Game is too focused on who wins the early game

Scaling champions are falling out of popularity. Jungle is all about pre - 6 ganks. Race for FTG before 8 minutes. Super snowballing games. Win 2+ lanes = win game due to massive gold advantages. take all outer towers before the opponent gets 1 = a likely win. Kill bot tower ( then kill mid or top tower, then get last all in one rotation). Snowballing over dragon control. Assassins/stealthed/divers dominate. Massive damage creep. 35 to 7 game scores.

Seriously, can we just have games where until the mid game, their outcome cannot be decided (basically pre 20 minutes should have no side with almost an impossible to overcome lead over the other team unless their opponents are intentionally feeding them)?

Not true, it's about who picks the most broken champions. A 0/2 Wukong with double Lethality is still gonna oneshot and will heavily outscale.

but as far as your thought that its to focused on early game... well there is alot of different champs ...hmmm 134 i last counted... and numerous combinations of team comps and strategies to be used to play the game...

if you wanna play a late game scaling champ... then play passive and safe early... draw it out... and as long as you dont make huge mistakes you should be able to out scale and win the game past mid game

but if you wanna play early game power champs and try to snowball and push a lead then you cant let the game go past 25mins cuz the team with the higher scaling champs will take over...

there is a pro an con to everything in the game.

its not checkers its a game of chess

The thing is you cant plan to play to the late game. The opponent will always force you to play the early game or they will just end up shitting on you for playing passively.

no not really

Says who? There are plenty of late-game scaling champions who are doing just fine at the moment - Anivia, Kogmaw, Malphite, Amumu, Lux, Ori, Jinx, etc.

The problem is when people play late-game scaling champions while not understanding how to play lategame champions in lane. Its similar to how earlygame champions fall off as the game go on, but have a finesse to teamfighting or putting pressure on the map the later the game goes - a pick like Pantheon might fall off lategame, but the point-and-click stun or the zoning ult can be the deciding factor in a lategame teamfight.

Similarly, lategame champions get stronger as the game go on but dont have useless earlygames. You dont play completely passively in lane just because you have a lategame scaling champ. You still need to trade damage, you still need to CS, you still need to dodge skillshots, you still need to land yours. You cant be immobile in lane while waveclearing and refuse to roam just because youre playing Anivia into Zed - harass with your autos early, at least attempt to dodge his Q, try to use your passive aggressively to trade damage, take exhaust to survive all-ins, and dont blow all your spells waveclearing if you can get some damage on your enemy instead (in other words, learn to farm with autos instead of spells). You lose trades, but you arent at risk of getting dived by a Zed with 100% health when youre sitting at 20% because you were playing too passively.

The game isn't perfect right now, too much is decided too early. But I don't miss when the game was a 20 minute farm fest, decided by whoever wins one late game teamfight.

You say that like the late game teamfight was a coin flip. The team that performed better in the early to mid game would have a huge advantage in that teamfight. Right now it doesn't matter if you suck at teamfighting, one team will be too far ahead for teamfight misplays to matter at all.

The biggest problem is that early game junglers are incredibly OP/broken right now. Even a poor Lee Sin is 3/0 at 5 minutes now.

Well they ARE nerfing FTG

Why not take these champions for the mid or late game they are good turnarounds for me.

Alistar Annie Volibear Taric Maokai I'm no pro but if my team falls behind i tend to have a good chance of having my team make a comeback if i play these champs.

You can use other items like Locket for the tanks even if your not support its still good.

I mention annie dispite her not being a tank because like seriously annie is so freaking easy to just screw over the enemy team.

there are times that fed enemies get too over confident and think they can snowball every engage then they make a fatal mistake where they get blown up by a feeding annie who was 0/4 but then goes 3/4 then later a 7/4.

I've seen so many people on my team or enemy team who just make mistakes late game then they throw the match.

Ikr I hate when the other team completely outplays my team early game and we lose because of it. I really wish them playing better than us didn't matter, god why does riot not know how to balance their game >:((?

I would argue that people are too focused on only winning the early game. If they get behind at all they tilt and want mid opened because they think lane phase is the only phase in the game now.

  • At least in the diamond level games I have been in lately.

No, it's like this in Bronze, too.

The problem is people in this game don't have long-term thinking. The amount of time I spend explaining that super minions win games, not your garbage KDA, I could really have my PhD by now.

Super Minions matter more than your IRL children.

It's become about the early game mainly because probably.... I'd say about 70% of the player base does not know how to stall out a game, or simply gets tilted and gives up.

I've seen it plenty lately, where one bad play and suddenly two of your team are like 'gg we lost, we didn't get that tower at 9 mins and two people died" or "gg they got darius/rengar/camille/other supposedly op champ"_ during champ select!_

I've been called more things than usual lately for not surrendering at 20 in a ranked game simply because it's ranked. As Gordon Ramsay says, "Fight back, get back into it, COME ON! (usually followed by a 'fuck me'.)"

Where i will agree is that towers need to hit harder. I'm fine with their current paper defenses so long as they pack a punch. Champions under level six that have no tank items at all should not be able to take four tower shots in a row. Period. That in and of itself would reduce the clownfiesta supergank towerdive bits and make those plays more risky.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

'gg we lost, we didn't get that tower at 9 mins and two people died"

If they are smart then that is first turret gold + two kills onto one champion + denied access to half the jungle after you lose vision control over that quadrant + lost farm and exp on one of your carries = translates into about a 4-5k gold difference. At 9 minutes against competent teams that is gg.

Odd. The group I was with won two games last night after being severely down like that early. We stalled out the game, got back in it by not being stupid, and won. Comebacks can happen, just the team has to pull together to get it done.

One of my friends was watching the first one, he stopped at 18 mins after our toplaner fed the enemy Camille her 7th kill. At one point we were down by 9500 gold, and we were still down 3k at the end of the game. But we still won.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

I used to have comebacks too... back in season 5.

The damage is too high which leads us back to the issue of snowballing champs and diving under turrets and etc. I hope the reduction to damage creep on PBE sorts this out or atleast makes the games less impactful early game.

yup yup.

just had enemy team open mid at like 12 minutes

but at the same time im having tremendous success with tryndamere in the jungle

I don't see it this way. I main Lulu and usually duo with a Vayne or Tristana. After we get in champ select, we talk about making a late-game scaling team (Nasus, Yi, Jax, Yasuo, Gangplank, so on so forth). If most of us are late game champs then all we do is farm and play back until we do reach late game and that's it. My games on average last like 35-40 minutes.

I disagree. Snowballing in lane isn't that easy. Snowballing as a team tho is and should be. If your whole team stomped it should be a short game. The game is too team focused overall I guess. I've won so many games when IBG was cancer last season from just trying to make my team group 15-20 min and just skirmishing/pushing like mad.

I would say we are close to good balance. Just some minor tweaks to FBT (even tho I love it, its a bit too much gold if you get it solo).

aqours fanboy1 votes

Lul, so the team that wins all lanes early and puts pressure on early with objectives and dragons shouldn't win.

Huehuehue.

Malignis1 votes

I'm pretty sure the current PBE changes are aimed at this exact problem, they are removing a lot of passive damage from masteries as well as altering some items and reducing first tower gold. Sit tight, and hopefully after the next patch is out things will not be quite so snowbally.

I agree and it's one of the big reasons I've started making the switch to dota2.
