so Ryze is allowed to ult zhonyas...why?

No other champion is effected by zhone based effects while untargetable.

Take for example the SPAWN FOUNTAIN. Going untargetable in the spawn fountain stops it from healing you.

Why is he allowed to do this? Seems like a 'never get caught, ever' button.

While I understand that you are wanting consistency, why is this a problem?

What would be the benefit of using Zhonya's to not take Ryze's ultimate?

You fix it so the combo isn't done. The biggest issue is the fact that this WORKS and he cannot be caught in any scenario if he has this.
