Is the state of the game really that bad, or boards just overreacting? (genuine question)

USG Failsawce··9 votes·1,636 views

I mean I come on the boards from time to time so I see a lot of "balance sucks right now, champ OP, item is ridiculous etc etc" threads. But it kinda feels like there's a great deal more of that even than usual.

I haven't been able to play as much the past couple months and am not really up to date on the last 2 patch notes (which I'll go read now), regardless of which... is the state of the game really as bad as people are saying? worst it's ever been? ridiculous balance design, etc?

or are people just overreacting and it's not THAT bad, or what?

The board always, and I mean ALWAYS, overreacts to everything.

Every complaint has some truth to it though. Cept for the jerks complaining how they got banned for no reason.

Even those have their own small kernel of truth.

The player was banned.

This is the only response necessary in this thread

as a ARAM player the game has gotten worse for me, due to triump and dark harvest games snowball waaaay more, one sided stomps are significantly more common and you have games ending at 7-8 minute mark frequently, it's just boring

As a proud TWISTED TREELINE MAIN I agree xD.

Totally agree with this comment. I'm mostly an aram player but I feel like the game is so snowbally. I think it has to do with the towers being ridiculously weak. There's a good amount of fighting for the first tower. But after that, the second tower, inhibitor and nexus towers usually fall in one swoop. It shouldn't be that way.

Firefox5099 votes

Both. It has taken a hard decline and the boards only over exaggerate it more.

Thanatas7 votes

it really is that bad. this game is a shell of what it was from s2-s5

sure games were longer than, but people weren't nearly as toxic, and one gank bot side didn't assure a lost tower at 5 minutes.

towers are trash. there's too much damage in ad itemization. AP items are overpriced while being weaker. hyper carries outside of botlane are almost worthless because games never get to the point where they actually become good unless they get fed. mobility is an absolute nightmare. if you don't have a dash, blink, or massive movespeed steroid you're pretty much out of the meta.

Boards babyraging. Been like this since~2013

Honestly this is the worst I've ever seen it. I've been playing since season2 and it wasn't until last season I stopped playing competitively. There are far too many people who's sole purpose is to troll and Riot does not attempt to fix this negative part of the community. On top of questionable changes to the game, it's just not as enjoyable as it used to be. I have more fun now being a casual gamer.

Salson5 votes

Mostly depends on what you play.

Jungle dominates early game, so for everyone else the game is essentially ruined. If you like Jungle, guess it's fun.

Also Adc spikes at 2 items and takes over the game. You're still reliant on getting there though.

Then why are you here on the boards talking about it? 0.o

LankPants4 votes

It's bad enough that I don't personally have any desire at all to play. I can't talk for anyone else but for me this season is just terrible.

nm10103 votes

The game isn't THAT bad but many of the problems people have are either self caused by Riot, have been around forever but never fixed, or things they simply ignore which leads to more bitching than the actual balance state deserves.

Oh and of course ~25-50% are actually just salt threads that mean nothing.

Edit: You know I took a second to think about it and if they fixed the handful of glaring problems in the game (which they have recently started doing), this might actually be one of the best seasons in LoL history. Well at least since season 2 when I first started playing.

Diamond2Kappa3 votes

Its just really bot lane, jungle and teamfight focused right now, neither top or mid are very fun to play unless you play the meta stuff. So as a mid laner that doesnt like wave clearing 24/7 while not being allowed to go for solo kills, it is that bad.

mrnm3 votes

If board wasn't overreacting, everything would be on fire. That doesn't necessarily mean that the game isn't in a bad state at the moment. Sadly I believe riot's vision for the future of this game is not in line with what I want.

The main point I want addressed is that there are too many easy to play champions, which inflates the effect of counterpicking and makes the game essentially RNG based on who gets to pick second. I need a clear answer to this. Either they admit that they want our games to be decided by RNG in the lobby so I can quit for good. Or they need to make massive changes to some champions that only have very specific counterplay that some champions can't make use of.

Boards overreacting for sure.

Guy Fox Teemo2 votes

Take the boards opinions with a grain of salt. They generally overreact to most if not all changes, far more then something like reddit. Ant a lot of it is just circle jerk.

Personally I think the current meta is just not really fun, I prefer something like Jhin, Jinx meta, to Vayne, Varus; Or Maokai, Shen, to a Nasus Ornn. Don't thinkt he games "unbalanced" just a lot of for me super frustrating champions, being so popular (looking at you Zoe)

reaperteaser1 votes

other than thinking that marksmen items are a bit cheap and damage being high throughout all sources (minus towers), i think that everything is fine. but im a bronzei so what do i know?__

When, even Dyrus, QTpie, and scarra all agree with hash that the game is shit. Then its not just the boards.

LVL99 Helper TK1 votes

the game is unplayable right now, but with enough pressure put on riot it might be fixed.

Hibeki1 votes

Nah its pretty bad, look up things like Beyond the rift (with hash) and they have major beefs as well

Common Satyr1 votes

They are 100% over reacting. I don't mean to sound harsh, but so much of what they hate doesnt even make sense. Stop watch is not broken, it is a 1 use item. I dont even take stopwatch, my thoughts on it are as follows: kind of a cool and flashy mechanic that allows for cool outplay maneuvers. Also the same people who complain that towers are too weak and 3 or 4 man dives are ruining the game also complain about stop watch, which is rich considering stopwatch is about your best hope at beating/surviving a 3 man tower dive. Not Id actually be okay with a tower buff but honestly I dont think it is that bad. Also I think mobility is high, but not really a bad thing. People just like high mobility because it FEELS good and is flashy. Again and maybe this is too small a sample size, but I have been hard climbing on Sion support (who is very immobile and has very little burst). So idk, id suggest you play and get your own opinion.

Neidox1 votes

I really don't feel a need to play anymore. I just instinctively click on boards to see what is going on and if things may change for the better.

Boards are 99% bronze 5 posters.

Treat all threads as such.

TurtleMari1 votes

Its okay with the exception that if you were wanting to play a traditional tank, you'd be a dps instead. Everything is doing a little too much damage, too early in the game, towers are made of paper (again), League of Stopwatch is a thing and i think thats pretty much it? .-.

Both:

Riot is fucking shit up while the boards are stirring shit up. I am pretty sure that people on both sides who are reasonable are at wits end of this shit.

I personally think the game is pretty good right now. Things could be better, but I’m not complaining. The boards kinda depress me.

FridgesArePpl21 votes

Anecdotally, I know about 5 people IRL who play LoL of various rankings from Silver to Diamond and none of them are particularly dissatisfied with the state of the game.
The boards are just an Ekko chamber and any valid complaints are either exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness or are drowned out by a myriad of posts in the format of "I lost lane to X champ, therefore X champ is broken and needs a nerf, why does Rito hate me?".

Personally, I love most of the recent changes. Most of the new champs and reworks in the last year have been great, the new runes system is a huge improvement, the BE change makes way more sense, and the support item changes have made supports more fun to play.

hi ìm groot1 votes

Riot got a bit carried away with making major changes. They wanted to dramatically change the game with their new mastery system, and they did, and it sucks.

Despite what the forums are raging about though, you can still adapt, and you can still climb. But there's alot of things you cannot effectively play, because when you make your masteries so impactful on the game, you either have to make good masteries to synergize with EVERY SINGLE CHAMP, or the ones that the masteries synergize with the best will be stronger, period. And their stopwatch mastery is a meme, should have never happened and should be removed as soon as they come to their senses.

Games just kind of struggling under the weight of a bad design decision to make masteries super impactful, but its still basically the same game.

Mountain Warden1 votes

I'm of the opinion that the fate of a match shouldn't reside on winning a single engagement then snowball all the way to nexus. To win a match, it should be required to win several team fights. Right now, mistakes are punished so harshly there is no opportunity to dig yourself out of a hole if you're on the loosing side. Overall damage needs to be brought down a bit and towers need to be stronger and hit much harder. Currently, they are just cardboard constructions shooting love and kisses at you. It's a joke.

Titanium701 votes

Everyone complaing about to snowbally games while on the same patch games reach 60 min+ in the professional scene... That's a big warning sign for a terrible state of the game if you ask me.
