So what doesn't Sylas have ?

option paralysis··24 votes·14,239 views

Not even saying he's broken or whatever... I was just looking at someone playing him and he literally has everything in his kit. AA enhance, shield, healing, slow, knock up, mobility and not to mention that he can steal your ult so he's basically a better version of your champ if he steals your ult.

I don't see what's the weakness here ? Why shouldn't you pick him in every situation ?

Wrists that aren't cramped.

He has ok/lowish damage.

An awkward situational heal.

A really strong shield, with a mediocre knock up thats so short you barely realize it happens.

I like how simple and straight forward it is, even if it sounds like a lot on paper.

Also his mobility his bad when it comes to escaping ganks. His engaging is strong, but he can't go back without enemy assistance, like Yasuo

Velzard of Koz1 votes

So like... Every traditional diver...

LTK KoRo1 votes

Not really. Divers like J4 or Vi for example can easily avoid ganks with their mobility skills. Sylas can only do an one aatrox-tier dash.

I know that most of the divers can't get out if they commit to a fight, but Sylas can't escape from bad situations even with his spells up

i played against a sylas today as ADC, 1 of his Q's shredded about 90% of my HP. "ok/lowish damage" [sg-ahri-1]

Galiö1 votes

I guess if he had 650 AP, was level 12 and you were level 8 that woulda happened.

Genius.

He tends to not have synergy with the ults that he takes, mainly a counter to champions who are ult reliant...

Imo he punishes champions like malphite and amumu so hard, if they build tank then their ults will be much weaker than his (since he builds ap by default) and they wont be able to even do anything after they ult while he can. So they are almost 100% forced to build full damage against sylas just to make their ults as meaningful.

Sure sylas only has this affect on a minority of tanky engage champions that tend to want to build damage anyway because building tank on them is so bad, but its still alittle irritating that there is now another reason for them to not build tank.

Indeed, like Illaoi, where you use her ult and can't do anything with it. or Darius, use his ult and only deal like 150 damage.

3TWarrior1 votes

100 + 75% ap to 300 + 75% ap in true damage at that while resetting. Illaoi does have high base damages with it and if it's like other ults, his kit might change to suit it

How are you gonna apply blood stacks for that boosted/true damage?

3TWarrior1 votes

those are the base damages

while I doubt riot will give him darius's abilities to add to it, those base damages + 20/40/60 damage per stack and 15% AD per stack

While darius can apply statcks, AP values tend to be about twice AD values if glass cannon or bruiser

so the damage for darius is 200 + 150% bonus AD to 600 + 150% AD

so sylas's are 100 + 75% ap - 300 + 75% ap

as a comparison, for ziggs, the level 6 value of his ultimate is (200 - 300) + (73% - 110%) AP.

it's debatable what kind of kit he would be best stealing from, but I suppose it would depend upon if they built any magic resist at all, whether he needs range, etc

Dewott6101 votes

or kai sai's ult because without a teammate kai sai I don't think he has a way of applying plasma and that'll never happen in anything thats not blind pick

Arakadia1 votes

Kaisa can apply plasma with w and auto attacks.

Dewott6101 votes

I'm saying sylas can't do it on his own, someone in a game I was in was asking how to do it but couldn't really

Poop Johnson2 votes

He can get stacks just like Kai'sai can, with his AAs and with nearby CC.

Dewott6101 votes

really? I would've thought he tried everything after getting it like 3 times and asking on the third time, huh

He doesn't really have range.

Ults fit champion kits, just stealing the ult doesn't make him a better version of you. Plus you can make a list like that of every single champion in the game and make it sound OP.

Oleandervine4 votes

He's squishy, and at current overtuned. Making blanket assessments when a champion has been out for what, 2 days, is making too many assumptions on things that will change.

He's basically like Diana, a nimble, fragile AP fighter who relies on his healing and shielding to not die instantly when he goes in. I don't really understand why people keep acting like his kit is off the charts, when it has a lot of the same elements as her kit, or even others like Ahri, Ekko, Nocturne, Elise.

Abibyama II4 votes

That's not literally everything

CC is his weakness Alistar, Lulu, Soraka(Silence), Thresh anyone with super hard CC.

The cc paradox...

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

the shy top1 votes

How's it a paradox?

floo2 votes

Because it applies to all champs and is therefore no individual counterplay. Yi for example doesn't have much except "cc him" either (maybe terrain zoning but very situational).

hrooza dota 1 votes

Leona Chogath Alistar those are some champs i play and ... i dont see a reason to CC those in a team fight compared to say an assassin or a yi

yes you can CC any champ but it dont work the same with every champ yi can die easily from 1 CC because he cant life steal with attacks and he is close to you so its easier to CC him.

tho im not sure if CC is a good counter vs sylas ya he die fast but he also do his combo fast and a strong shield

floo1 votes

What does preference have to do with counterplay? Besides you can blackshield most of their cc, they can also be interrupted by cc and killed while stunned. Cc is a universal tool, not counterplay.

hrooza dota 1 votes

thats not preference its legit counter play because yi is way easier to CC and way easier to kill then a lot of champs if CCed since some champs are way to tanky to focus first and some champs play save (or should be played save but the players go melee range with them for some reason). black shield is another champ that counter CC in general which mean they did a simple team combo that you have to deal with it with a little team work. also a lot of stuff are universal does not mean they have the same effect everygame on the fights for example iginte is a general damage summoner but also a tool to counter healing champs like soraka.

floo2 votes

way easier to cc

doubt, Yi Q or QSS But that aside, grievous wounds are not universal. On champs like Zac, Vlad or Soraka they have tremendous effect, on for example Shen it doesn't make a difference. CC on the other hand effectively stops the ability of the player to take part in the game. You can apply that to every single champion.

hrooza dota 1 votes

Q is also his gap closing so you can just stun after he Q not as soon as you see him coming

QSS is an item that he build to counter what counter him aka CC after all he is a human who can think.

CC dont work the same vs any char some are completely immune like olaf and some cant give a shit if stuned because their effects is still up its no diff then grievous if you think of it. some are extremely weak to CC while some are tanky as hell to care about CC

floo1 votes

I'm not gonna lead this into a Yi discussion, a player who know's what he's doing can deal with a lot as Yi.

It does work the same against everyone. Some buy tenacity or in this case, you have 1 out of 144 champions that is completely immune to it for like 6s? The premise still stands, you effectively take a player out of the game for some time. Reducing that time or cancelling it doesn't matter.

hrooza dota 1 votes

whatever i put my point that CC is diff between a champ and another as taking some time of a tank mean nothing when they still will use their shit 100% the time

Fízz v23 votes

he doesnt have range or non-clunky spells except maybe W lul

and he doesnt have damage to oneshot unless he is ahead

Moody P18 votes

but all his spells are ranged

Arakadia5 votes

So are Illaois tbf. Both are low ranged even if Sylas is more mobile.

Rysophage3 votes

he's not tanky honestly. No way out once he gets in, fairly weak laner tbh, his jungle clear is pretty shit early. when fighting him if you can dodge his E just shit on him after. he has no way of getting in after that. He's NUTS late game but his early is kinda bad.

CrazyMonkeyCZ2 votes

So pick him in every situation, I want to see results.

Dalick2 votes

He does not have damage. he also doesnt have a winrate. He is so bad that he is the worst champion upon release in the history of league. actualyl read winrates. they matter. He needs a MASSIVE buff to even be playable.

He's literally been out for 2 days. Of course his stats are non-existent or completely skewed because there's not enough data to reliably draw from.

Dalick1 votes

Yes, but that still doesn't mean he has the lowest winrate in the histroy of the game UPON release. For instance. Xin Zhao was the highest in history, with a 67% winrate or some shit. Slyas is the lowest. There is no excuse on not enough data, he is not going to go from a 18-50ish% with time. at most he his 30% by the end of the week.and after a month, if not buffed. no higher than 35%.

Moody P4 votes

38% is not the lowest, Syndra was in the 20s on release and Bard was low 30s

14daysuspensionk2 votes

Healthy jungle clears. Seriosuly, I tried him in the jungle and all you can do is auto your buff to death.

counterplay

Naalith3 votes

Yeah besides the fact you can dodge his (0.5 second) stun, the fact he is melee which means other mages can kill him before he gets to them, the fact that he does substantially less damage than other mages and AP champions don't have good tanky optimization which is what it feels like he needs. Not to mention the fact that his ultimate is just someone else's ultimate except with bad synergy with his kit so you could just pick a character who needs other spells to make their ult function like Zoe, Brand, LeBlanc, etc. into him to just annihilate him.

If the meta didn't revolve around everyone one shotting each other Sylas would probably be OP, but he just kinda gets melted despite having so much built into his kit to survive.
