Why are people comparing Rumble and Lux's ults?

Clint Orris··15 votes·1,514 views

At max level, Lux's ults deals 500 + 75% AP in a straight line.

Rumble's ult deals 1200 + 150% fucking AP over 5 seconds with a 35% slow which can be fired in any fucking direction in any fucking point from any fucking point within range.

The wave clearing potential of rumble with his ult 300 times more effective than lux will ever be at every stage of the game.

The big difference is that Lux's damage is applied instantly and Rumbles is damage over time. While Rumble's ult does do more damage, it has to be aimed properly and it was never really intended to be wasted clearing waves. Against Champions, Lux's is superior most of the time since, once again, the damage is applied all at once. If you ever get hit by more than two ticks of Rumble's ult, you are doing something wrong.

That's why people are complaining, if anything Lux's ult should have the longer CD.

I love how you're forgetting to add that Rumble's ult is one of the biggest game changers in the game with its utility. You're forgetting to add how Lux's ult is more effective if combo'd in with her other spell because there's a one second fucking warning showing where her laser will hit. You're only able to say "omg she does instant damage" while Rumble's ult does so much fucking more. I'm not trying to downplay lux or anything but it's just fact.

Lugg3 votes

I do understand that Rumble's ult can be the bigger game changer. However, Lux's ult is pretty hard to miss with since the hitbox is about 1/3 of the lane and in a teamfight it's very hard to see the warning red line. Even pro players have trouble landing the Rumble ult in the right place, so regular players miss with it all the time.

XeroKimo1 votes

1/3rd of the lane? I doubt that, it's more 1/4th of the lane, I find that the range indicator feels slightly bigger than it's actual width of effect,

Rumble ult with 40% cdr is 60 seconds, lux with 40% cdr is 30 seconds

Except rumble doesn't scale well with CDR given his passive.

Yes.Because Lux ult can do double damage at the same time.

Old Man Teeto9 votes

Rumble never builds CDR.

In fact, CDR typically screws up heat management causing you to fight worse.

Darkwind3 votes

I mean let's take this another direction. Lux doesn't build 45% cdr. Most frequent build has only 20%l highest winrate has 25%. You'd have to swap sorcs for lucidity and take CDR glyphs to get to 45%, which people mostly don't do. So its more like 37.5 second CD, aka at least 33%.

And even then we've made tradeoffs to get that CDR, tradeoffs Rumble doesn't take. We've given up pen in masteries and 20+ AP + other stats in choosing to build Morello/Grail. So even if you say that rumble doesn't build CDR, it's not a fair comparison to say Rumble's ult is 100 seconds CD and Lux's is anything other than 50, because RUmble will be doing more damage, getting more tankiness, ect, in exchange for that increased CD.

Angry Monster1 votes

careful, the use of logic on these boards is punishable by massive down votes from the masses. Also including name calling and assertions that you are a salty main.

Darkwind1 votes

It's k, downvotes don't bother me or convince me that I'm wrong. Only logic can do that.

Also, I pretty much always make logical posts/comments here. So I'm pretty used to it.

Ezreal is because he got far lower than intended Ult cooldown coming from a buff that he got.

And Talon using his ult for wave clear? That's just plain stupid.

Dreadlocks1 votes

You must not play talon much lol.

Magus Polaris1 votes

No, that's just a stupid use of the cooldown.

People do it with Lux, old Lucian's ult CD, Ezreals, Maokai etc.. Its not a stupid use at all.

Because Lux is the current champ in Gameplay's "Rito completely sucks because Champion X is OP and no nerfs so that means I'm right and Rito sucks" meme argument or whatever you want to call it.

So everything is evidence that champion is OP and so they can blame Riot for whatever.

It's nothing new. They'll get distracted and go back to complaining about Fiora or Riven or whatever new champion the wheel lands on.

I had to write that in a thread where they were comparing her ult to Talon. Talon, of all champions.

no, the waveclearing potential of rumble isn't really higher than luxs, as it doesn't matter how much more damage his ult can deal if Luxs already is enough to vaporize the entire wave. It's not like overkilling a minion wave will transfer the remaining damage to the next wave spawning or something...

More on the subject: Rumble got his ult cd nerfed back when he was strong 'because he could use it for waveclear and still have it up for nearly eveyr major fight' And lux currently is pretty opressive, and she uses her ult rather frequently for waveclear while still haveing it up every fight.

So people complain about lux because her kit is rather bulshit to go against while she is simply to strong atm, so they want nerfs. And since Lux has the exact same pattern that got rumbles ult cd nerfed, many jump to the conclusion that nerfing her ult cd thus would be a good idea.

I think the ult cd would be a bad spot to nerf her, haveing a rather spamable longrange snipe is imo an important part of her identity. I think the main problem is how easy her E is to land, how strong her Q is since the buff, and mostly how much tankiness she gets from her shield. As a champ with that much cc and range, she should atleast be squishy if you get to her, but she simply isn't.

How is low CD apart of her identity? She should have a snipe but not on a low CD. Long range ults should be long CD such as ziggs or xerath.

See I think we're both seeing it differently. Lux absolutely cannot just snipe a huge minion wave from afar and get most of them because the minions are usually lined up perpendicular to the lane. So she has to manually line herself up with the minions in order to kill as much minions as possible which most of the time puts her at risk of being ganked or out of a fight since she is so slow. Rumble doesn't have to do that. Also, Lux's ult has so much more counterplay than Rumble's.

What Im saying. Not exactly, but close enough. It's like "Lets compare Rammus and Swain's ultimates!" No.

Titanium701 votes

Nah, people are just digging for reasons why Lux needs nerfs immediately. =P

She really is freaking strong right now but I still consider this a META made development where standing 3 miles away from the Zeds, Graves' and Poppys of this world is the only valid option left.

Bodkins Odds1 votes

Well, I wouldn't mind it too much if Lux's E did less damage if you instapopped it. But other than that, she's fine.

Titanium701 votes

Sure noone would mind nerfs on a champ that's spamed. (Except the spammers, obviously xD) Actually I'm glad I dont see here that often in my games - I really dont like this boring farm lanes and I HATE to see the same champs over and over again (same with Zed).

But when I encounter her I just dont get this feeling 'Damn! She's OP! I never had a chance!', that's why I tried to explain why she's strong and why she's picked that often instead of joining the QQ-Train (no offense, yours is definately no QQ). ^^

Stars Shaper1 votes

If only that was the case we would have seen Xerath Ziggs and probably some Velkoz too.

Titanium701 votes

The reason those guys are played less often is because they're simply less safe than Lux - Xerath effective FightingRange is lower than Lux and he has no shield, same for Vel, only Ziggs can compete with her and he is in a terrible state right now.

And if safety is THE argument (like I theorized), Lux will always shine... (eh.. unintended xD) Xerath and Ziggs both deal more DMG, guess Vel as well (although this dude has a serious DMG problem). But they just cant deal with lane assassins and late Tanks as good as Lux can.

Stars Shaper1 votes

To me it's more related to Corki mids rather than Zed/Talon.

But yeah I can agree with what you said 80%.

Sire Hippington2 votes

this isn't a meta made develpoment, it's a caused by a totally uneccesary buff to her Q. Ever since the Q buff, her winrate at pla+ was at around 54-55%, it actually was higher back in late S5 than it is now.

they're both straight line long range skillshots, though considering one is a nuke and the other is a DoT that's where the similarity ends.

Well when both oneshoot the minions, the ratio and base damage become irrelevant and the only thing that remains is the cooldown.

I don't believe that. When they both are able to one shot minions, the process of killing them should be considered as well because they don't do it the same way.

It cause assain mains are just upset. They are pissed that lux is designed to be played safely and ramp up. Who complains about a lux pre level 11 damage? No one.

They all just freak about her late game and her safety.

The sad part is that you can not even have a reasonable conversation with these people. First words out of their mouths is lux main or misguided figures.

In another thread the poster phrased his shield comment that lux was passing 2k shields out to everyone on the team. In actuality she is passing out 2k worth of shields to the entire team. But why let context ruin a statement.

Sir Yamazuki1 votes

You're ignoring the fact she can do that more often and it doesn't matter if his ult has higher damage when she is still instantly killing the minions with R+E. In regards to clearing waves, all that matters is whether the champion can kill them or not, if champion A and B can instantly clear minions then the fact B does more damage is actually completely meaningless. Then you need to factor in cool down, Rumble's ult is on a 120100 second cool down and doesn't itemize for cdr while Lux's ult is 8050 and itemizes for cdr. Her ult already is at half the cool down before even factoring any cdr she buys.

Stephenizgod1 votes

because Lux can point in a direction and damn near instantly do all that damage all at once. Rumbles requires aiming and is a DoT.
