This is her sustain lv 1 to 6: every auto attack (cd starts at 8s lv1, and goes to 5 seconds at lv5) she heals. The heal is equal to 5 - 60 (based on level) (+ 60% bonus AD) (+ 45% AP) health.

You can expect between 10 and 20hp heal every auto attack with a cd of 8 to 5 seconds. Now, the reason you can't shut her down early to easy is because she has both this passive and pots and dorans's shield or dark seal. makes pots heal 25% more You can buy 3 pots with it, but its almost like you got 4 i'm quite sure you know how this works.

And their combined regeneration helps her a lot. She also needs to get in melee range of you to do damage. This means that if you are ranged, lv1 is safe vs Akali. But Akali, like every other assassin except Diana, gets her gap closer at lv 2 (some chose to get it at 3). And that's her W.

This allows Akali to take trades more easily, or farm more easily (can't do both at once unless the enemy get super scared). And because her Q is super low CD (like 4 seconds), she has a small advantage when her W is up. Also, going in her W, she drops minion aggro that she got with her auto attack, which again, helps with the trade. She can also Q, wait a bit, W auto Q again and auto again for a lot of burst damage in 1 second before retreating. But usually the enemy will not let you do that as Akali.

She can also time her passive extra damage with the auto attack she does to proc the Q for again, a bunch of damage on the enemy. And that's how Akali can win trades. And after she won a bunch of trades, she wins the early game as the enemy is forced to go back or you can do a surprise flash auto to proc Q + E which will often net kills in the early game.

And that's what gives Akali a lot of power in the early game. After 6 she gets power spikes on both half items of gunblade, on gunblade itself, on boots tier 2 and on mask or zhoinas, depending on the build she went with. She's very strong in the mid game when the enemy has little MR and she does close to true damage and the targets are separated (not grouped) as they farm.

She has a hard time in the late game and team fights because, at the end of the day, she is a squishy melee champion with no defensive tools outside her W which confines her into a small area. Which is why a lot of akalis go for zhonias as their second major item. To make sure they have it for team fights.

Akali can still be stomped early by certain picks such as: (very hard counter match-up) (her R reveals Akali), . Probably more, but those are on the top of my head. But with a lot she either goes even, or ahead if not respected. Trundle for example, if he uses Q on a minion even once, he will lose most of his hp and lose lane vs Akali. If he keeps Q only for Akali, he wins lane o goes even. That's where respect comes into play.

Also for some reason, when I go top Akali, I have a very hard time vs Riven players (those that know how to animation cancel properly) :(

What happens most of the times however is what you said. People thinking they can stomp Akali early because she's a "noob champion" that has a "bad early game", and Akali ends up snowballing looool. And then they give up or lose before Akali enters her very weak phase (team fights and late game).
