As a low ELO player, the new season terrifies me.

Low ELO already has a massive issue with people copying pros and not knowing why. Think Nasus E max build Azir Seeing his LCS play Vayne EDIT Sion support MissFortune support etc. Now imagine that but with mages being played bot lane. If riot continues to support bot lane mages, then LCS will adapt. LCS(or even just diamond+) players have specific reasons and strategies to doing things. When people copy them in low elo the chances are that they don't understand the fundamental reasons for that build. E.G. Certain players would E on Nasus for the lane pressure and waveclear power, but most people who would copy the build don't see the gameplay strategy. What they do see is "Master 1 player-80% winrate on nasus. Skill max order E W Q", so they try it out and fail because they don't adjust their playstyle and end up losing.

If mages shift to bot lane then this issue will be seen constantly. for a while, at the least. EDIT: Not that the complaints of low elo people really matter. We are low elo after all.

you mean like support MissFortune or Sion? yeah. people tend to copy things without understanding them, then end up doing horribly.

I have honestly been playing Sion support for a while now. I picked it up when it was popular in Korea. Then again I had already played him for a while to know his kit and adapt my play style to every game. I do agree, low elo, especially bronze tend to do whatever is popular or whatever they see in their favorite youtuber's/streamer's game. This is especially a problem in ranked. I got a no damage Tryndamere the other game. If our Rengar wasn't fed we would've lost that game no doubt. I think Riot has to do some balancing.
