Veigar Mains: Come Scheme With Me! The Rift Shall Be Ours! BWAHAHAHA.

We ARE evil. Stop laughing!

I think it's time for all us Veigar players to have a thread where we scheme together and figure out how we're going to obliterate all these fancy high-mobility Champions, and also Teemo.

So share your tips and tricks for Veigar dominance here.

I'm not great with Veigar, but I'll start this off with a few thoughts and observations, if only to provide something for people to critique and get the conversation going.

Movespeed
Movespeed is very strong on Veigar. Why? Because if Veigar catches the enemy, your whole team does. (Secondarily: because he has no dash or other mobility mechanism, and he needs to mind his positioning.) I run MS runes and masteries for this reason.

DFG Rush
This might sound utterly obvious, but given his mana hunger, I often find I lose games because I give into the temptation to build lots of mp5 early. This is a mistake. Sorc shoes and DFG, always. No matter what. Beg jungler for Blue if need be. (Thank them for giving it to you, but let them know that, if the tables were turned, you should show no mercy.)

Lulu
Lulu? What? No! Who cares about Lulu? N-not me! Stupid Lulu. GO AWAY.

Teleport
I'm a believer in running Teleport on Veigar, for ganking bot lane by teleporting to a brush-ward. Veigar's stun is incredible: it buys your ADC and Support several seconds of free catch-up and autoattacks.

Megaburst vs. Team Play
The first trick we all learn with Veigar is the 100-0 wtfburst. It's a good trick. However, it's just not enough. These days, plenty of mages can 100-0 targets. Good Veigar play must center around his stun. Rather than always using his stun to lock down a target for a focused burst, consider using stun to lock down multiple enemy Champions for your team as part of the initiation. (Related: dropping a 1.0 AP meteor on multiple enemy Champions is a HUGE gain for your team.) If you're fed enough, and the target is low enough on MR, you should be able to kill them with DFG+Q+R alone.

Stunless Meteors
If I could learn to hit these more, I'd be much better at Veigar. The damages are palpable.

Target Selection: MR > AP
You know how people are terrified of airplane crashes, rather than car accidents, because of disproportionate media coverage of the former? It's like that with Veigar's ult. Everyone knows that it scales on the target's AP, because that's such a weird mechanic. It's not insignificant, but it's not as important as it is novel and eye-catching. Instead, when I'm stalking prey again, I look mostly at the target's MR. Anyone with 30 MR is asking to be exploded.

Q: Harass vs. Farm
It's often said that (in the early game) a good Veigar uses Q to harass, while a noob Veigar uses Q to farm. I think it's a bit more subtle than that. Veigar is so weak in lane, and so vulnerable to getting bullied/multikilled, that I agree it's important to Q your lane opponent in the face periodically. (This can also help set up early kills if your jungler comes by.) On the other hand, every Q effectively doubles the gold value of a minion. If you use Q to last-hit 10-15 minions, that's getting close to the value of a kill in bonus gold. (And that's bonus gold that's automatically converted into AP that doesn't consume inventory space, too.)

Support Veigar
I don't think he's a great Support. However, if you're a Veigar main, you might end up playing better as Veigar Support than as Leona or whatever. His stun can shut down aggression and lock in gank-kills. He's also got some nice poke, and Frostfang is still OP. Another bonus: if the game goes on long enough, Support Veigar becomes Regular Veigar.

Tankiness
I build glass cannon these days, but I recall that (a long time ago) a player who's much better at LoL than I am argued that Veigar should build somewhat tanky. I'm not sure if that was ever true, or if it's still true, but it's something to think about. The argument: if he live a little longer in teamfights, he can get off two or three stuns instead of just one. The counter-argument: these days, there are so many wtfburst assassins that if Veigar gets caught, all the RoAs in the world won't save him.

learn how to play viegar maybe

The way I play veigar (Im B3, so consider at your own risk)

Levels: q,e,q,w,q,r,q.....(focus e before w, after you max q)

I take tele/flash. Tele allows you to stay in lane, and power farm, and flash is....well, flash. I run Magic Pen Marks, Armor Seals, flat mana glyphs, and generally ap quints, though there is a strong argument for magic pen here. Masteries are 21/0/9, taking mana and biscuits in utility.

start: dorans and 2.

Lane style: Q farm and last hit. If you are very vigilant on last hitting ONLY and freezing the lane, You can keep mana up. Ignore the opponent (except to dodge and avoid) for the first 5 levels. If they look like they need a Q from time to time, fine - but that's not your job. There is no shame in buying a 2nd or even a 3rd (though usually, you don't need it) dorans ring. they have acceptable stats, and (since you dont need mana regen as much once laning phase is over) you want to sell what ever you get for mana early anyway. Other than that? RUSH THAT DFG.

At 6: begin watching for a chance to pop your opponent, and harras them when you can. be sure to keep your mana up to pop all, so last hitting for rings is key here. IfI they are play really safe, keep q farming. Obviously, Kill them every chance you get, and bully them out of lane, then go back to farming. However - play safe, and dont push - you will just attract attention to yourself. Q farming is most important here, if you want a really solid late game.

Once you have DFG, You should just win lane. With that, and a ring or two with some sorc shoes, it doesnt even need to be an ap champ - they just die.

So get kills, farm lane, push when safe, build lots of AP.

mid to late game, your job is to ALWAYS be able to one shot a champ with your combo. On request, you are now an assassin.Your targets are the ad and ap carries, though as the situation calls for, the jungler or even a tank ould be the proper play (though usually not)

Final build is normally something like Deathcap, Hourglass, DFG, VoidStaff, Option, Sorc Shoes. (expensive as hell, I know) Finally, with the arcane blade mastery can allow you to really push late in the game. However, in more than one game (please dont judge me here, I know of lot of you might) - if your team just cant push, you can build a nashors tooth (that 15% AP does hit turrets) - the only time I condone this is if you have a dc'd adc or something.

DISCLAIMER: As I said, I'm Bronze 3. I have been told (and believe) I am better than that, but - take my advice only if you agree with it. If a higher Elo player would like to come and tell me where I am wrong, or give advice, I welcome the help. Also, I know many of you will suggest Athenas / tear. Yes, you can play veigar that way, but it can be a very low damage start, and it is difficult to do anything but q farm and harass. Not that is necessarily wrong, but it is a different playstyle, and the above has consistently done better, at least for me.
