How about a protected intended pick for champion select??

What if, when you go to select your pick intent, you have the option to give yourself a protected pick. These would allow for your team to know who you want to play as, but not be able to ban them. The sacrifice for this is that if you choose this option, you have to lock in that champ (unless the other team bans them). Your teammates could not chose to lock in this champ if they have pick order as well. Trading would still be possible though. If two or more players on a team pick to protect the same champion for selection, then the first one in the pick order gets it. If you get banned by the other team while holding the protected champ, you would select like you do currently.

This isn't a good idea. I completely understand where it comes from.. I've had my preferred champion banned by my own team several times. I just don't think it's a good idea to lock out champs from being banned.. for a few reasons that might make me sound like an asshole so I am not going to mention them.

lol. I hear you. But it would only be your teammates who could not ban the champ mind you.

Yeah, I know.. I still think it's a bad idea. :( I mean, let's say you queue in for top and you get it. SallyTiltsALot comes in as support and demands you to swap places with them. You decline, because you really want to play a bad ass DrMundo and tank everyone for days. SallyTiltsALot is upset at this and decides THEY are going to play Leblanc support and they put her for their preferred champion. Now this would make me want to ban Leblanc in hopes that 1, they dodge, or 2, they pick something that could actually provide support for our team.

That would make me an asshole, sure.. but it would also be looking out for our team. I would not hesitate to ban someone out of their pick if they're deliberately trying to screw over the team. I've seen it happen.

Yeah, it isnt a perfect solution. But it is just a step in the right direction i think.

The step in the right direction is for people to grow up. It's not that big of a deal if your preferred champ gets banned, yet I've had more people troll because of it than anything else this season...

I support the place you're coming from with this idea but i can imagine this going wrong in a lot of situations, for example:

Say i feel like playing some Yasuo Mid and i really don't want my team to troll me and ban it. So i lock it in as a protected pick. The enemy locks in Malzahar so ordinarily i would think to myself "dang that sucks i kinda felt like playing Yasuo, oh well i guess i'll have to go with something else." But now i'm unfortunately stuck against my counter even though they picked their champion first

And there's also the fact that there's no stopping the enemy team from banning/picking it away. I just don't see this working out.
