Why Understanding the meta is important
So, I have recently become active on the forums and this is the most common complaint i hear from my fellow low elo players. (yes gold is low elo, get over yourself golds)
The complaint is the following "I don wanna have to play broken champs to win so I can auto win lane" This is a completely fine statement, you find a champion broken and unfair, so you want to be "honorable" and win your way. Fine that is completely fine, but here is where that personality backfires horribly in certain people. The same people who say this, don't just refuse to play meta, they straight out refuse to study it. These players assume meta is brainless, takes no skill, and won't even take a single moment out of their day to understand how it works. You just can't do that if you want to climb in ranked, or hell even if you just want to play casually. Not everyone is like you, some people will always play meta, and because of this you need to do the smart thing and educate yourself. Take a moment to ask yourself "why is this champion good?" hell go deeper "what are this champions cooldowns? how exactly do his skills works? What are weakness this champion has? How can I abuse those weakness?" I respect anyone who decides to not play meta, you don't have to, but before you go and complain on a public forum like a dumb ignorant, actually take a moment to think about the meta itself to understand how it works. For example for the longest time people saw a personal favorite champion of mine, Shyvana as a very bad champion, however i was able to maintain a stable amount of wins in silver for the longest time with her, simply because I understood the meta to a fair enough degree. I was not some god tier diamond player with her, but I allowed myself to understand what I was facing, how it worked, and what strengths and weakness I can abuse with both my champion and their champions.
Just remember, ignorance is your worse enemy, knowledge is power.
Just some thoughts I wanted to share with everyone.
Happy elo climbing.
