Just went up against "Korean Build" Jhin...

USG Failsawce··27 votes·6,067 views

And don't understand how something like this can even be so damn strong... I don't play Jhin, I understand his abilities for the most part, and the fact that he thrives off of crit...

So how does item 3142 item 3147 item 3156 item 3009 translate to basically 1 shotting people...

I realize, lots of flat armor pen, etc, duskblade + his crit shot... but how does a Jhin who started the game as 0-4 end up carrying their entire team, mid to late game, by 2 shotting squishies, who were ahead of him, and 3 shotting tanks (of which I was one of)???

By the end of the match, even the enemy team asked "how are you guys suddenly doing so bad...?" cus we were quite far ahead of them, for a while... but just could not do ANYTHING, by the end... 3 of us answered "Jhin is just 1 shotting everyone..."

What the actual f***, is this build?!

because he doesn't thrive off crit, but of raw ad and like any mostly ohysical damage champ of arpen. The stat priority for damage on jhin goes this: AD-arpen-crit-as. Since crit is multiplicativem with ad, it is important for the lategame scaleing, and ER+IE+another off item will give more damage than the 3 you listed. However, yomuu's+Duskblade gives the stron 1 and 2 item spikes, which is the entire point of those 'korean' builts. They are stronger in the early and help snowbaling, but have a worse mid-lategame, especially those that don't use BC. However, at the current state of the game, the early to midgame simply is very important and snowballing is the name of the game, so earlygame focused builts are dominant. Ad/arpen focused builts worked just aswell on caster type carries in previous season, like the famous 'legolas built' with Brutalizer->BT->LW, just that the previous seasons were less focused on the earlygame and thus the scaleing crit builts were usually prefered.

And for the jhin escalateing mid-late, that's not the built, that's jhin, his damage scales hard and i'm sure he went for crit after the pen items. If he went for crit in the first place, he weould have wrecked you guys all the same, cause his mid-late with crit is better rather than worse with crit. Also the usuall fail of many people vs adc or other carries: him beeing 0-4 means nothing if he's allowed to get to his itemspikes, and you guys probably disrespected him and his damage because he was 0-4, he was allowed to clean up a fight and then started to wreck people, that's just how it usually goes with vayne...Even then a carrie does bad, once he gets 3+ items(+boots), you need to respect their damage and take them down as quickly as possible in a fight.

edit: just saw the link for your game: you were support blitz with only an iceborn for armor and 900hp from the support fotm+locked, that'S by no means tanky vs any 4 item adc. Same with your lee, a deadmen's and a ruby crystal do not grant any meaningfull tankiness at that point of the game. Just as i suspected, you guys disrespected jhin because he went 0-4, didn't bother to get armor and got wrecked by a flatpen built that excelss at punishing low armor targets. Also, you guys had an adc bard and no proper aoe cc, and you probably comitted to full scale teamfights with a teamcomp that just sucks hard for teamfights later on. Your comp is good at kiteing and createing picks, but i'm 100% confident it wasn't executed that way later in the game. Also, e ignites and no exhausts in the team, that also means you snowball early with the higher killpresure from ignite, but have a harder time in teamfights cause you can't shut down the adc damage with exhaust. On top of that you have 3 ranged damage dealers and two melees that relay on skillshots vs a braum.. Their teamcomp was bound to crush your's in proper teamfights unless you have a massive goldlead on them.

kept getting out of position right from the start

if that was true, it should have been easily possible for you to grab him and your team to murder him befor he gets in range for any AAs. He probably got cought alot in lane and the earlygame, but his positioning in teamfights probably was decent enough.

Also, going by your matchhistory, rumble and ekko carried them through the early-mid, and it was mostly your lee, a champ that falls of hard later on, that got the kills early. And even then, the oppsing team had a gold lead past 15 min that just kept increaseing whil haveing a superior teamfighting comp vs a snowball focused comb, so they started getting ahead befor jhin got his first kill already. The game was mostly won in champselect, and rumble was the main reason they got rolling. Once they got rolling, jhin took over, but at that time they were alread ahead 6k of your team.

This is not korean jhin beeing op, but you guys plaing a bad teamcomp, getting out picked and disrespecting some one cause he died in the early. You just use jhin as a scapegoat for your loss as he did the most damage and got the most kills. But that's what the adc is there for, as soon as the fights go well for a team, it's usually the adc who can cleanup the kills and bring the damage in the lategame while the rest enables him to do so.

Once again, most of the points you made are just regurgitating things I myself and others have already said. We had a poor comp. It was adc bard top (not bot). We had an adc ezreal who didn't do much after his first couple kills, and a karma mid. Lee wasn't the only one getting kills or ahead either, our lane was ahead, mid was ahead, and top was ahead, as was Jungle...

I wasn't expecting our teamfight to be good vs theirs when I saw the comps, nor did we attempt to 5v5 like you said. Nor did we "disrespect" Jhin like you keep saying. He walked into lane 0-4, and killed Ezreal, then killed me... me building more armor at this early point wouldn't have even been possible, let alone would it have changed much.

I even said I would have built more armor, ya know like...instead of Iceborns, had I known Jhin was going to miraculously rape our entire team in a way no Jhin has ever before, given the circumstance, with the usual crit build he normally goes. That's not disrespect, that's a lack of a knowing that a build like what he used even exists if anything, let alone can suddenly stomp so hard, while that far behind, at that particular point in the game. Since he CAN'T and has NEVER done that with his normal build, that's the point...

Even if I did know it exists, and we did our best to avoid the sudden 0-4 stomp out of nowhere. That doesn't make it any less stupid, what he pulled completely out of his ass. I UNDERSTAND that it's an early game build, with lots of pen, and strong power spikes. That doesn't mean it's not BS lol.

Thanks for the tips on ignite vs exhaust, I'm quite well aware of the difference, and for what reasons they're each used.

I did also grab the out of position Jhin mid-late game, quite a few times... but it didn't matter cus that would just make it easier for him to 1 shot someone, then Rumble comes in and cleans up whoever else is around.

This is not me using Jhin as a scapegoat, as I've already accepted everything else you said, before you even said it. Our team was ahead, we DID have a large lead... and Jhin practically singledhandedly carried them out of it.

Rumble, Ekko, and Morde wouldn't have done crap most of the game if Jhin hadn't set up a lot of their kills for them - especially Rumble.

I didn't make this as a QQ thread for one particular match, and cry for people to agree with me that we should have won or some nonsense. I made it to point out how broken I think a build is in general, and see if others have gone against it/have the same issue with it. And I'm clearly not alone in thinking this.

Even if we DID disrespect him, plan our comp poorly, make tons of mistakes whatever... None of that changes, how ridiculous and stupid the build was. And how MUCH it changed everything for them, basically by itself. NOT simply Jhin being Jhin alone.

Sire Hippington6 votes

Lee wasn't the only one getting kills or ahead either, our lane was ahead, mid was ahead, and top was ahead, as was Jungle...

all your lanes might have had a small lead, but your team never was ahead by more than 1.6k that game, and by the time jhin got his first kill his team was already up 2k

He walked into lane 0-4, and killed Ezreal, then killed me.

Acourding to the match history, he didn't kill you a single time in that game, and you didn't die the next few min after his first kill on EZ. so certainly didn't walk back in lane, kill ez and then killed you. And even though he was 0-4, by the time he killed EZ he had a yomuu's+dirk(4300g) vs Ezreals manamune+sheen(3450), so he had at that point an item advantage vs Ezreal, ontop of that one of ez items was manaumne which needs to scale up till it's effective, and Jhin had 30 flat pen from items and ~20 from runes+masteries vs an ez with no armor from items and only 7 from runes, so he deal nearly truedamage to ez, and not much less to a blitz with combined 24armor from items and runes. Aditionaly, seeing where the kill hapend, it was behind their outer bot turret, which was alive at that point, so why exactly was ez behind that turret at that time? So lets sum it up: Jhin has an earlygame focused itempath with fitting runes and more gold in his inventory, ez has a delayed scaleing built that's still a good way from it's actuall powerspike and They fought under or behind Jhins tower. This looks alot like you(meaning your team, not you specifically) did disrespect jhin for beeing 0-4 instead of looking what items he has and when his power spikes compared to yours(looks mostly like your ez sucked hard tbh)

And for his rediulous damage later in the game: Braum had Zekes at min 22, which grants 50% !!! crit chance to Jhin, and obviously with 50% aditional crit chance on top of all the flat pen and ad vs a squishy team means he will just cut through you like wet paper. If you want to fault something for his insane sudden damage spike later on, then it's item 3050 , And the spike that allowed him to kill ez and start rolling was the early-midgame spike of the flat-pen built. And by running full pen runes, that spike is massive at the cost of the early laneing phase.

Just that this is not how it works. It may read 'increases crit by 50%' which can be interpreted your way, but it actually is +50% crit. If you don't belive me, go in a custom with bots, buy it and look at your critchance once it procs.

Yes you are right. Sorry for bothering you.

Its an earlygame/midgame build. Raw armor pen works well with high output on squishy targets (Because it turns that high damage attack/ability into true damage basically, if you have 50 raw armor pen, and the enemie adc has 50 armor, you basically deal true damage to him.)

A raw crit build deals A LOT more damage lategame, but early/midgame, armor pen is just superior...

I mean I guess... Just seems kind of silly seeing as how he was 0-4 and then suddenly made us completely useless bot lane out of nowhere.

Can't imagine how broken it would be on a Jhin who's actually ahead from the start... like wtf?

Sahn Uzal5 votes

Jhin is a champion who has A LOT of damage, range, and a decent amount of utility to work with when behind. He's not the easiest to get your hands on, but when you do, as an assassin/fighter, he'll most likely die because he has no mobility and his locked attackspeed will most likely result in him being unable to outlifesteal you like another ADC like Jinx could.

Snowball4u9 votes

all of u r squishy and armor pen does really good against squishy champions

if there are tanks you will do much more damage with critting every auto than u r with armor pen

dont ask why, but its like the sunfire + iceborn making ANY champ a tank

The Yetii Rider8 votes

It's because Jhin's kit has % missing health damage. % missing health damage scales incredibly well with armor penetration, that's why you usually only see that kind of damage on assassins (whose primary itemization includes penetration).

% missing health damage does not scale with AD, AS, or crit. It can only get stronger with armor penetration.

warpenguin5557 votes

yeah fuck the full armor pen builds

AMYS GRAVE5 votes

Because turrets have lower HP but have armor now, everyone buys armor pen which is amazing when trying to kill people. They have unintentionally stat bound armor pen to adcs because an adcs job is to kill towers, and now armor pen works on towers.

LatetotheRace5 votes

It's effectively because item 3142 needs to be nerfed. It's too strong on too many champions. This was an item to help assassin get kills, but now every marksman and fighter uses it.

Blue Collar Bear4 votes

To be honest, it's the % missing health physical damage on his passive and ultimate that benefit off of armor penetration.

Same with Ms. Fortune's Korean build. I was playing adc against a Ms. Fortune and Karma lane, and they were one shotting my support Soraka with both of their Q's combined, lol.

Lots of ADCs can abuse Youmuu's/Duskblade/Cleaver/Maw/other armor pen non-crit items that weren't meant for the even better than Jhin. These items should never have been usable on ADCs in the first place. He's not that special particularly.

It's just they have a lot higher consistent DPS while Jhin has okay-okay-okay-fuckingmurdereverything-reloadthattakesfuckingforever-repeat instead. This is why his strong (as in fourth shot) blows seem that much more painful because of his % missing health on his fourth.

That much armor pen tears through both tanks and squishies, but it's a super snowball-INTENDED build, as opposed to his typical, safer, more consistent crit build. He doesn't thrive off crit, he thrives off AD. He just can use crit decently well.

It doesn't really matter how shit he is, you yourself said he was a bad Jhin who kept getting caught out and whatever. But literally anyone can do massive damage if you can't end the game and it drags out. They'll eventually get the gold for their items no matter how long it takes at which point they're basically fed because you can't really do much after 5full+boots or 6full to become any more fed.

His R needs a nerf, the damage combined with the range + slow is not acceptable.

His R needs a nerf, the damage combined with the range + slow is not acceptable.

His R is telegraphed, easy to dodge, and can be body blocked though. The problem is that the execute damage scales insanely high.

cocacolalips1 votes
  1. The whole dodge thing is a myth. Because of the slow, if you hit 1 of the 4 shots, you hit all the following ones. If they wanted to make it a sniper shot, they should remove the slow.

  2. blocking isn't an option either, the damage is so high, it will kill anyone who isn't a tank, and take 75% health of a tank. If your tank is at 25% health, you lost the fight anyway since you cannot contest the objective anymore.

Currently, there are only 2 options available to the player when Jhin presses R, neither are any satisfactory.

  1. hope the player playing Jhin sucks and messes up his R, it happens

  2. disengage, abandon the objective and lose the game

  3. stay around, die and lose the game

Unless the person playing Jhin is bad, it's a loss-loss situation. His R is a -I win- button.

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

You forgot option 4.

  1. Follow the cone of his ult to where he is and pound him.

Plus his R does kinda lame damage when you're full health.

cocacolalips1 votes

[deleted]

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

A good Jihn will typically save his ult for cleaning up a teamfight. So he shouldn't have four teammates unless his team stomped, in which case he wouldn't need to use his ult per se.

Now if it was quite close and everybody's kinda low and circling each other looking for an opening, now it's time for the Virtuoso to pop out his sniper and take some shots.

But in that case he wouldn't be too close to a teamfight or else he would be pounced on before his ult would do any good. so it would be a 4v5 in your teamfight and you should win.

cocacolalips1 votes

Cleaning up a teamfight, as in, everyone is around 50% health. That's not cleaning up, that's destroying a team with one button.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

He would have to be insanely fed to do that much damage.

Just build armor. He has four shots and there are five of you.

Assassins make the Virtuoso cry.

Edit: not downplaying Jhin. I know he's strong. But just know that he can be defeated. Any champ can be.

cocacolalips1 votes

He doesn't need to be really fed, he needs 2 items, IE and Essence Reaver. Get another critical chance item and you have 100 critical chance. He gets AD from critical chance and attack speed from his passive. 3 items Jhin is what? 400 AD?

That's you average mid game ADC build.

The only counters to Jhin are Yasuo and Braum, and assassins I guess, but assassins are good against anyone, and you can't expect to have an assassin 2K+ range from the teamfight all the time.

Edit: Jhin is going to be nerfed, he is too popular even in LCS games, my concern is that they nerf the right thing. The same way they reworked Nidalees spears a couple years ago, I hope they address his R or maybe his passive.

Jhin has the FOURTH highest win rate Plat+ and he's only a half of a point ahead of the 6th spot. His pick rate is currently behind Cait, Vayne, Ezrael and Lucian (and within 3% points of both Jinx and Ashe who coincidentally have a higher win rate than Jhin). No one so far has mentioned that Duskblade gives him even more execute damage (his 4th shot and ult both scale with execute damage, %missingHP) which is some of the highest scaling damage potential in the game. Youmuu's gives him early AS boost which gives him a ton of AD for a short duration, and Maw because ADC's don't like being blown up by mages without being able to react.

Kenioshi2 sequel3 votes

It honestly comes down to the team comp you had. You had no tank Lee sin doesn't count, no hard cc beside blitz but he is reliant on his hook and if you walk up and ult you would get blown up, and they just scale better, also the AD top lane Bard wasn't ever going to help the longer the game went on.

ThatHaleState2 votes

By the time he gets all 3, He is probably doing true dmg to the squshies. Plus since he's weird on his stat uses, Jhin always gets really high AD compared to a Vayne, Jinx, etc. Plus the Youmoos active gives him even more AD with his interaction with atk spd, so yeah he hurts alot lol.

armor pen from item 3147 item 3142 doesn't stack

Julanus5 votes

Actually, it does.

The Armor Penetration is a UNIQUE Passive on both item 3147 Duskblade of Draktharr and item 3142 Yomuu's Ghostblade.

  • UNIQUE Passive means the passive effect won't stack if you build multiple of the same item.
  • Building two item 3133 will only give you 10% Cooldown Reduction.
  • Building item 3133 and item 3067 will give you 20% Cooldown Reduction.

What you're thinking of is UNIQUE Passive: [Passive Name], or a Named Unique Passive.

  • UNIQUE Passive: [Passive Name] means the passive effect will only apply from one item, and any other items with the same named passive will be placed on cooldown.

  • UNIQUE Passive: Spellblade is shared by all items built with Sheen. If multiple Spellblade items have been built, the damage will only be applied from the item of highest priority.

    1. item 3100 > 2. item 3078 > 3. item 3025 > 4. item 3057
  • UNIQUE Passive: Lifeline is shared by item 3156 and item 3053. If taking the 400-1800 damage for Sterak's Gage also brings health below 30%, the damage type will determine which version of Lifeline will apply. Magic damage will activate Maw of Malmortius, while Physical or True damage will activate Sterak's Gage.
