After having played Yorick only 3 times.
I can already say he's pretty terrible tbh. His Minons die extremely easy; They do a lot of damage but are almost 100% useless if you don't land your E. Added onto the fact that it takes like 20 seconds to get them up, having to have to waste several Q's on minons for last hits. Using up mana and making you vulnerable for trades. Then if you want to go in, you have to land your E, which is really hard to hit, if you by some miracle land it. Your 90% of the time not in range to follow up on your minons because your W has to short of Range.
The only times you have good trades are when your ult is up, since you can continually spawn your little minons , letting you do constant dps, instead of having random spurts of damage, that can never finish off your opponent. Now Yorick would be a GREAT split pusher, that could be his niche in the game, Buuuuuut he has no escape, is slow, relatively squishy and easy to catch out. Also being bad a trading.
My suggestion for buffs would be to Lower his CDS on Q and R, increase the range on W a bit, and give his Minons more healthy early on. His problems are simply he can never finish what he's trying to do, anyone he trys to kill, he has to commit everything, ult, flash, cds , etc. But even then he's easy to run away from since he doesn't do enough damage alone to burst you down before you simply slow him and walk away.
Maybe I'm just playing him wrong, (I tried different builds in all games, doing terrible in each one, partly because of reallllly bad mistakes, but most them shouldn't have been as bad with any other champion)
But he really does look like he could use some help. At least even a bit.
