Every region wants a Wukong rework, but China doesn't, so no rework.

option paralysis··76 votes·17,255 views

Almost any Wukong you ask wants a rework on him, not even neccesarilly a full rework, although he has a lot of potential with his story and skins, but whatever. Only a mini rework would be amazing to make him more skillful and have some sort of a way to actually deal with top lane match ups. Right now (or for the last 2-3 years) he loses like 90% of top lane match ups, and in the jungle you can just invade him all day long, because he's gonna be low hp almost always. That's why he was played mid lane and got a first debut in lcs since season 4. LOL and immediately nerfed 3 times in a row. He has so much potential for a rework and amazing skins, but he's being left in the gutter again after being in it for 4 years.

Of course they don't when the game is built entirely around them.

Cough Shorter games because of their stupid net-cafés cough.

Yes, because people in the us dont have jobs or responsibilities or anything too.

Despite this, I still see lots of people on the Boards wanting longer games.

If you're on the boards alot your probably have a lot of free time.

That is indeed a good point, and the Boards aren't really known for being the majority of the playerbase.

But they're being the most vocal about it.

*most vocal on boards. Boards also thinks no one cares about worlds, whereas people on Twitter/YouTube/Reddit (much larger and much more commenters) will disagree.

I've never seen a single Boards post that says no one cares about Worlds.

However, I have seen plenty of Boards posts saying that Worlds is unhealthy for the game.

China and Korea don't want shorter games because of jobs or obligations. It's because the net cafes sell time in hour long blocks

I think I replied to the wrong post. I meant to reply to the person implying shorter games was desired in Asian regions because people had jobs.

Z3Sleeper3 votes

I could care less about longer or shorter. I just want balanced.

I think I actually prefer current game times. Longer than this sounds obnoxious. I don't need farm phase to last any longer and I don't need "first team to have someone get caught loses" phase to be any longer either.

lol it is, they said it somewhere, too lazy to find it but they did.

They didnt. They said they moved him down in priority, not that hes not getting one.

Pokemonred20016 votes

Reav3 said this a few months ago I believe. He said they loved him enough to warrant delaying his rework, but it won't stop them from eventually giving him one (He cited XinZhao at the time, who China also loved the prior iteration of, but they gave him a mini-rework eventually and it was generally well-received)

Terozu5 votes

Actually it was stated only NA really wanted one wasn't it? China didn't want one and noone else cares.

"The thing about Wukong is that we used to only be able to get survey and data from players in Riot regions, and in NA/EU he is highly requested for a update. This made us put him high on our update list. A couple years ago though we started getting data from China as well. In China he is extremely popular and not anywhere close to highly requested for a update as most players there love his kit. This made us re-think his priority on our list as we have to think about all our players globally when we prioritize updates. While our NA/EU players would be happy with a Wukong update, it comes at a very high risk of just upsetting and confusing many players in China who wouldn't understand why we are updating a Champion like Wukong who they view as a great Champion."

So they pushed him down the list, and we have the list of the next 20 champs and wukong is not even on it. So if max 5-6 champs per year get a rework, then you know when wukong is gonna get one. "Just wait 5 years bruh cmon".

That doesn't mean "he's not getting a rework".

The difference between Wukong and, say, Urgot or Galio or Yorick is that Wukong has a fairly high playrate and thus is someone people do enjoy playing. Riot's reworks are often aimed at A.) Champs who have fallen to the wayside or B.) Champs who have extremely outdated kits. It's why Yorick got a rework before pantheon: Despite being younger than Pantheon, less people played Yorick and he was in an overall worse spot.

Wukong does need a rework. He's still getting one. But he also has a pretty high playrate which means that you have to be more careful about reworking him. Also to address the incoming "bUt wHuT aBouT aAtrOx!?" comment: Aatrox only recently became meta after his rework was slated almost a year in advance. Bad timing, not that his design was in a good spot. (Argue about the new one as you wish).

boricCentaur114 votes

Im almost positive that they play him just because he is named wukong and not because of he's kit.

I play him because of his kit.

Pika Fox10 votes

Hes still getting a rework, just not at an immediate priority as they explore why hes popular there and see what they can do about it.

GayFluffyUnicorn3 votes

And? What is this bullshit? A shitty design doesn't get reworked cuz its popular?

Pika Fox3 votes

Hes still getting a rework, just more time and thought needs to be put into it and the list of champions that also need a rework badly still exists.

GelsominoKiller4 votes

Oh please, wukong's design ain't so shitty as you make it out to be. His kit is very old and outdated and it shows, but he's far from being one of the worst offenders.

Do you want go come and tell me with a straight face that Wukong deserves a rework more than Mordekaiser, Pantheon, Mundo?

He's not only among the most needed, he ain't one of the most requested either (China is a large share of the playerbase and so its opinion has rightfully a weight, even if you might not like it).

So I don't think wukong players are in the position to demand a rework so impatiently.

That said, Wukong is sitting in the land of the forgotten, he sure deserves some gameplay changes to inject back some viability (his clone stunning champions and monsters before disappearing, maybe some of his dmg increased if the clone is damaged... For sure he should not get more front loaded damage).

More than Mundo, yes. Mundo isn't nearly as problematic as any of those champions.

Chembaron Yamada4 votes

Mundo is rightfully really high on Riots priority list. I mean, come on, he has probably one of the most outdated kits in the entire game.

His passive is literally just an increased stat: I have more health regen than other guys.... wow. His W, E, and R are all passive effects (glorified sunfire cape, more damage, more health regen) which he can activate on demand. He needs an update badly and I am glad that Riot confirmed that he is high on the priority list. Most likely will get his rework next year, alongside Mordekaiser.

TotalJerk2 votes

His passive is a percentage. It scales with his actual health unlike normal base regen. The fact that he has extremely high health regen is a significant part of his play pattern as well.

EyesOfTheFox4 votes

He's probably popular there more so because he's based on Sun Wukong from Journey to the West which was a 16th century Chinese novel deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy and religion. He's basically THE Chinese champion. So I'd imagine just due to the historical context of the champion himself he will continue to be popular in that region regardless of any future rework. There have even been two big budget Chinese cinema films within the last decade titled "The Monkey King" & "The Monkey King 2" which, you guessed it, are about Sun Wukong and the tales from Journey to the West, his champion name in China is even listed and appears in game as "Sun Wukong". The Infernal Wukong skin is also a direct reference to his story in Journey to the West when he was placed in a cauldron for being a bad monkey. He then learned to control his rage and broke free from the cauldron in a fiery blaze.

Pika Fox1 votes

Which requires research to see if thats the case, and if so, what can be done to improve upon it.

EyesOfTheFox2 votes

I'd say just rework him anyway, as I don't see that killing his popularity there. He also doesn't get played in pro play to my knowledge so I'm sure it's just the fact that he is The Monkey King as to why he is popular. I too would be interested in the actual reasoning though as that is just my best educated guess. Perhaps they could do one of those many in client surveys they love so much to find out~ Besides we know Riot doesn't care about how popular a champion or role is unless it comes to selling skins. I mean Riot murdered marksmen and their popularity (number of people queueing for bot lane dropped significantly because of it), so being popular does not protect a champion or group of champions from a rework. He also isn't the worst champion in the game (I personally think he's fine other than his passive).

Pika Fox3 votes

Again, hes still getting a rework.

PowerSlave9935 votes

The game is built entirely on China/Korea stuff and servers. The whole game is theirs, their rules, they do what they want. Riot is now just a logo and nothing else.

Eversince China has taken over the game, it has fallen to shit. But i guess money is better.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

It is so true and you see it with other games too. Pubg for example. That KNOWS 90% of cheaters come from asian servers and they rather piss off everyone else than implement region lock because tencent overlord. And the moment riot got fully taken over by tencent the slow transformation into this money milking machine has started

PowerSlave9931 votes

If people were only satisfied with their own game, with their own income of each month, it would be hell better. But noooo, let's sell our soul, our company and our people to China because they offer glory and money. Forget about gameplay, etc.

This is happening to most games. Also for Pubg you are totally right, there are so many hackers and they are all from Asia.

Did you notice how Riot has become greedy again? Constantly dropping skins that are 1380 RP cost, jsut putting more and more skins so they get more money. Lol

League would be better game if it was sold to EA shit. At least, game balance would be better if not anything...
