People miss the point of reworks

It's not about making a champion stronger or weaker necessarily. Ideally, yes, riot wants a reworked champion to be in a good state but that's not the ultimate goal of the rework.

See pre rework vlad. There is no way in hell riot could ever give him a meaningful buff. His gameplay was way too unhealthy. He was released seemingly week and given a few buffs and it turns about abusing tank/hp items on him is broken. But guess what? Whether he was weak or strong, Riot could actually buff him now or find a line of real balance on him rather than him being this incredibly binary champion that rolls you with no counterplay or gets rolled.

People complained about the Mage rework but basically every Mage reworked thus far has vastly benefited from the changes directly and indirectly. But that wasn't the point, many of these champions had a lot of bullshit in their designs that made balancing them a nightmare and buffing them was always a dangerous prospect. With their reworks, riot could actually get much closer to balancing many of them and finding niches for them that's more than just "aoe damage dealer" or "overkill burst Mage."

Even better when Karthus "wasn't part of the mage rework" when he obviously had a rather unique kit. And that the item changes actually helped him.

I still miss old Shen.

I still miss old Shen.

I think new Shen actually has a really complex pattern of play now. His W is actually incredibly powerful now but it can also be very weak and provide just about nothing if used improperly. He's not anymore mechanically difficult now than he used to be but he's also not the same champion that Qs you off cooldown and harasses you out of lane while sustaining.

Just missed the mark for me personally... I played shen a lot [4th most of any champ] now it's quite rare if I do.

It's sad this has to be explained rather than it already being known...

It's a very sad truth but reworks in general can be confusing. Reworks can also be to simply diversify a class. Look at the marksmen rework, it certainly wasn't because ADCs sucked or needed help as a class. They weren't super overpowered either, their class just had stale itemization and very few of them fit a specific niche. It was either generic right click damage dealer or generic caster damage dealer. The goal was to diversify this and branch their class out.

The Mage rework was kinda similar. It wasn't because immobile mages sucked. No, in fact many of them had been good at some point or were very good at that point but they had really crappy power distribution to make up for their immobility. And every build was basically a means of getting to the highest amount of AP/CDR possibly without considering passives in their itemization, again very stale and generic.

That's what reworks do and I'd argue every single Mage reworked is either stronger or in a healthier state to be made stronger if they're too weak.

well vlad didn't really change much hes still unhealthy with his point and click Q. less unhealthy. but still unhealthy. the whole point of the rework was to make his Q a skillshot or change the ability completely.

His Q definitively does not need to become a skillshot. Vladimir needs reliable damage. He already has an incredibly unreliable E that can be blocked by minions. On top of that, this Q does not do relevant damage unless empowered, also it is short ranged.

because hes building pretty much tank.

For Vlad specifically he is still unhealthy. He is healthier, but still unhealthy. I'd say it was a success, because he is improved (though I personally do not like it).

This is probably why Riot may do an assassin rework over a tank rework.
