Morgana is a whole load of BS

Passive: Automatic spell healing

Q: In a meta where you can get killed in half a second a 3 second root is ages. Not to mention the cooldown can get down to 6.6 seconds and it scales with 90% ability power. And the range allows her to play ridiculously safe.

W: A guarantee ability if you land your q (which isn't very hard). If you land your q in the late game and then cast w it is a guarantee 480+(132% ability power) at the BARE MINIMUM. And she can do it every 7.2 seconds if she has 40% CDR

E: Despite being able to play safe from miles away if you do get close she has this thing that blocks all cc for 5 seconds if unbroken. And considering it has late game shielding of 300+(70% ability power) it isn't hard to keep it unbroken.

R: She can play obnoxiously safe, but also get a aggressive when she combines her r and e. Her R doesn't require aiming or even clicking on an enemy. No, it tells you when you can click it and that's all you have to do. Upon pressing R she instantly deals up to 300+(70% ability power) damage. If she can stick to chained enemies for more than 3 seconds she deals the same damage again and stuns for 1.5 seconds. Considering she can root people for 3 seconds it's not that hard.

Just to top it off if she presses r, does a q+w combo, and waits for the second part of R she is dealing a total of 1080+(272% ability power) damage . And that's not accounting for the bonus missing health damage of the w, with that you could deal even more. All and all Morgana has BS cc, immense damage, and the ability to play ridiculously safe. The correct way to approach her in my opinion is to lower the root duration of the q.

Legend: Tenacity + Mercury Treads = 63% Tenacity. That drops the duration from 3 seconds all the way down to 1.11. If we add Unflinching to that, you get 73%, which drops it to 0.81.

Doesn't even require playing around her. Once you have the stacks in Legend, you're set and there's literally nothing she can do about it. That's why in pro play knock-ups are so much more prevalent than stuns or roots, because they aren't affected by Tenacity.

And at bare minimum her W is 379 + (104% AP), if we use Orianna's base MR level 1, since she has the lowest. You're forgetting that every champion has base MR. And if she decides to get 40% CDR, she can't possibly have the 52 magic penetration required to deal 100% damage late game.

Her R is easily escaped if you didn't make the bad decision of engaging on her first, knowing she's very good at counter-engage specifically thanks to how the R functions.

Please, keep rants in RANT.

By damage I'm referring to pre defensive, but defensive stats don't change the 132% ap scaling at bare minimum (meaning I'm not factoring the bonus w damage based on missing health.)

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Pre-defensive damage means nothing unless you have 100% penetration. Which is why I corrected you by providing the actual bare minimum amount.

Post defensive damage does not change scaling, the scaling is what's broken. On top of that it does a large amount of base damage.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Well, no, evidently the scaling isn't broken because base MR exists. If it did that much damage, I would be on your side. But it doesn't.

Reksee2 votes

132% ap scaling is broken, even if you have MR that much scaling will negate the fact. That's the same scaling on Neeko's ult.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Ah, right, so Gangplank's ultimate, which has 1200 base damage and 120% scaling is broken, too?

No, because it's not an instant, targeted spell. And neither is Morgana's W. Her W is a relatively small AoE that's extremely easy to walk out of, and takes 5 entire seconds to deal its maximum damage... When she only has 4.5 seconds of immobilizing CC to keep you inside it, assuming she ults.

And on top of that, like I've already said, since neither of her CC moves are knock-ups you can bring the duration of her entire CC chain down from 4.5 to only 1.7s with only a rune and the boots you'd buy against a magic damage dealer anyway. That's less than half the duration of her W.

You cannot ignore the function of an ability as well as the kit it's in when you're trying to talk about the scaling. You might as well be trying to argue that pre-rework Gangplank's original random-pattern version of his ultimate was overpowered just because it had 1155 base damage and 140% AP scaling, while ignoring the fact he only ever had 20 AP from the old Triforce and the chance of getting hit with even half the cannonballs while standing completely still was minuscule.

But Morgana has a root. She can root you while you take damage, and the scaling of the q added to the scaling of the w (for 3 seconds) was 132%. If Morgana lands w and q at once that is the guaranteed damage. Maybe subtract 7% if the w is cast after the q but that would still be 125%.

Please read the rest of the comment. You obviously ignored the part about tenacity.

I'm not going to keep trying to have a discussion with you if you aren't going to read my responses.

What about mages, who can only really get the boots? What about the people in norms who can't see that a morg was picked?

The Ecdysiast1 votes

That's not true. Anyone can bring Legend:Tenacity. You should be changing your secondary runes for the enemies you're facing, not mindlessly following whatever guide you found on mobafire.

And what you're asking only applies to normal Blind, not normal Draft. And if you're going to play normal Blind, then you subject yourself to all the difficulties that entails. You need to be ready to fight a mirror match, or not get the role you want, or have to fight champions you couldn't ban. That's what you're risking in exchange for guaranteeing that whoever you want to play won't get banned.

Reksee1 votes

A champion shouldn't be something only balanced for draft.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

No, that's exactly how champions should be balanced. Around the competitive mode.

You might have a different opinion, but what you're asking for wouldn't be balance.

Reksee1 votes

I disagree that competitive mode should be the only avenue of balance, but you think that's how it should be. I don't think the argument is going to go any further so I think we should go our separate ways with our own opinions.

Eh, she's far from the worst thing bot lane. Pyke Yuumi Brand

The only issue I have with Morgana is how powerful her spell shield is within the context of bot lane. If you have a skill shot CC ability, then she can outright negate it by pressing a button. That really is only a pain to deal with during the laning phase though. Late game I don't have an issue with it.
