I am a Nasus player. I've played Nasus since season 2. I've got thousands of games on him.

HateDaddy··45 votes·13,762 views

Putting a sheer number on it is hard to do, but just know I've played him in practically every match-up imaginable. Nasus is entirely knowledge-based, and understanding the nuances of match-ups. Nasus isn't mechanically difficult, but overcoming his weaknesses is very difficult given his low-skill playstyle doesn't merit very high rewards. Nevertheless, I've managed to overcome that greatly. Despite my sub 50% winrate on him on this server at the moment (but something absurd like 70-80% on LAN), I'm actually doing well - I am just stuck in plat 3 losing promo series constantly. Keep everything in mind, because I wanted to preface it with this..

I just played against a Tahm Kench. And none of that mattered. None of it. Every piece of information I have was irrelevant. This player could literally violate the basics of the game: ignore creep damage, ignore cooldowns, ignore mana costs, ignore management of anything, ignore jungle pressure, ignore sustain battles - he could ignore it all. Nothing mattered. I even killed him at level 3 or 4! He walks up, presses buttons on me and I die. I do not get to play the game. I do not get to farm. I do not get to to be part of my team. I am then proceeded to be flamed endlessly, even though I did the absolute best I could to stay even in farm. I even get flamed by the tahm player himself - which is fine, I really do not mind casual shit talk. But Tahm is a fucking crutch for bad top laners. End of discussion - and no, I'm not calling this guy a bad top laner. But he clearly did not even need to care for match-up knowledge or nuances: he just played a champion that is so over-fucking-statted right now that my 3 year old could play him and probably climb higher than me right now.

I am sorry, but what in the actual fuck is this? I really do try to refrain from attacking people in their professions. I'm someone in the process of honing my own profession and earning my degree. I do not take pleasure in this, because I've even run into Meddler a few times in solo queue and he's honestly the sweetest guy. [removed by moderation] This is a complete absolute abomination. And this has gone on for what, 3 patches now? This champion does not need tweaks, he needs to be buried into the ground. Nobody actually mains Tahm, because he doesn't have a kit. Nothing about him is fun or interesting save for his ult. Everything about him is boring and mundane. And you shove him in top laner, give him the ability to win any lane and then basically just ignore the community. I have seen people on boards, reddit, Facebook, and twitter complain about Tahm top.

Riot, this has to end. It really does. Moderators, I also realize this borders on a rant and isn't the ideal place for gameplay posts. But Rioters need to see this. This is someone, a 7+ year customer of your services that still enjoys this game telling you he is not satisfied with your product at all. I have a lot of problems with Riot right now for obvious reasons, but I really did not want to have to start having disdain for the balancing/gameplay portion of their team that likely isn't responsible for all of the media related shenanigans taking place right now. But here I am. I am being honest, this was the absolute most unfun game I've ever had in thousands of games, thousands of hours. I have never had a worst experience than what I had tonight. I am pleading with you to please end this madness and dumpster this fucking champion until you can come up with an actual kit for him.

Thank you.

Yeah... tahm is a pretty unfunny matchup for anyone. If you don't have jungle pressure, expect a bad time. I agree fully, he's way outta line in the solo lanes and it doesn't really take any sort of brains to play him. Nothing worse than a braindead champ that's way outta line. I even see it in silver and to say the least, I'd rather face a fed Darius than a tahm simply because he is so atrocious right now.

Sad but true unless you or the jungler have cc or anti tank utility.

He was always pain it the a.. on top lane and riot managed to contain him on bot but no adc community cant have it that there is support who can counter this pull/grab/stun fiesta and actualy save his teammate so riot kick him from bot to top lane. Funny thing is his gamepatter isnt diferent from darius get near stack passive kill nothing fancy there but tahm works great against rest of top overbearing champions and riot is probably happy with that.

Eonslegacy1 votes

it wasnt because of bot laners, it was that he invalidated all mid laners and jgs and tops, he actually sucked vs most bot laners do to sustained ranged damage and alot of supports could interrupt his 3 stacks. problem was zed would hahahhaha into an adc just to see the tahm eat her from over a wall and flash under his turret, ghost to his second turret before spitting her out. while alos having 6k health with 1 item.

I wouldnt say he sucks but he was not great in term of actual fight but that wasnt my point. As you mentioned he has power to actualy save his teammate mostly from enemy bot engages, yes he can deny zed kill or stop jung in his tracks but thats whole point of support, keep his teamates alive (now is not about supporting but damaging or be cc bot). He has nothing else in his kit to support his adc, no shield, no heal, no boost just devour but and its my personal opinion when support works assassins mains lost their mind because its no longer free kill and this mentality of i must always get kill irks me. Supports get nerfed in every part of supporting and changed from defense to offense mod ant outside top elo players utilising utility to win more then damage just fraction of players go with something like solary, or ardent etc. damage is too high and this items just lost value and 10% bonus to heal shield is just too little especialy if better ap item give you same power with better offense capabilities. Dont you see? supporting isnt anymore about keeping alive by shielding or healing but geting kills because best defense is dead opponent.

If tahm destroys your nasus early, what do you do vs the real hard counters like Kennen Jayce Viktor... You know, all those people that simply don't let you even stay under your tower without dying as nasus early?

They’re gankable, you can build against them better, rely heavily on mana (jayce and viktor) and can be itemized against. They’re also easy to kill once you get on top of them. Jayce is the only one that I consider really hard of those 3, Kennen and Viktor are moderate.

Eonslegacy1 votes

tahm eats everything for breakfast rn, kennens autos are mitaigatable via the resolve tree and dorans shield and such, jayce is a pain but lifesteal/ganks can make him oom before he can win, and you CAN E max those. Viktor got nerfed for being a pain tahm hasnt.

Crispy0Snake4 votes

I mean you can remove it from the game yourself by banning it all the time

Nasus is really weak early. We both know that. Tahm Kench is really strong early. When he hits 6 though, he doesn't have a fighting ult, and if he builds offensively you can bop him down

Early on as Nasus it literally doesn't matter that you lose a few cs at all, as long as you stack okay under tower. No one is going to see you losing in CS vs Tahm and say "Nasus not winning lane xD". You're expected to lose in cs early on. It's okay to concede the lane sometimes (so long as you still stack enough)

And dude, your laner could have been playing Yi top. Your jungler is Gold and their Jungler is an 81% winrate Nidalee smurf https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=Sogek%C4%B1ng

Eonslegacy1 votes

He is saying that he played safe and never got stronger than the tahm at any point. Nor would he ever. Tahm has beaten master yis before in 1v1s post 6 items. Dude... is BROKEN.

Thorongil4 votes

Everything about him is boring and mundane. ... You can say it about Nasus as well. Well I disagree with your statement. When you play Tham, not only that you can beat your enemies, you can also eat them. That is hella funny. Of course fun is one sided but that is common thing in this game.

In hindsight it’s what I’ll have to do. But it means I’ll just make myself useless by 20 minutes too. E max basically admits you won’t farm Q until 40+, and most games don’t go thy long.

Anu3isII1 votes

If you E max, wouldn't split pushing be the best strat? If you can't contribute in teamfights, at least force someone to camp you. And I don't think Tahm will be as bad once you get some items.

HateDaddy4 votes

Yeah he is. The problem is that even if you can shove, once you extend past a certain point he can just chase you down. And since you Max E, you only have good all-in damage and he can just disengage any of your all-ins. Like I said, I still think the E max would be better because it’d at least create pressure. But it would come at the expense of my scaling, and it would make the game be dependent upon my team - which is what I try to avoid depending on.

Ifneth1 votes

Also, Tahm Kench falls off so hard and quickly that, if Nasus survives lane, he can split-push with Trinity Force regardless of whether he maxed E or Q.

Also, might this build work?

Sorcery: Comet, Manaflow Band, Transcendence, Scorch Inspiration: Biscuits, Approach Velocity

Iceborn Gauntlet, Treads, Deadman’s Plate

E-Max with Comet and Scorch to pressure Tahm out of lane, sustaining your mana with Band + Biscuits. Approach Velocity makes Wither much stronger and later combines with Iceborn Gauntlet and Deadman’s Plate to help catch Tahm.

Eonslegacy1 votes

No, he doesnt. and thats the problem with him right now. HE doesnt fall off at all with the W shield OR heal mechanic COMBINED with the save mechanic COMBINED wtih the gank mechanic COMBINED with the base damage. He is like pantheon, if pantehons w said, grab an ally and dash 2k units OR stun an enemy unit. Like he is SUPER busted at all stages,Wits end tahm is disgusting late game.

Ifneth1 votes

Quit shouting. Once Nasus has Trinity Force or Iceborn Gauntlet, he can splitpush against Tahm Kench who could, at most, hope the jungler comes to save him because only dedicated splitpushers can stop Susan by then.

Tahm has to put Nasus so behind early that he just lacks the gold and experience needed to splitpush.

Eonslegacy1 votes

Mate, tahm eats nasus all day at all stages, wither is weaker at all stages than tahms slow, tahms q does more than nasus pretty much ever will do because nasus is laning vs tahm. If nasus has an item nasus was allowed to farm and thats not ok since tahm can turret dive nasus lvl 3 and on. No Tahms tha strongest laner, and duelist for most of the game now. Its not a kit thing its a numbers thing. tahm just wins. Susan lost a lot of power when they made lifesteal capped on damage done, since shielded damage isnt damage done technically, and minions are last hit at low hp, so susan really cant win that lane. Eventually maybe he wins if tahm doesnt use his lead with that semi global dash, but thats just a bad tahm. Ive beaten bad tahms before, they get a lead then dont use it efficiently. Titanic hydra works wonders for his pushing demolish for turrets, so on.

Anu3isII1 votes

Fair enough. I agree with you that Tahm is a pain and that the E-Max play style relies greatly on how your teammates play around you. I hope Riot will consider looking at him again.

Well, why not go sustain runes? Tahm into Nasus is really good for the nasus.

Eonslegacy1 votes

about as good as yorick is for darius.

Eonslegacy1 votes

you cant beat him in a 1v1 so you cant split as he defeats taht purpose. you cant hit the turret and you cant beat his W pASSIVE heal.

Anu3isII1 votes

You force him to camp your lane and you will inevitably get some stacks (at a much slower rate). The idea isn't to duel him, it is to keep him in place and let your team 4v4 or make him lose CS under tower until you scale enough to beat him. If you can't duel him for most of the game and he is better in Teamfights, then at least keep him occupied or make him lose gold.

Eonslegacy1 votes

Why camp lane, when you can turret dive nasus, take turret plates and turret, turret dive enemy jg, take turret and keep pushing till their mid reacts. Tahm is really really strong, nasus (tho he got his power curved toward early game 3 times) isnt on his level. you cant push a titanic tahm under tower, and you cant win vs him, and you cant farm safely as susan, susans not a good matchup not because susan doesnt do the things required to beat tahm, but because tahm doesnt care :( he is just over tuned

Yeah, it's like people just don't understand that the answer to top lane cancer is just play more cancer like vayne seriously stomps the heck out of every melee like tahm does but actually scales hmmm tough choices

Eonslegacy1 votes

Tahms q 4 second cd, 45% cdr lowers this to 2.6, it stuns for 1.5 at 3 stacks, leaving 1.1 seconds of not stunned however it still slows for 2 outa the 2.6 seconds for 70% move speed.... so .6 seconds to dodge the q, good luck with that.... also if you DO, he will just W you spit you out after 3 seconds then land the q instantly anyway. The BIGGEST problem with tahm kench is he is a champion that has 2 damage abilities, 1 of which is HIGHLY situational. His E is REALLY broken by design having over 99% max health scaling, or as little as 1% for things like teemo poisons. pyke passive but slightly worse at the cost of no health punishment, however, you can pop it for the instant shield which means no assassin will ever kill you That move SHOULD take up most of his power budget, but it takes up less than Wukongs passive seems to.

Eonslegacy1 votes

stomps is a very very bad word to use when your describing a matchup that revolves around someone having to dodge 100% of all spells of another while harassing and farming for over 5 minutes to eventually maybe end up with a kill maybe. She out scales him, she doesnt STOMP him he just doesnt stomp her.

Eonslegacy1 votes

might actualy work if you can dodge all the qs with your own. Mobility is tahms 1 and only weakness so if your good enough and dont get ganked that could really do what is needed.

I only have a 50% wr right now because early season I played really bad and was 10-15 games below .500. Plus I’m trapped in a promo series loop right now. I get in, go 1-2, rinse and repeat. For reference, for practically the same skill level, you can see this as a true reference as to how well I’ve actually been playing lately:

we bitch about certainlyt champs but tahm kench might just be the biggest failure in champ design in half a decade

at least akali has skill expression and stuff like that. at least yasuo requires some level of mechanical ability to get the most out of his overloaded kit. Tahm Kench just destroys you for existing in the same lane as him as a melee champion, and he's only doing that because his support role had to be destroyed as who could have thought a walking Zhonyas with a global that has 2 health bars would warp competitive play

this is literally a nasus main telling you that nasus isnt as useless early as they like to make him out to be but you guys focused on some one who only has an early game being strong early who has no ult until level 11 his level 6 ult doesnt even take him half of his lane.

Eonslegacy1 votes

Riot made nasus broken early mid and late with the right play style, he is saying that even with an R that has 3 paragraphs of description, and infinite scaling that starts out with really high base damage, he STILL cant win a 1v1 with likatounge.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Nasus is strong with enemies sitting in his q for armor shred and as you said during his R because of 3 paragraphs of description. No tahm straight up fights Nasus during his ult. Frankly a W max may better than an E max for Nasus versus a Tahm but people would never accept that because Mah damage.

Hey,

I removed the bit about Rioter's jobs. We like to make this forum a welcoming place for everyone, and calling for Rioters jobs falls short of that goal.

I think otherwise, that this is a good Gameplay post, not meant for Rant, but I could also see it being posted there.

Riot does have a single top lane player on their balance team, so they have idea of the top lane experience and just assume it's 2 wet noodle tanks.

It's not just TahmKench. You should see Garen. It's literally just run up to me, press q, spin, around me till minions are dead and I'm forced to tower. Repeat over and over. Get me low enough. Flash ignite Q. and watch me die. It's bs at early levels because I can't do much.

It was a fine post until that "personal" attacks on people who main tahm kench, with the extra bit of irony of you maining Nasus, who many would argue is just as much "mundane".

Your post would be much stronger if you left out personal grudges and focused on balancing, which you're right about.

nasus player complaining about tahm kench...

Yes, tahm isn't healthy for top lane right now. Nasus is not in a healthy state either. His ult is way too strong and he spikes way too early now and is too safe in lane for a champ with that ridiculous 90% movement and AS slow and the infinite stacking mechanic.

Made this comment on Tham BEFORE he was even buffed for TOP or gutted from support:

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/llFpXOXF-so-kench-is-just-a-toplaner-now-right?comment=0006

Read it, chew it, etc.

He just invalidates most melee top laners (if not all) and got buffed afterwards. So, yeah, that'ss the kind of North Korea League we have today. Not being dramatic, just being real.

On other notes, I am not quite sure why are you picking Nasus top after reaching Plat. There are better picks man. If you are trying to prove something, Nasus and Garen are the worst ways of doing so.
