Some changes Pyke absolutely needs

The Ecdysiast··1 votes·884 views

The recent changes to Pyke are bar none the most heavy-handed changes to force a champion to build as intended that Riot has ever done, compared to the usual case of buffing scaling while lowering base so damage dealers can't just build pure tank (such as with Ekko, Fizz, and now Viktor). These changes hit his early game really hard, since as a support he isn't going to be getting the lethality he needs until later than most other assassins, while his stun was nerfed to force its total duration into lethality instead of ability rank.

However, the changes also leave room to buff him where he actually needs it without worrying he'll just stack pure defense. Not in his damage, but in his mechanics. Namely how his Q functions overall.

He should be allowed to charge his Q while remaining cloaked, only being revealed when the throw animation begins. The enemies already have plenty of warning from his W that they need to watch for him in this situation, and to use it from cloak he'd have to be far enough to do the lower-damage pull instead of the stab. So this would only serve to balance out the disadvantages presented by his W and Q.

and/or

The pull length should be set at the max distance as soon as it registers that you're holding for the pull instead of the stab, instead of requiring you to hold it longer for the full distance. As it is, it gives any enemy you didn't already stun far too long to prepare if you attempt a max-range pull.

Granted, with any suggestion regarding mechanics comes the possibility that it ends up being far and above compensating for recent nerfs. But if that happens... they could simply nerf his damage back down.

I think charging his Q while stealthed would be so overpowered and insanely frustrating to play against. I really enjoy Pyke, but I think that would be bad for him.

Think about it this way:

It would function pretty much the same as Evelynn's engage. His W will warn the enemy that he's nearby and invisible, and he then has to wait about the same time as she does to throw out his ability that forces enemies toward him.

he doesnt need buffs especially not pulling from stealth, the nerfs are specifically so he isnt low risk high reward anymore and actually able to be punished early game without just getting his entire hp bar back

Yes, yes they are.

But even when he could, his performance was still poor. What I'm suggesting are changes that can help his performance without making him safer--- and they'd allow for further nerfs to the aspects that make him unfun to deal with.

if they were to say do the stealth pull he would defintely need some kind of charge up on his w

The "charge up" on his W is the first 15-20 minutes of the game wherein it's now half the speed, and the fact it now recovers less health. If you were to nerf his W further, you'd need to make it Invisibility instead of just a Cloak, so he can get in range to pop-Q or E.

Both suggestions completely remove counterplay from pykes kit so i would say no bad very ideas.

Pyke was intended as a glass cannon assassin support not a Frontline assassin which should not even be a thing.

But... they don't. That's like saying Blitz has no counterplay because he doesn't have to charge his Q.

And I outlined it perfectly for someone else: it'd function exactly like Evelynne's engage. His W warns you like hers, then he throws the Q like she does. There's nothing broken about it.

To pretend it's fair that he has to charge up a shorter range pull that is both shorter in its distance and doesn't pull you all the way, especially when he was just nerfed, is ridiculous.

It's one thing to struggle against Pyke yourself due to poor positioning. It's another to pretend he's doing fine when he's been performing poorly since release even with the defense build.

I personally think this makes Pyke more healthy than before, and he certainly does not need those buffs you suggested

Well... that's a major problem with the boards. People "think" something that's directly opposed to the evidence. There's a big difference between an unpopular opinion and one that ignores evidence.

Pyke building defense wasn't abusing base stats like other cases, it was simply better than his intended build. But both were still sub-par. The recent change wasn't a buff to his intended build, it was a force into his intended build. It is better than before, but it isn't better than the defense he was building before.

He has never been unhealthy, because he has never been performing well. And it's a problem with his mechanics rather than his scaling.
