, the system attempts to keep it going that way. If you lose, you get worse (harder to carry) people in your games. But if you win, you go against more difficult opponents every time. And the rewards aren't nearly as severe are the losses. You can lose 3-5 games and drop a division. However, you MUST play a series to rank up regardless of prior performance (barring 30 game win-streaks I think). And your series games are always harder than your current division as part of a test. However, to drop in rank there are no special circumstances. You lose, you fall.
