Why Janna and Yasuo's tornados are so hard to dodge.

I often see a lot of people get hit by this, but if you would replace it with Ahri Q or literally any other skillshot in the game they would've 100% dodged it, me included.

I think it's because both tornado's models are vertical, giving the illusion that the hitbox is in a different spot than it actually is. The top of the tornado covers part of the real hitbox making the hitbox look like it's in a completely different spot. 100% it's because** it's hard to tell what's on the horizontal plane, and what's on the vertical plane. **

This circle can be mistaken for the hitbox, and then you can get baited to dodge into the actual hitbox or run father than you need to.

This circle is probably what most people see when they're trying to dodge Yasuo's tornado, but fail because it's not actually it's hitbox._ (It's even harder to judge the hitbox when the tornado isn't being thrown parallel to the top of the screen)_

So how would I fix this? By putting a glowy circle around the hitbox itself. Anivia has one on her ult (well not anymore because VU) but something similar would help A LOT

Here's another thread I found that also explains this: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Uu2eAaUF-put-a-ground-indicator-behind-yasuos-tornado

EDIT: This isn't an issue about how wide or narrow the skillshot is, it's just that I can't tell what I'm supposed to be moving away from. Even broken skillshots like Lux/Blitz Q still have the "center" of the skillshot you're running away from. Tornados, being vertical, don't have a "center".

I dont think I've ever had an issue with Janna's Tornado, but Yasuo's Tornado tends to cheat (in the sense that hitbox lies to you) sometimes.

######Also, the title made me believe that this was a setup for a joke and I'm kinda sad now.

Agree

You clearly haven't seen Lux Q then. That thing hits you almost 150 units away from either side....I'm not kidding.

Its not a tornado specific problem look at this ashe arrow, I think someone in a previous thread on hooks explained it in the best way i can think of. What he said was along the lines of that the game functions/was designed in a 2D space and the perspective we are looking at only makes it appear 3D. This explains why like you said depending on the way the tornado is directed can make it easier or harder to tell its hitbox.(this also applies to the champs hitbox and why hooks look bullshit when they hit but they visibly shouldn't) https://youtu.be/3n670-jVHMI?t=26

Also something about river transitioning to higher ground also complicates it more.

In addition to every thing you correctly stated, High Noon yasuo has a semi transparent tornado that is difficult to interpret in a team fight.

They are also semi-transparent and the hitbox does not have a VFX indicator aside from the tornado itself, meaning the visual perceived hitbox is manipulated with as the tornado's texture swirls on the floor of the map.

In simpler words: They're too visually deceptive. They need a solid indicator.

All skillshots are sometimes visually inaccurate. That's why they are hard to dodge. Janna and Yasuo are no different. Riot needs to fix the spaghetti coding that causes this.

this reminds me of the old days where locked camera was a problem on red side... and brings me back to my old solution. turn the entire map so its in 180°. lets have blue base at the left side, then midlanes goes ---------------- STRAIGHT to the right side where red base is. would fix this weird angle point of view shit.

Yeah hitboxes are pretty wonky overall, but I've definitely been hit by and dodged 'nados that I really shouldn't have.

Gilgayu12/4/2018, 1:17:24 AM1 votes

Hit box is a weird thing with a lot of champs. Sion's q hit box is much bigger than it seems, and a lot of players don't know that.

I only find Yasuo's tornado hard to dodge when he dashes around a lot, beside that I think the animation is pretty obvious.

To be honest I miss 99% of my tornadoes anyway so this wouldn't apply to me XD

imfoolish12/4/2018, 3:07:20 AM1 votes

because the pen is too hard to trace and so ppl for get to look and they cant seeeeeeeeee

Chiƒuyu12/4/2018, 3:10:10 AM1 votes

I think this is a cool concept. The angle that is seen doesn’t really show a center.

PepijndM12/4/2018, 7:57:38 AM1 votes

I often even miss Yasuo Q (when I accidentally play him, ARAM etc) since the visual indicator seems to be 'high' which I somehow interpret as 'to the north'. So I end up visually stabbing people with the Q, but technically missing them.

They're probably "hard to dodge" because they're wide and y'all playing on high ping

Not hard at all at 28ms
