How would you balance mobility?

If I tell you how I would balance mobility, you will all downvote m and tell me I dont know how to play and that I dont understand balance. So i wont do that. Instead, why dont you all then try to be constructive and offer your way of balancing mobility in this game of 100% flash summoner spells on every champion period.

I would give immobile champions better defensive capabilities. Assasins should be able to move in out and around teamfights... but they shouldnt be able to one shot immobile champs then lol runaway.

trade-offs

mobility should come with a loss of damage, utility, or waveclear, in my opinion.

Mobility is simply too big of a strength to not require a glaring weakness somewhere else. You could be mobile and have great damage to champions, but you should be able to get shoved into turret by strong waveclear champions. (I think waveclear is something that's passed around too easily, too.)

If you have a lot of mobility and plenty of CC, you shouldn't have damage.

and so on

Try to experiment with the grounded mechanic and remove/severely lower the damage from mobility spells.

Whats the difference between nerfing mobility and buffing immobility? Why would we rather do one or the other, but not both at the same time.

Why is it only acceptable to have champions and spells that apply the grounded debuff? That creates a new class of champions and you just ban those champions out, then you go back to the mobility meta. It basically makes those champions "too big to fail" any time you need to nerf those champions, you are buffing ALL of the mobility champions. Essentially, those champiions will become "all about" their grounded debuff because countering the "all powerful mobility" is "all powerfull".

If you make items that apply the grounded effect, there is nothing stopping mobile champions from using those items (remember we have all of these assassins that build tank).

As for just banning those champions, well we do the same with mobile champions and we have a lot of them. Why couldn't we have a lot of champions with the grounded debuff? What if we reworked Pantheon to give that debuff? Or give a few immobile assassins that ability? Or hell, give it to supports like Sona so it can lead to some better secured kills in bot.

We do both a buffing and a nerfing then we could lead to a wildly unbalanced scale. As much as I think immobile champions should do more damage (example is Karthus) it really boils down to mobile champions doing too much.

Honestly I think this meta is like whenever WoW has a new expansion. Older gear gets wildly outstatted by new gear. Then WoW decided to lower the scaling of stats throughout most of the game (so no need to make items that give 1K strength).

Immobility has become so strong because we don't give an even trade off for it. This is probably due to Riot changing their design philosophy, leaving previous champions in the dust.

I'm not a game designer. I don't know the answers you probably want. I'm just giving my opinion.

thats fine. I think you are right, it means you need to create a lot of champions with grounded abilities.

I just thought that creating a few items with the grounded debuf would be a lot simpler. U could have one ap item. One ad item. One Armor item. One MR item. The mobile champions have to sacrifice to buy them and so they dont. Immobile champions prefer them because they give nicer stats.

No need for 8-9 champions that hardcounter mobile champions. That was my thought. Just my thought.

Thanks for being respectful.

No problem. Items tend to effect game balance more than champions, plus more unique champs means less of seeing the same champion every game.

I try to be respectful when I can. Nothing really gets us anywhere if we argue.

I would limit the dashes, and lower the dash ranges. Most of these absurdly mobile champs can dash and move for what seems like forever, and the steady removal of targeted stuns and CC is giving them invisible power.

I think its ok to have very mobile champions. But I dont think they should have all in 100-0 combos. They are too well suited to hit and run tactics and that gameplay is lacking in league.

If mobile champions did less dmg, then they could become more mobile dont you think?

I'd balance it by ensuring that anyone with a teleport/blink auto lost a duel to every other champion of equal items. Every champion with a dash lost to every champion except those with blinks/teleports. Every champion with a speed up lost to everything except those with blinks, teleports, and dashes. All that is left is the no mobility champs, and they are supreme duelists.

Woook3r1 votes

I was thinking along those lines as well.

I know this is a little old but I am exhausted with Mobility and Hypermobility, and I really like this premise. If you are super mobile you should lose an out right fight and be forced to use your mobility to poke until you can all in for a kill not be able to all in, kill, walk away clean or at worst go life steal on 3 minions to full health.

So can LeBlanc but she always takes flash.

Woook3r3 votes

So your point is that flash isnt 100% mandatory. Its only 99.9% mandatory.

Ok. U win.

Accuracy of information is important. The actual conclusions you reach from the data are more important.

Can't draw good conclusions on inaccurate information.

Woook3r2 votes

Wrong. We dont know exactly how likely it is to die in a car accident due to speeding. Yet we know you shouldnt speed.

Actually, we can estimate that value given statistics.

Woook3r1 votes

yea well i estimated that 100 percent of players always take flash. Looks like I was wrong by only .1% or something.

Oleandervine1 votes

No, not really. The problem is their safety. Even if the damage was lowered, they would still be able to hit and run and escape with ease, where everyone and their mother with skillshot crowd control has to either be absurdly good at timing or skilled at dumb luck.

Woook3r1 votes

If you lack the dmg, then you arent getting as many last hits on champions and you cant snowball as hard. Dmg also gives you safety. It means you can just kill all the threats before they can sustain.

I really don't think that Mobility and Immobility need to be balanced in generalities. there are a lot interectecies that can turn the whole thing into a stats check. (e.x. If you get more defense for your lack of a dash ability, while your mobile counterpart is better at avoiding damage. Then whether the Immobile champ is good or not, will depend entirely on how well he kites.)

A lot of things can make it a knifes edge, however, we can target the mobility creep. Simply by using champions that have strong counters to dashes. (Poppy is a good example of this.) This was Riot's driving principle in their game balance. Perfect Imbalance, where if mobility got strong, counters to mobility would also become strong.)

And the ability of the mobile champ player will depend on how well he manages his dashes.

Poppy just happens to be a mobile champion. She does nothing either way with respect to balancing mobile vs immobile. She counters mobility, yet she is mobile.
