@Meddler next mage when?

Last one was Taliyah in May 2016. Since then we've had:

Two Junglers -- Ivern Kayn

Three Top Laners -- Kled Camille Ornn

And a bot lane -- Xayah Rakan

BEFORE that was:

AurelionSol (Mage) Jhin (ADC) Illaoi (Top Laner) Kindred (JG) TahmKench (Top / Support, depending on your preferred patch) Ekko (Assassin) Bard (Support) RekSai (Jungler) Kalista (ADC) which takes us back to the last mage before ASOL in 2014, Azir

So since we've gone 7 champions without a new mage, when should we expect the next one? Also, why are mages so rare in new champions when they can have quite frankly the most unique kits?

I think it has to do with uniquness. Mages have the most diversity of any other class in the game(adc and bruisers being the most generic), and it's hard to make mages that stand out as unique.

Then there is the risk of making a mage too unique AurelionSol to the point where only a handful of people are willing to main them.

Very true and summed up nicely my friend [slayer-pantheon-thumbs] Also with how weak Mages in this 2 item 3193 item 3190 Tanks + 2 item 3812 item 3046 ADCs + 1 item 3109 item 3504 Enchanter meta, i doubt anyone is willing to learn how to play new Mages.

Mages aren't that unique. In this game they are mostly ranged aoe nukers.

I think partially the reason is because there are more mages in the pool compared to other types, so they want to give more options for the other 4 roles as much as possible.
