Varus Passive Question

Varus: I'm hoping this guy gets reworked at some point, but for the time being I'm trying to master him as much as one can when he's tier 3 at best.

I have some questions about his passive.

  1. How muhc does this factor into your play style?
  2. Is it me or does his passive screw you with a Support that takes CS? (item 3097)
  3. I focus AS earlier on him more so than other ADC's because of his passive, is the logic right on that one?
  4. This seems like the most counter-intuitive passive (maybe Zyra) for the class. It seems like it's build for farming in a vacuum, no?

Feels like you're focusing solely on the passive AS for CS, and ignoring that he gets double the bonus for twice the duration if he gets a takedown on an enemy champion. 40% bonus AS for free is a huge deal.

And I'd disagree that missing out on his passive for one CS every other wave or so when his support uses Targon's is really screwing him over at all.

Killing a champ, though, seems to be a half-hearted situation. assuming the remaining enemy is:

A. not running away B. Not on top of you smashing your face

Then maybe you have the advantage, but it seems highly situational to me. Not to mention that in team fights, they know to go for him. At least one of the 5 does. He's immobile, and leaving him alive makes him a howitzer. Personally, I feel like I need it to be reworked, but I also am trying to play the hand I'm dealt.

The thing to keep in mind about Varus' passive is that he is a Marksmen/Mage and to be honest I might even say he is more of a caster than a carry... And that is why his passive is the way it is; it reinforces his caster tendencies. It is actually a pretty effective laning tool for farming and pushing, yes, but also for poking and skirmishing. Essentially your trading cooldown/length limited on demand AS boost for potentially constant but restricted smaller AS boost when you compare him to a more traditional adc. It's good for sneaking in auto's on the enemy in lane and getting a couple stacks of blight on them to proc with your E before you disengage; skirmishing (not all in-ing XD).

  1. Good bullying tool early when used right.

  2. Ehh... I've never had too much trouble with any of that.

  3. I don't know... sounds like preference...

  4. Maybe it's counter-intuitive? I mean the idea is to have a small but frequent AS boost early that transitions into getting a kill with caster-y-ness and then following up with marksman AA-y-ness...
