1 free ranked queue dodge a week

JavelinJoe··80 votes·3,491 views

Sometimes you just know that your opponents will shit on your team based on the team comps selected, or the chat is already excessively toxic. Say you are in promos and you ADC just drafted Soraka after the support picked up their champion, so they are going Soraka ADC. And you know that lane is going to feed because of it. (Soraka is really only an ADC in Nemesis Draft, sometimes). No one wants to waste time in a near guaranteed loss.

So by having 1 free dodge a week, you can just get out of there without worry of punishment (LP loss or a lost game in a series or a queue delay timer). These weekly free dodges will not make you ineligible for end of season rewards too. They are only to help you out of those bad situations. Lastly like the title said, they are only applicable in Ranked Queue (both Teams and Dynamic) so no free dodging Normals, ARAM, Rotating Game Modes, etc...

Honestly it's evident that Riot is against dodging as a whole considering the numerous penalties you garner from dodging. Sure, dodging you lose a lot less LP than potentially losing, but you also get timed out if you dodge too many times too. I am one of the many people that get super frustrated when people dodge because with multiple dodges in a row it can take upwards of 20 minutes just to get into a game! Some of us don't have that kind of time to be wasting just to get into a game of league which can take upwards of over an hour in itself!

I can't see Riot supporting this idea.

Then they need to think of a solution to deal with all the trolls in champion select. The problem with that is you can't report people in champ select, and if you go through with the game to report them after there is a very real possibility that you will lose exponentially more lp than you would if you just dodged.

Drugoth2 votes

Honestly the rampant trolling is on us as a whole community, why should Riot be forced to try to control all the trolls, we should all band together and just blacklist every troll we see. We could start a web page for the blacklist and use ctrl+F and just boycott playing with trolls at all.

underscores2221 votes

How would you boycott playing with a troll when you only "meet" them after you have been queued into champ select with them? The only way out at that point would be dodging.

However, I do agree with you in general. Dodging is not an acceptable practice and is not one we should encourage in any way.

I'm not sure about that, maybe a blacklist button that isn't a report? So maybe if they aren't super toxic for that particular game but you've looked them up and they're on the blacklist you could just blacklist them after game.

The result would be people that consistently troll getting longer and longer queue times as more people blacklist them.

or i mean you can block the trolls you get paired up with lowering your chance of playing a game with them. you'll still end up with a troll here and there but that's what you get when you play a free to play game. people need to remember that this is a free to play meaning that trolls are a hell of a lot more likely to show up. the best solution is to get over it and play what a wonderful game the people of roit have created. again roit doesn't have to do everything it does to make the game as playable as they do. they don't need to have a reporting system or have to constantly balance the game to make it better in the long run but they do. so getting into a game with a troll every once and a while is a hell of a lot better the the game not being what it is today. people just need to suck it up and not dodge because even if you feel like you're gonna lose your team may not and it just makes their experience with the game worse because you couldn't just man up and play a game. people being toxic? mute them. they still being rude? report them. roit doesn't take that shit. sooo... don't dodge because it ruins the game for others who are looking for a quick match and if you do dodge don't whine about how roit should spend their time on their free game, because no one will give you cheese for that whine.

if i dont like my teams comp, i will 100% dodge and nothing riot can ever do will change that. Losing 5 is better than losing 20. Too many trolls picking shit like sion mid into leblanc and shit. go fuck yourselves, im out of this game and you cant make me stay

AuraCreed1 votes

I think it's even worse when you FINALLY get your role as first choice or you get a good pick in the pick order for what you're planning to do and then someone dodges and you get your secondary in the next one. It feels like you got punished for the other person dodging.

Skins Project1 votes

I waited 2 hours and 17 mins for a game. :3 (Dodgers long wait time etc)

LXII5 votes

"...based on the team comps selected" - Draft better

"...is going Soraka ADC" - Sometimes it wins, this is obviously only happening in super low elo and anything is possible there.

"...the chat is already excessively toxic" - Mute them

As it stands if you dodge a game (out of promos) the "punishment" is minimal, so if you really want out just dodge anyway. In promos is another thing, but we've all been there, and we've all overcome.

TL;DR Please no, dodges are already annoying af as is.

TequilaZombie2 votes

Let's assume you're stuck with a Tyler1 wannabe in your game. Enemy team bans his main, or someone accidentally banned his pick and he decides to troll. I'm pretty sure people all the way to High Plat have run into champ select trolls. This basicly affects 90% of the comunity, so it would definetely be helpful.

Bhagswag1 votes

Sure. But how many people play ranked? Tons.

Even if one person could only dodge ONE time per week, there are still so many people that could dodge and just create a chain of long queue times.

LXII2 votes

My exact point. League has MILLIONS of unique players each month. 11.5 million was a number quoted by Riot back in 2011. That number has obviously grown, but to be generous we'll use it. Then we'll say only 6 million play ranked. Then we'll say there are only 3 weeks in every month.

18 million FREE dodges per month. Sounds like fun.

TequilaZombie1 votes

Well, it's not like everyone is going to use it. And when they do, is possibly for a good reason.

If it becomes a problem, I'd say having it once every two/three/four weeks might fix it. It could be live tested in a few servers, just like Team Builder was, but for a shorter period (say one or two weeks, at most)

It's potentially the solution of a long time problem with Riot's Matchmaking. I'd say it would be worth of being tested out.

LXII1 votes

"good reason" is a pretty flexible term in the League community. lol

TequilaZombie2 votes

Agreed. Lets turn it into "extreme cases". Nobody would dodge because they rather have a soraka than a sona as a support. Simply because in the next game they could be put with something as a Lee Sin support, which would be a much better use of the dodge.

Skins Project1 votes

Honestly it doesn't make that much of a difference now. Theres always like 5 people in one group, one of the accounts is a smurf and set up to fall. IE a acc they don't care about. The moment they get counterpicked the "Smurf" dodges and they go onto another acc or so on. The other MORE cancerous thing I see is that some 5 man groups wait until you see all of your opponents champs, have the fall dodge again, then ban whoever you saw on the other team, and it happens 5/7 times when they try this. (Ie same matchup or close)

People like you are very annoying. You try to fix this problem but, you make yourself seem like an idiot its not like those scenarios as you mentioned. It's far worse so please don't give any suggestions if they are all bad hypotheticals. Not saying you are 100 percent wrong but come on

LXII1 votes

"People like you are very annoying" - knows nothing about me as a person. "You make yourself seem like an idiot" - by citing logic rather than attacking someone's character that I don't know. "don't give any suggestions" - kinda the point of the boards.

Please come back with something constructive or just don't.. Either is fine since you're immature and feel the need to attack complete strangers online while adding nothing to the conversation.

StärPlatinum1 votes

Lets not start an argument I didn't attack you unless saying you Seem like an idiot is a form of attack then you have a wrong definition, I never brought anything about you in I said you are annoying by assuming via the comment you said this doesn't mean I know you. I said those hypotheticals you said are not logical they're hypotheticals I wasn't being immature in anyway either haha. When I said don't give any suggestions take it as "in what you said had no help so rethink it".

You're not even making coherent sentences, I think we're done here.

Like you offered anything constructive.

Draft better

Mute them

It is not really very constructive just to tell someone to "Draft Better" when 4 of 5 champions are not theirs to pick. And "Mute them" is not helpful either, it just avoids the issue, but does nothing to resolve it. Also muting your team is not going to help win a game. Cutting off communication is usually bad for the most part too.

LXII1 votes

I did give constructive advice, it just wasn't what you wanted to hear.

Muting your team is also fine since you can still ping.

Dr Poro2 votes

People are too busy thinking about how they would like to dodge that they forget how annoying it is when 9 other people constantly dodge. 1 free dodge per week doesn't seem like a lot, but it takes only one out of 10 to dodge to restart a whole game setup.

On top of that, with a lower penalty, people will expect their team to dodge when they troll, so they'll just take the odds and try to troll hard enough to make someone dodge.

LXII1 votes

This guy gets it.

Fear the Harvest3 votes

That'd be nice to not get a penalty so I could actually I dodge because someone picks Bard Kalista Riven Jhin LeeSin on my team, but it wouldn't matter much since I seem to get every no skill moron in history when those champs are selected.

see this guy right here perfect example of why encouraging dodging is dumb. says Jhin bad and he should be able to dodge because an ally picks x character.........

Fear the Harvest1 votes

I'm just going off past experience bro. I've gone through plenty of games with them on my side and I seem to have a 1/10 chance of them being decent so I'm just sick of seeing them at this point.

Dukues2 votes

doesn't matter. I hate playing with Yasuo but I shouldn't be able to dodge just because I don't like playing with them. It is really annoying when a team picks full AD but luckily that doesn't happen too often. That's the only time I will dodge or unless I clearly have someone super toxic who specially shows they going to troll. Which has maybe happened like... 5-6 times this season? I can eat my 5-6 min queue time and 3 lp is those rare occasions and should not be encouraged to dodge though.

FortisDominus3 votes

oh no a 3 lp loss...

AdeBug11 votes

oh no, one loss out of 3 games in promos

Great Muta1 votes

Yep. Had to dodge last night as my workmen were done early. Promo game lost. Had to win 2 to make it back up, and the first one was such a long game that I was tired out.

League is not good for people who work 2nd shift like me. I'm too out of it in the mornings and too tired at night.

Dr Poro2 votes

I don't play ranked on work days. Problem solved.

AdeBug3 votes

I'm in favor.

SkyBlade793 votes

No. That would probably make queue last like twice the time. I play AD thresh a lot, and I know people would just dodge before seeing what I can do with him.

Supreme Senpai694 votes

He's just talking about ranked, and honestly I'd dodge too if my ADC chose Thresh in ranked. In normals I'd fully encourage it and have done it.

SkyBlade792 votes

Well, I don't ever play him ADC. I play him mid, and the most satisfying thing in the world is carrying a game and making people eat their words. I figure that because I'm most familiar with AD thresh and I find him the most fun, he's a good main.

Enloct2 votes

They're all free. Only MMR matters and that doesn't go down in a dodge.

Unicky2 votes

I hate it when people dodge 10 times in a row too, but people generally have a good reason to dodge. It especially sucks when you're in promos and you get hybrid pen off-tank aura stacking adc garen on your team. Imagine just losing promos and then tilting your way back to 0 Lp.

I'd say, make it a promos only thing. Losing 3 lp isn't that big of a deal in comparison to potentially losing promos.

Mightout2 votes

1 hour ban for even the first dodge... climbing up by simply avoiding all "not so perfect" teams is pretty much un-fair-play. U can make your own team anyways if u want a "good team" - thats already unfair enough, since it's an obvious advantage over solo... Besides: Ur making everybody else wait just because of personal preferences! It's amazing that u don't even consider that this could be a problem.

TheTrueQuarian3 votes

Not wanting ADC Raka isn't personal preferences its just common sense.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Or how about vote to kick? Been asking for that shit for years.

MrryZ2 votes

Seems pretty abusable, anyone who picks an unfavoured champion would be unjustly kicked. Also i assume this goes without mentioning but premades would have too much opportunities to abuse it.

While it is a worthwhile suggestion and the there are more benefits, the drawbacks are just too prominent to implement it.

I suppose if they ever brought back the tribunal it could be worth a shot with people judging on unjust kickings.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Premades would get 1 vote instead of each player getting to vote (so maybe just the captain of the premade?). I'm not sure how to handle the situation where a 4 man votes to kick the solo player, or vice versa, but I'm sure if riot put as much time into this system as they did into, say, fkin chroma skins they could find a way to make it work.

And yes, the tribunal would be able to solve literally every complaint possibly made against this game's shit report/autoban system. Personally, I see 0 reason why a player should be punished for lashing out against a completely toxic person. If they game's already gone to shit, why should a victim be punished for defending him/herself? I might be a bit salty due to a 10 game chat restriction for exactly this, but still, I do not see the value in punishing the victims of trolls and other toxic attitudes. It only makes the toxic climate of the game worse.

Great Muta2 votes

CSGO does this:

  1. Troll gets kicked. Troll finds new game in seconds. Problem solved.

  2. Innocent player gets kicked. Might be mad, but finds new game in seconds. Will get over it, since his team was probably harassing him anyway.

  3. Too many kicks? You get a penalty.

  4. Kicked too many times? You get a penalty.

It works out well. The abusers get punished and the people trying to kick each other don't want to play with them anyway, so it relieves stress.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

I love how other games actually do this, yet Riot claims it won't work. Is there a name for how dumb these people are? Because "dumb" just doesn't cut it anymore...

TotalJerk1 votes

If you're on a losing streak you'll get votekicked out of every game.
