Personally I'm excited for a hard reset in solo/duo rating

Eyesack··51 votes·3,877 views

I honestly dont understand the complaints. The season start is going to be a blast. For a few weeks, people on my team will literally be walking minions worth 300g with no concept of lane control, map awareness, or the value of objectives. It will probably be about the same for the opposing team however, and this will make ranked very exciting at least until the queue sorts itself out. In the end the players who are better at winning games will be high rated and the rest will be stuck in 'elo hell'.

You might then think 'Well eyesack if everyone will end up back where they were last season then why even bother with the hard reset?' Simple: we are bringing back the meaning to your rank. Dynamic boost is over. Diamond 5 will still be a cesspool but there will be less actually bronze players in it.

Not that there's even a very noticeable difference between diamond 5 and bronze players anyway, but you get my point. Solo/duo ranking was deleted last season. It must be reborn anew.

Just because a few people got boosted doesn't mean that a hard reset should occur.

Besides, the ones that got boosted will almost certainly just buy boosts regardless, it would just hurt those who actually worked for their rank.

Its honestly not going to hurt anyone. Ranked will be a little wonky for a couple weeks at most. Things will sort out as normal. Sure people will boost im not saying boosting is over but dynamic boost which is more common on a whole new level than before is going for good.

I cant tell you how many of my friends are plat because i basically hard carried them there. Well i could its about 5 or 6 of my friends atleast now multiply that by the amount of people in high diamond with friends and thats a lot of dynamic boosted players.

You really want Bronze-Gold players being matched against Challenger and Diamond players? Ranked would be extremely unfair for those lower rated players because they're going to get matched against players with vastly better mechanics, skill levels and overall capabilities.

Especially stuff like my Mordekaiser would become unstoppable because nobody at those ranks can deal with a well played Morde. Imagine TF, Sol and Lee mains down there.

I said personally dude. Yes not everyone will enjoy it but i like my games as hectic as possible. You would not believe how stale the game is when i play. People refuse to fight and die. Anytime i shove a lane it is met by some champion just instantly clearing the wave. Then both teams get lazy, do the baron dance and one team comes out on top. After that the game is basically over. Some throws might happen or some godlike play but most likely the game is just decided at that point.

I'm excited for a solid 2 weeks of FUN league of legends. The added benefit of dynamic boost not lingering in the mmr of the players that got it is honestly just icing on the cake.

Want fun league? Play normals.

I want my ranked games to be professional and a display of one's skill, not an over glorified clown fiesta.

Then why do you bother playing if everything's the same to you?

Thank you! 100% agree with this. I worked hard to reach my Gold 3 this season and I do not want to have to start back at low Silver and work my way back up at the beginning of next season. I may have dynamic preference but it was mostly duo with a friend also in Gold who played jung/mid with me. I do not want to be punished b/c some fools got boosted by friends much higher than them on smurf accounts.

Well you are going to have to, because right now the ranked system is forcing impossible to win games for so many people who are giving each game their all. I feel like you people are blind to this. I havent had a game where a lane wins till i duo'd with my friend who never loses lane. The queue system is literally fucked, and always has been since the dynamic introduction. If i go 18-6-23 on sejuani, i shouldnt lose the game, but yet in a game where i have 100% KP and everyone else is feeding out their ass, refusing to group, and just overall being negative, i cant win that game. I dont want those people in my games, they are boosted to where they are by the queue system, and i want a full reset so everyone is where they belong.

No I don't if Riot doesn't force the reset I should stay in my same relative position. I actually liked playing with friends this year in DQ and none of my friends were anywhere close to gold or above. We all started silver and bronze and worked our way up to gold. I was usually in groups of 2-3. I don't consider that boosted. After reaching G5 the other guys decided to take a break and I've climbed the next 2 divisions solo.

I've had plenty of games as you describe where I am winning the hell out of my lane and applying that power to the rest of the map but my team mates troll or refuse to make good decisions and lose. It's frustrating but I don't want to punish myself just b/c other players don't belong there. Eventually they will lose so much they will drop back to their true rank and I will get my competitively even games without shooting myself in the foot by asking for a hard reset.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

Ofc it is boosting. Every game you were three premades or more against solo players you had an unfair advantage and won because of it.

dominusx2 votes

then dont play ranked unless you are master. anyting below master is a fiesta and solely luck based on who has the less retards lmfao

I myself am thinking of taking about 2-3 weeks off from ranked for exactly this reason. Give the sludge some time to settle out, then I can float back up to where I belong without having to deal with all the muck at the bottom.

Dynamic Queue is still gonna be here. It's being renamed Flex Queue, that's the only difference. If it isn't as strong, only then will it be a replacement for the Ranked 5s. It's still here though. Solo/Duo and Flex are the queues. Some people will use both.

notice me Sin pi1 votes

everyone will use both, i think i heard from somewhere that there will be seperate season rewards for each queue

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

IIRC, separate rewards for each queue and an additional reward for hitting Gold+ in both.

Irelia Bot2 votes

Use season 5 ranks instead just to make sure.

Malicious Metal3 votes

And punish people who actually climbed while those who remained static for over a year can just sit on their asses? Sure thing.

Look, this season might have been plagued by DynamicQ but the next one's going to be fixing some of these issues, what's one frigging season? Does it devalue your own achievement just because people got there by paying some hefty sums of money?

Shadow Hazard1 votes

People don't like that the boosting occurred from 3+ premade comm groups going in and stomping enemies with coordination, while the higher elo's started to enforce stricter grouping rules the damage was already done and it was too late. If you are skilled enough solo to climb before this should mean very little to you, if you climbed thanks to DQ tough luck go to flex q.

Even more. Diamond 5 this season in EUW has been 1,9-2% of top. Last season it used to be 1% of top. Twice the number of players in dia 5 than last season. That shows you how many boosted harambes actually sit there.

Safety nets of 5th division are too generous. They should remove them, along with promos.

You get promoted to next div when you reach 100 pts in the last one, points over cap will carry on to next division. If you lose in this next division, points you got from the last one will act as "shield" against demotion. In the second you drop blow 0, you also drop your division.

So if your MMR = average MMR of your division you get +20 per win, -20 per lose. If is your MMR above average MMR of your division, you get +30 per win, +10 per lose.

So if you are 90pt gold 5, with standard MMR you will be 10pt gold 4 if you win. If you lose afterwards, you will be back where you started But if is your MMR high enough (you're winning much more games than losing) you will get to gold 4 with 20 pts and lose only 10 pts when you lose, meaning you can lose 2 times in row and you won't drop.

Diamond 4 player sees no difference between himself and a bronze player, interesting.

Still prefer soloq to be solo only, no duos. Duos offer same problem DQ has IMO.

GayFluffyUnicorn3 votes

Even worse. Next season will keep role selection which ensures jungler+solo laner comps to camp you to death. Again vision changes. Or premade bot will get it this time 100%. If we don't get a full solo Q by next season i'm done with this game. Its not fun anymore being unable to climb because you have to carry a silver team against a diamond team.

I am diamond 4 and there's Ladder Rank 11,419 (0.5883% of top) and theres this much player lol. boosting is a myth man, anyone that gets boosted gets demoted there's a reason why there alot of people at diamond 5 0 lp, even I have the solo queue emblem. Anyone that boost for their ranking get demoted next season and get stuck at the 5th division or just stop playing rank, waste of money and waste of time. thats why challenger 5v5 and 3v3 and even diamond teams. with a gold or below solo queue are boosted trash

LadyRenly4 votes

If you think you "belong" in X elo....prove it then, by being able to get that elo again after a reset.

I will probably go back to bronze, but i don't care. Besides, isn't the commonly touted phrase "it's not your teammates, if you were good you'd carry"? So who cares if your teammates will be worse?

Kiharon3 votes

I don't understand the "Season 6 rank is meaningless, let's just reset" arguments.

Let's look at the ways rank was meaningless in season 5:

  • Smurfs
  • Paid boosting services
  • Trolls/people that don't care but play ranked instead of normals anyway

Season 6 didn't remove any of these. What ways did it add?

  • Potential to play with up to 4 smurfs instead of just 1 to carry you (if you can find people willing and able to do it)
  • More people screwing around because they thought rank was meaningless but still played ranked instead of normals

I can't say how common either of those were, but I suspect neither were as large an impact as people think. I would be interested to see some statistics around the distribution of 3+ man queues (how many people played what percentage of their games that way, how it did or did not affect rank, etc.), but only Riot can provide those and I don't have any basis to make good guesses on what those numbers would actually be.

The addition of role selection normalized the field somewhat in terms of how much you had to be good at, with a slight relative negative effect on those that mained unpopular roles (support) in season 5.

All in all, rank season 6 seems just as relevant overall as rank in season 5.

In this post, BS existing before justifies adding more BS to the mix.

Kiharon1 votes

An incorrect summation, but I can kind of see how you got there. I actually was saying that I think season 6 was not noticably "BS increasing" compared to existing BS from season 5.

I also think that whatever BS may have added will be removed for those that play only solo/duo queue in season 7 without the need for the "nuclear option" of a hard reset. While the ladder would eventually shake out, I doubt it will shake out faster than it would with a standard soft reset. Even if it did, I strongly believe it would not be worth the player pain due to matchmaking disasters that would arise from erasing all history from the system.

And I disagree. This one change is far worse and not comparable to people doing things via illicit means as opposed to in system means Riot allowed to occur themselves, and our inability to make this distinction is worrisome to me.

Forbidden Zed3 votes

Riot will never implement hard reset, it will be unfair to lower elo, means they can't play rank for a month or so. what i do want is able to see everyones borders instead of ur own team

CerealBoxOfDoom3 votes

why does this matter lol? If you can't play ranked for a week then you don't belong anyways.

If you can't compete then you can't play in competitive! OH THE HORROR

HazyCloud73 votes

Picture this: Challenger, master, diamond and plat, gold players all reset down to Silver 4. What's going to happen? The players that actually have low silver skill level will get stomped every game.

That's what he's getting at. I don't particularly think its too big of a deal but it's something to be aware of.

CerealBoxOfDoom3 votes

no, that's not how it works.

If challenger master, diamond, and plat all go down to silver 4 then people who used to play at silver 4 level are no longer silver 4

What you think you deserve is irrelevant, either compete or get the fuck out. There's no reason to not do a hard reset just because master level players will be in silver 4, that just means you have more opportunities to show what you're made of. You should get bonus LP for winning against people who were diamond or above in any other season in fact.

As long as the match is fair in the literal sense it should be fine.

If the average silver 4 was master tier in s6 then the problem isn't the hard reset it s your system as a whole, that's not a problem caused by hard resets. At best that is a problem REVEALED by hard resets that isn't going away just by sweeping it under a rug

Bârd4 votes

That's exactly how it works...

If everybody gets hard reset, and everybody has their MMR set to low silver, than everbody (Bronze through Challenger) starts at that level. This means that, for several months, matchmaking is not only horrible, but you can't just "wait it out"; you have to play to escape it.

Matches in this scenario can NEVER be guaranteed to be fair. That's WHY Riot never does a full reset. If everybody has their MMR reset, (in the eyes of the matchmaking system) a team of ex-diamonds versus a team of ex-bronzies is a "fair game".

A hard reset would do nothing but ruin matchmaking for a long time, flood diamond+ with nothing but people who main "carry" roles for months, and shaft any players who got a high rating by playing things like Tanks or Supports.

Just because a hand full of people got a rank they don't deserve doesn't mean that EVERYBODY should be punished.

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

if one single person gets a rank they "don't deserve" then everyone has a different rank than what they should sooner or later. You can't just separate people out like that.

if last years gold is now bronze then get good

"Oh man, a Vayne adc? Good thing I picked Cait!"

Baby Ghoul3 votes

I hope that doesn't happen.

Not because it would be chaotic to climb, but because it would be so toxic. There are enough plat and diamond smurfs in silver and gold adding to the already toxic environment. Why make it worse?

I can see how you could view that as exciting as someone who has played league for years facing low experience players, but think about who will be on your team as well. Those same "walking minions" are going to be your teammates. I don't know if people who talk like you do would be emotionally ready for that. It sounds exciting in theory, but in practice it is a mess and frustrating. Also with matchmaking, teams would be way more uneven than they already are.

Riot ain't shy about handing out bans and chat restrictions either.

QaznGod3 votes

I just HAAAAAAAAAAATE when I see people talk about how low diamond is basically bronze and stuff like that. I understand that the lower divisions of any Elo are the bottom of the barrel but they obviously are better than bronze level kids. Besides boosting, you can't get to diamond with 0 game knowledge or awareness. They obviously have skills bronzies don't

Eedat2 votes

I kinda worked my ass off to get to gold and I'm currently sitting on a gold 2ish MMR as a solo-only player. Going to be pissed as shit if my MMR gets reset to silver 5. Going to be absolutely furious when I see diamond and masters borders in my games. I'm not going anywhere near ranked for the first half of the season because it's going to be absolute garbage clown fiestas every single game

At the very least Solo/Duo MMR should NOT reset for people with solo queue badges at the end of the year

Splashworks2 votes

I've already seen a topic like this get a ton of upvotes and I don't understand why.

A minority getting boosted doesn't mean the majority should be punished for it. Just because someone is D5 doesn't mean it wasn't hard af to get D5, you guys think they can just magically travel back to there from bronze in like a week. No.

Also bronze and diamonds shouldn't have to face each other smh.

Verdade2 votes

Actually, the old ELO system was best by far. Just because there weren't any stupid safety nets, so bad players got punished regardless of where they are placed. Good players weren't punished by unlucky promo loses.

Degrade everyone by 2 division levels. Plat -> Gold, Diam -> Silver -> Gold to Bronze 1, Silver Bronze 3, rest Bronze 5.
