Opinion: More Mobility does not make the game fun

Reksee··130 votes·22,807 views

While they may derive some fun for the people who have mobility , it feels absolutely disgusting to play against. And while I agree it is necessary for the game, the current amount of it is excessive. Just think about the champs with extremely high mobility. Yasuo Riven Irelia Zed Around EVERY one of these champs, there is community outcry against them. People hate going against these champs because they are able to unload high damage while being nearly impossible to lock down for other champs. They are able to match other champs in damage and resiliency, but unlike other champions they can spam mobility spells which make them far harder to kill. This very simply makes them better than other champions. This is why people hate going against them. Think about this. When someone picks one of these champs they are having fun, while simultaneously making the game miserable for the 5 people on the opposing team. So please, give these champions some weaknesses and stop adding so many champions who have mobility. This game has more than enough as is.

I use to be OK with hyper mobile champion when they were squishy. But Irelia , Yasuo , Sylas , Riven are so so naturally tanky.

Even when you do lock them, they just tank the damage easily.

Sylas Tanky? OK Sylas Hypermobile? OK I can now say I have seen everything

Sodeb Lacudomite3 votes

Here are the numbers: https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Sylas

Abscond TARGET RANGE: 400 COST: 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 MANA COOLDOWN: 18 / 17 / 16 / 15 / 14 ACTIVE - ABSCOND: Sylas Dash dashes forward Abduct TARGET RANGE: 800 SPEED: 1600 / 1800 Dash pulling himself towards them

so with CDR, he has a 8 cooldown double-dash for 1200 range. Yeah that's actually a very good mobility, I think? FYI, Kassadin R is 500.

For the tankiness part, Sylas has a huge heal, which is on a 7 sec cooldown with CDR 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 / 150 (+ 50% AP) or when below 40% health 122.5 / 157.5 / 192.5 / 227.5 / 262.5 (+ 87.5% AP)

He also has a shield for 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 / 220 (+ 100% AP) also on 8 cooldown

On top of this, he has the 20th highest base HP at level 18 of the entire champion pool, he also has great armor and MR base stats. https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_champions/Health

I was waiting for this response.

The so called double dash is a short dash for E1 and E2 is a gapcloser that requires you to travel to enemy location, so go ahead and spam your so said mobility, see how you die nonstop.

The heal requires him to be really low HP to work, if not it is almost nonexistent. Given that is a heal and not a shield, Sylas can be oneshotted by most assasins. Even when he get the heal, he can't be tanky because of his poor def/mag def stats which somehow you recall good.

So, yeah what a strong champion. Hypermobile and Tanky. Wonder why he keeps less than 43% WinRate in all positions.

Sodeb Lacudomite5 votes

Look, I gave you actual numbers.... the actual talk to me is pointless, anyone could argue anything with empty (no numbers) words. What I could do eventually is comparing his numbers to other numbers (like, for example, his base HP is 20th out of 144 champion, which is pretty good, right?)

His heal + shield can give him about 1000 extra HP at level 18 with some AP. Malphite shield is 10% max health, that's 300 with 3000 HP, etc. Nautilus shield is 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 (+ 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 13% maximum health). Warwick would heal about 400 HP with his q late game.

About the dash or gapcloser, call it whatever you want, I gave you the range, 1200. 1200 is a lot. Malphite ult is 1000. Amumu q is 1100.

I don't know why you argue he doesn't have built-in mobility and tankiness, he does have it in his kit on top of good base stats.

EDIT: You're right that he is 43% winrate is soloqueue, which could mean that he is hard to play, or played by noobs. In competitive though, he had a 98% presence in patch 9.11 in NA and EU LCS, LCK, LPL and LMS, for a 63% winrate. So I would argue, in good hands, Sylas is strong. https://gol.gg/champion/list/season-ALL/split-ALL/tournament-ALL/patch-9.11/role-ALL/league-TOP5/

Maybe they need to add more grounded abilities to the game

Z3Sleeper25 votes

I liked the concept of grounding, only problem is that the only two grounding abilities in the game have a 60%+ slow attached to them. It screws over immobile champions who are easier to cut off with them or land on directly more than mobile champions.

SweedishGunner7 votes

Yeah and grounded screws over immobile champions as well as it prevents flashing. It's too universally strong, not just niche strong.

Z3Sleeper3 votes

If we had a grounding ability that didn't have a slow attached and didn't just activate in a set area like Cass and Singed, then it'd be better vs mobility than immobility because movement speed buffs would be unaffected.

Sire Hippington2 votes

I'd prefer simply haveing all dashes beeing interupted by all movment inhibiting CC(so stuns/roots and co, not just displacements) and getting slowed down by slows, like Yasuo is(i for one never had an issue with yasuos mobillity, it's predictably cause target bound and can be interupted by many things. His windwall and early dps however....)

Grounded has a low readabillity to it, feels frustraiting to go up gaingainst, doesn't help the existing rooster that doesn't have acces to it and potentially creates hardcounter scenarios, i don't think it's a healthy way to deal with mobillity. Not saying it doesn't have some place in the game, but don't think it can be used as a 'solution' for mobillity creep.

Dont forget the new Mobile Queen Qiyara

Jaspers20 votes

You might as well add Akali. She has so much movement speed bonuses. She get's 40-70% on her passive, 20-40% in her shroud and has a dash followed by a global dash on her E then 2 dashes on R.

Don't think many people had an issue with her heal but hey, they removed that for reasons.

Tails Doll4 votes

"Global dash" sure if the enemy champion is using some sort of global tp such as tf shen and the like, otherwise is just a normal tag follow.

Jaspers2 votes

Not sure what your point is, it's global, if the first part hits, the second will follow them wherever they go, doesn't matter if 2 teemos or Shen ulted back to base, still a dash.

Leetri3 votes

"Global dash" in your argument implies she can dash anywhere she wants on the map, like a TF ult on crack. But the only way it's a "global dash" is if the enemy uses a global blink/dash first. It's way more accurate to say you dash to a marked target. Otherwise towers have global range because their shots will hit you even if you teleport across the map.

I must say the mobility would not be a problem if not every CC in the whole game would have to be a skillshot. Now even Ryze snare has to be used afeter his e so these champs can still get away cause you need both spells in succesion. That is really irritating. Each and every CC is futile cause they just jump, dash, flash to the side or bhind you (talking to you ZEd). And dont tell me "Wait for him to jump and cc then", because that is the time when you are already dead

FSRER8 votes

Fun fact: Yasuo will outdamage even a full tank cause that champion is urf Riven will beat every tank in lane because of her having no mana costs while having low cooldowns Irelia can beat every, single, damned, tank because she will just true damage through its armor A good zed will not allow a tank to get even close to him so he will beat it down (but from all the others he is the most balanced) And let me add Sylas here who can beat every single duelist/tank/juggernaut in the game.

Razelth11 votes

Why is it a fun fact that a Yasuo outdamages a full tank? Its a tank. A tank should not do damage. All those champions are strong 1v1 duelists. Tanks tend to be better at teamfighting. Its a pretty weird complaint. That's like me complaining mages do magic damage and adcs do physical damage. Its just to be expected lol.

FSRER7 votes

Wrong usage of words, you are correct. Yasuo will shred through armor for no reason whatsoever even when someone has ninja tabis and randuins combined. Now, thats better.

Spicy Rice3 votes

lol what?

Not saying he doesn't shred through armor, because that's the whole point of his ult, but tabis and randuins neuters his damage so hard XD

FSRER3 votes

They do, Right until the point that he Q you 2 times and he tornado ults you and he just gets 50% armor pen on crits and that is when the final countdown starts. From then, you have about 3 seconds of life even when full armor.

Razelth1 votes

So being full armor means you should be immortal against physical damage dealers? 50% armor penetration should be the insanely strong against someone who built full armor. It shouldn't be weird that Yasuo can kill you with that. 3 casts of Q means that he was in combat with you for 4 seconds, assuming that he's capped the cooldown. You say that there's an extra 3 seconds of survival left. In a 7 second fight, the champion with sustained damage from critical and attack speed items as well as an ultimate that counters a full armor build should win that fight.

WAZZZUP5001 votes

he doesn't actually have to be in combat with the enemy. And he shouldn't be able always win against someone who builds to counter him. Of course, I'm not saying that builds should counter skill, but when I build tabi, randuins+ more armor, land my skillshots, and dodge all the q's I can, I shouldn't lose a fight against yas.

Razelth1 votes

So you're engaging a Yasuo who has his tornado up instead of waiting it out? That sounds like an issue with you not playing around that clear weakness. Yasuo doesn't always win against someone who builds to counter him. Each champion in the game has clear strengths. Yasuo's is a strong 1v1 duelling and skirmishing potential. If you don't have a champ that is strong in a 1v1, you shouldn't really beat a champion that is strong 1v1. Really, the only thing that won't be able to beat a Yasuo in a 1v1 even while fully building against him are tanks. It makes sense though, tanks are far stronger in a team fight scenario.

WAZZZUP5001 votes

Hold up, who said I was engaging? You act like yasuo doesnt have multiple dashes to get to me, and that his tornado is ranged, and can be undodgeable aoe if he dashes on me with it. If I play the fight correctly, all yas should be able to do is auto and q a couple times when i have built to specifically counter that. But I still lose. You're telling me that "hurr durr rightclick" should beat good itemization and skill? Just because of the champ choice?

Razelth1 votes

EQ isn't undodgeable. If you let Yasuo engage through you its your fault. The only way he has a way to engage onto you is through your own minion wave, and voila. You can position away from that. Champion choice is what should matter most in a 1v1 lmao. Skill comes second. No matter how well a Braum itemizes against a Master Yi, Yi will always win that fight as a result of champion choice. That is the way these kinds of games work. The only skill that a tank should show in that 1v1 is his skill in disengaging that fight because he knows Yasuo and other duelists champion will beat them in a 1v1.

If a counterplay of a champion requires you to back off from your own minion ie literally just leave the lane and afk at turret, this champ is bullshit; let alone that being the ONLY play interaction that is even available to the said champ's laning opponent.

And no, I am not just talking about champ that so happens to force you to back off and farm at your turret due to their strong dueling presence. I am talking about a champion that is DESIGNED to turn one of the fundamentals of the game, that your ALLY MINION that are supposed to help you zone the enemy, completely against you. It's very much the same as if there is an champ that can cast a debuff on the enemy that makes the fountain unable to heal them and in fact damages them every time they decide to recall to base.

That is bullshit, and you know it.

......

Also, EQ is undodgeable. Annie's Tibbers-stun is more dodgeable than Yasuo's EQ because she at least can miss her own Tibbers drop due to it being an AoE spell cast, that isn't the same for Yasuo's EQ which is initiated by a lock-on.

Do you believe Annie's Tibber-stun is a perfect embodiment of player interaction? And this is also after the fact Annie doesn't by DEFAULT warp and twist the fundamental rules of the game (as explored above) for their cynical and toxic design unlike Yasuo.

Note, I am using someone like Annie as a positive example here, given she is IN COMPARISON TO Yasuo. Just let it sink in on how bullshit Yasuo is fundamentally constructed, and we aren't even getting started.

Razelth1 votes

It's pretty ridiculous to exaggerate to that point. Yasuo doesn't automatically win lane after level 3. I've never had to AFK under tower against Yasuo. The most I've had to do was respect his strong levels 1-3 then abuse the fact he's weaker than most midlane champions from that point onward until midgame.

So Bard is badly designed? His stun turns ally minions against you. Neeko also does the same thing with her Q, where your minion's death is used against you. Her E also benefits from your minions so you can't just hide behind it. Oh, Renekton's E also zones you off from your own minions. So many champions destroy a league fundamentals I guess.

I do admit dodging his EQ is difficult, but saying it is impossible is silly. Yasuo's EQ can be missed by the Yasuo the same way that an Annie's Tibber's stun can. The player can make the error. In both scenarios, it is possible to flash away. Dodging either one is difficult but it isn't impossible.

I really detest bringing up ranks, and I'm trying to not rank shame. Most people who hate Yasuo have never even touched anything past Gold even after years of playing this game. People should learn to play against Yasuo instead of complaining in the Boards.

That's because Yasuo wins lane after level 2, and not 3.

And people don't afk under tower because they don't want to lose the game by fucking afking. Unless you believe "just afk" is a valid counterplay to a champ to design the game around; but this wouldn't even do because Yasuo is a hypercarry and giving him farm is a sure loss so they have to go out there, just to lose the lane literally by default, against a fucking hypercarry in early game.

And this is why Yasuo has positive or even extremely high lane kill rate against all of his matchups, barring champs that are just objectively more broken than he is, such as Irelia and Akali, and that's by his (lack of) design.

Any player playing against Yasuo, that isn't styling more ridiculous bullshit than him, is just stuck between a rock and a hard place that they don't deserve to be put in. Why do you think Yasuo is such a widely complained champion ever since his creation?

The most I've had to do was respect his strong levels 1-3 then abuse the fact he's weaker than most midlane champions from that point onward until midgame.

  • Yasuo is a hypercarry, and by design and his own development logs, is supposed to be super weak early. You can look it up, it's quite literally the very first line to the gameplay section of his development log. The fact he even has strong early game (let alone the fact he's a well known lane bully on top of being a hypercarry) is itself, a mistake.
  • A mistake that could've been seen by anyone even the blind, because any champion who is hyperscaling that also has strong base, an obscene amount of safety nets (I will get to this later), 0 CD and 0 resource costs, in-lane infinite mobility, and high amount of CC, is of course going to be a design and balance nightmare. A better question is why this design is even green-lit.
  • He isn't weaker than most midlane champs, I have no idea where you get that from. He's only weaker to BROKEN-ER mid lane champs. The only exception is probably Talon, but the rest champs that does better against him in mid only does so because they are objectively more broken. That's it.

There is a difference between zoning someone off your own ally minions, and flat out turning it against you.

There is a difference between Renekton dominating the lane to force you to play safe (which he doesn't even do that today, the 'butcher of top lane' is no more for a long time already, thanks to far more broken champs taking that role), Malz or Neeko slowly spreads spells over ally minions, or MF or Bard zoning you off 1 single minion, to Yasuo zoneing you off the entire god damn wave and doing it by abusing a mobility spell that has NO COST AND NO CD (even if you claim that it has an on-target CD, it still doesn't change the fact 7-8 dashes PER MINION WAVE is broken).

There is a difference between a champ using aspects of the game to bounce things off to you, and turning what should be on your side flips on its head and COMPLETELY against you.

Also, Neeko's E is broken. No one is arguing against that.

  1. You can't miss Yasuo's EQ the "same way" that you can miss cast an Annie Tibbers stun. Because the initiation is a lock-on spell, unlike Annie which at least has enough decency to keep it AoE even if it has other problems associated with it (such as the fact it has no cast time nor animation). The only way to miss it is if you are absolutely braindead, more so than missing Annie's already no counterplay Tibbers-stun enough to miss it.
  2. Flashing Annie's Tibbers-stun is allowed because it is an ULTIMATE. Yasuo's EQ should NOT cost a Flash especially when it has NO COST AND NO CD to begin with.
  3. You're ignoring the real significance of Yasuo's EQ, that it NULLIFIES Yasuo's need to land his ONE AND ONLY skillshot that is central to his power spike in any fight, which doesn't even have cost and CD to begin with. And even worse, the fact OTHER PEOPLE can knock up for him, and by using ANY reposition ability and not just knockups, is fundamentally broken. Because all of this shit is 4 different layers of safety nets to make sure Yasuo WILL HIT his powerspike even if the player literally doesn't have a brain (that is not even his only problem when it comes to safety nets, we can talk about his shield nullifying all pokes, windwall's absurd hitbox, and ulti placing Yasuo away from turrets to nullify all risks of turret diving, etc etc etc). And that is broken.

I am not sure if you notice this, but we're comparing Yasuo to Annie here, the latter of which has always been notorious for having little counterplay to opponents due to her archaic design; and another aspect to why Annie is broken is that she's completely useless without her Tibbers-stun, a statement that can't be repeated for Yasuo. The fact you're even trying to defend to Yasuo in this situation can only be seen as desperate, especially when the subjects of comparison is between Annie's ULTIMATE and Yasuo's NO COST AND NO CD BASIC SPELLS.

I will maintain the stance that Yasuo is a "training wheel" champion. Because he is a champion that by design is impossible to fail with unless you literally can not play League itself whatsoever. And it wouldn't be such a big deal had Yasuo not also be a fucking game-changer hypercarry who has high damage, sustain, utility (both CC, mobility, and even substantial range capabilities), and scaling, all in 1 package.

I really detest bringing up ranks, and I'm trying to not rank shame. Most people who hate Yasuo have never even touched anything past Gold even after years of playing this game. People should learn to play against Yasuo instead of complaining in the Boards.

Yasuo's ban rate is consistently high across all elos. Currently he's banned 50% in Bronze, and 41% in Diamond. The trend is clear, HALF of the playerbase of every elo, REGARDLESS OF RANK, hates Yasuo. And 15-20% of the other half only doesn't hate Yasuo because they are their players. So the actual players who MAY STILL HATE YASUO, but just not enough to ban him, sits at 30%. And remember, that's the players who DON'T HATE HIM ENOUGH TO BAN him, it doesn't include all players that do not hate him since you can still hate him but use the ban for someone else in this day where the game has far more broken champs than the 10 bans (that isn't even unique bans a lot of times since you can't see the enemy bans for some godly reasons).

It's safe to say that barring the players who happily abuse Yasuo, only a very small minority of players do not hate him.

The reason for the special level of hate for Yasuo amongst today's ocean of broken champs is also simple: his kit is badly designed and broken, but more importantly, he's the first champ to officially bring the game into today's state of overloading and mobility creeping.

Razelth1 votes

Yasuo's strongest points early game are lvl 1-3 lmao. You really don't understand how to play League of Legends do you? He falls off until he gets his Shiv IE then progressively becomes stronger. Compared to others in midlane, he doesn't get anything out of leveling his abilities. The upgrades are negligible compared to what others get. That's why his lvl 1-3 are his strongest points, where he can just auto attack midlaners to death. Yasuo is highly complained about because half the playerbase doesn't understand how to play the game past trying to 1v1 their enemy laner. Half the playerbase makes ridiculous mistakes that Yasuo can punish due to how his kit works.

https://champion.gg/champion/yasuo/Middle? Yasuo really is a strong hypercarry huh? 44.50% winrate after 40 minutes.

It's funny how you mention that Yasuo zones you using your own minion wave in the initial post, then backtrack and say he now turns them against you. Make up your mind will you? How is Renekton E any different from Yasuo's E? They both use your own minions to engage onto you. How is Bard's Q different? He zones you off from the minion wave by the threat of his stun. All those champions can just stand around your minion wave, and not let you last hit while they do. You say there's a difference, but frankly that difference is just for you to be able to desperately and pitifully argue your ridiculous points.

You know what? Annie's Q shouldn't stun then. It is targeted and costs nearly no mana while being ranged. You can't even flash out of it!

The fact you've never been able to achieve anything past silver in over 3 years of playing this game shows your lack of conviction in trying to improve and understand the game. Almost everyone that makes posts complaining about Yasuo are below average with their game knowledge and skill. There is a reason why Riot rarely makes balancing decisions to cater to those in your rank. I really need to stop talking on the boards, its so pathetic reading these kinds of posts.

  1. Most games do not last to 40+.
  • The stats also do not take into consideration of the general personality of the playerbase of a given champion. Yasuo is notorious alongside likes of Vayne, Riven etc to have a very cocky playerbase prone to bm, tilt and throws (no rewards for those who can guess why, but if you don't know here's the answer: They are all hypercarries who are 1-man army in late game and broken with many design and balance flaws that make them unbearable to play against). If anything, Yasuo's win rate flying off at 40+ min where every decision matters and any caught-out instantly costs the game, despite being a hypercarry champ who can 1v3 easily in late game by having one of the highest scaling factor in the game, is indicative of that trait more than anything else.
  1. Renekton's E allows him to dash ONE EXTRA TIME EVERY 18 TO 14 SECONDS CD ON TOP OF MINION WAVE, which has to be cast RIGHT AFTER his previous dash or he just wastes it. Yasuo's E allows him to dash** 7-8 SEPARATE/INDIVIDUAL TIMES EVERY MINION WAVE (30 SECONDS) ON 1 SECOND OR LOWER CD**. If you still think they are on the same page, then I have nothing to talk to you.
  • And dash is not even the only problem of Yasuo as it is just 1 of the entire fuckery, while it actually is for Renekton where his effectiveness hinges entirely on how effective his dash is and today's mobility and CC creep is precisely the reason why Reketon lost his 'butcher of the top lane' status by directly making his E not so effective anymore.
  1. The fact you keep on trying to say Yasuo is good by making comparison to Annie, another problem champ, is just funny.
  • Also, Annie's spells stuns based on her passive charge, she has higher CDs than Yasuo (obviously) to charge it with, and she also works on mana which she has to kill the target to get refunds out of (and that's only for 1 spell); her spells are actually really costly (especially when compared to someone like Yasuo who has 0 costs) as per the courtesy of old designs, this is even more true for her stun, which requires the CD and mana costs more multiple spells for a single use. And Annie is only useful because of her ulti and/or her stun, she is basically useless everything else, and that's why she's broken because of her extremely uneven power distribution; and that doesn't cover the fact she also has her share of counterplay problems, too.
  • Yasuo on the hand, is stronger than Annie in every possible way, together with more amount of design flaws.
  1. Yasuo's ban stat doesn't matter I guess. I don't need to climb the ranks to know half of the high elo also bans him which you can look it up within a second, and it's just like his ban rate low elo. Maybe it isn't a skill problem like Master Yi where his ban rate flies off the cliff in high elo?
  • Also funny story, Yi has lower ban rate than Yasuo in low elo, too; by 20 fcking percent in Bronze where both peaks their ban rate.
  • In other words, even the supposedly bad low elo players actually have less problem with Yi, a champ designed to be a low elo pubstomper, than Yasuo, who is not only hated more in low elo but also equally hated by high elo. The answer is that Yasuo himself is the problem.

.......

Lastly, of all the sites you could source data from, you just have to pick from the worst one that is filled with nothing but badly sourced statistics (or rather, its tendency to sample an extremely small amount of data to draw graphs out of), that is so inaccurate it even got a special privilege of being shamed by Rioters before iirc.

.......

1 more point. If you actually bothered enough to check my profile to shame me based on it. You'd know I've been playing this game since SEASON ONE and was never a ranked player outside of small doses with barely any ranked games clocked under me. So I fail to see how the rank shame is necessary since it's not like I was ever a ranked player, or that how you somehow got my years of playing wrong to just 3 years when I have like 3 times that.

Having consistenly negative winrate in Bronze and Silver is enough to prove that you don't care about improving.

Fun fact: Yasuo will outdamage even a full tank cause that champion is urf

Do you expect a Tank to do more DPS than an ADC or what?

Yasuo and Zed get really screwed over by just one stun and follow up tbh. I guess it can be an issue of hitting the stuns but you should get into the market of reading your opponent in that case. As a Zed and Yasuo player i have lost plenty of games where my team was even slightly behind and all the enemy had to do was focus me with lockdown. Riven and Irelia really are too tanky for their damage numbers. Ngl they are beyond frustrating to play against. Aatrox has become a pretty big pain late game too with his E cooldown only being 4 seconds with cdr stats. The big issue really is just way too much damage in the game, and there are a lot of champs who are extremely hard to kill just from abilites that make them tanky with zero counterplay. Need more abilities that can do something about shields!
