Why can't a support be balanced around being Midlane too?

Ahristocats··4 votes·1,068 views

Every single support that went mid ended up gutted either mid, or in both lane i don't remember riot having a balanced support in solo lane, and in duo lane

I can play Rubick mid and Support since 3 years and he was never a problem, why isn't it the same case with league of legends, why riot has troubles?

beside, why do they become so frustrating? janna mid was cancer in season 2, lulu negated melees for so many years in solo lane, and soraka.....soraka please

You cant expect LoL players to know Dota champions, #1.

2, there are many supports that can be played midlane, they just wont be your hypercarry. Zilean, Karma, and Zyra can all be played midlane, but they just wont carry as hard as Ryze, Cass, or Victor will. The whole reason one plays a suportive midlaner is to... gasp support! you're role is to support either the ADC or maybe you have a carry top-laner (jayce or fiora) you will not be a carry. Hope this clears it up.

Zilean and karma are actually the only one played there, zyra is trash mid every supports should be like them

I think making an interesting and unique support champ is hard enough without making it a huge priority that they be a solo laner. I'm actually not sure why anyone would care that someone can't multi role. Could you explain that maybe?

Rux1001 votes

Multi-role makes a champion have more priority in a pick and ban phase. Do you remember Ekko before the assassin update?

Ekko could go full AP in the mid-lane and be an assassin. His kit also allowed him to effectively be a tank in the top lane. A champion that can play two roles is nice because for those of us (most of us) with an obvious favorite champion, they could pick a primary and secondary position in draft que and still get the champion they want. Thats one of a few reasons why some want multi-role champions.

Personally I hope they dont make too many multi-role champions, not ones that are effective in both roles anyway. Karma mid is ok but she specializes sup, like orianna sup is ok, but specializes mid. Thats the way it should be... in my opinion.

flex picks are nice for people who main them but in higher level play it makes them much harder to balance because of the advantage they bring your team right from champ select. I also don't think its coincidence that the only time something is being picked consistently in multiple roles is when its horribly overpowered like Ekko and Lulu were. Does Camille getting picked support mid and top in LCS mean that the teams just picked her because she really really fit into their team comp? No they picked her because Riot shat out a horrifying OP abomination and if blue doesn't first pick it purple team will.

Morg can go midlane with decent success.

Morgana is another decent option. But yeah, you're not winning lane super hard, you're just not losing. Sometimes all a team needs is a solid midlaner that won't get roflstomped and do nothing when the enemy mid roams.

Here is a clue, you seem to need one.

Most league players do not care about Dota2.

Next saying cause dota2 does x is a flimsy argument about league balance. Itemization is completely different in each game along with other mechanics.

I personally care for dota for 1 reason.

Also the dota 2 example really falls flat considering there hasn't been a common support pick going mid in dota since Rubick mid fell out of favor literally 5 years ago. Mid lane in dota is even more cutthroat than in league. I'd like to see OP post how many last hits he can get playing CM or SD vs any decent mid laner.

it's still picked in pro wtf is your problem

So...

Who's Rubick? An OC of yours? Sona's OTP?

because riot's support champions are cancerously awful designs except for bard (and even he's kind of bullshit, honestly) , and they're only safe from the sea of salty league players because Riot has gone to HUGE lengths to confine them to a role that gives them the bare minimum of gold

Chønklord3 votes

There's no champ named "Rubick" you fucknut.

I don't know who the fuck Rubick is.

i don't think its anything about the roles specifically its just that in nearly every case so far the supports that have ended up in other roles have been really bad for the game. Nobody wants solo laning janna soraka or lulu to come back and for good reason. Also this whole comparison with Rubick doesn't make much sense considering like Zyra Rubick is also a terrible mid lane pick. You're free to make your shitty special snowflake pick in both league and dota.

Karma is a good example of someone who has been at least decent in both the support role and mid lane role in the long term.

First there are a lot of supports who are picked mid, i'm a rubick otp so i took rubick as an example, then he's still picked in pro mid so go tell miracle to stop playing mid rubick

Mostly because those champions have cancer kits that can't be balanced for both lanes. If they are good in both lanes then they're broken in one of those lanes and will need nerfs that ultimately hurt both playstyles.

Aptest2 votes

**safe ** and resource inexpensive wave clear at early levels

the one thing no champion in mid should have, and all supports who wend mid lane had.

Basically the ability to make their opponent sit under tower and not fight.

BTW, when mid laners show up with the same ability, they also get nerfed around that, see taliah, AoS, Yasuo

This guy just expects League players to know dota characters and expects them to be relevant when talking about balance in League.

Spicy Rice2 votes

It's not that hard to imply its a dota champ. Smite gods are literal gods, and no one plays HoTS.

Ahristocats1 votes

No, if yo u didn't realise** i'm asking a question **

Spicy Rice1 votes

Because in league of legends, supports tend to have kits that aren't very gold reliant, and generally have tools to work with that don't show up on solo champions.

When they have the ability to go into a solo lane, their kits become insanely strong due to them being able to use gold on a kit that already had the ability to work properly without gold. This combined with the utility that isn't normally seen in solo lane champs makes them broken in said solo lane.

I get where you are coming from, but at the end of the day, dota is a different game and you cannot use dota balance logic and apply it to league.

WoonStruck1 votes

Because the utilities in this game are so overabundant and powerful that Riot doesn't know how to balance the different forms of utility, especially when damage is involved as well.
