Honestly, who the hell do you pick to counter support Morgana?

That black shield is freaking stupid.

I'll pick alistar - Nope cancels all my cc I'll pick blitz - Nope, pull got shielded I'll pick annie - Nope, shield again AND it absorbs magic damage I'll pick nami/Sona/Janna/etc. - Lel shielded and you're all so squishy so 1 Q = death or flash

Then you have her retarded pool that's instant so there's no way to tell where it's going to be put. Giving her easy gold from spelltheif proc. Considering every support morg builds sighstone then straight ap it does way too much damage

There's her Q which last way too long. Fiddle got his 3 second fear nerf and rammus got his 3 second taunt nerfed because they're "toxic" for gameplay. The assassins lost their silence because it was toxic for gameplay and didn't give time to react. Then there's nidalee who had her spear hitbox nerfed and damage on it lowered because 1 hit from a low cd skill shot with that kind of hitbox ruined the game. Morgana has all these qualities into her Q. Yet that remains untouched. "It's slow moving" it has the hitbox of a tractor and even if you do dodge it eventually she'll hit one which means GG to whoever got caught in it which is both toxic and unfun to play against

Then there's the stupidity of her ult. I would be ok with it if it didn't have a freaking slow attached to it. Like, why? The counterplay to her ult is the fact you can get out of it negating it completely. Yet it's nearly impossible to do that with the slow added on to it. "CC her to escape" lelnope got muh shield.

Lastly there's the main skill I hate about her. That freaking black shield. Kassadin has a shield that absorbs magic damage ONLY that because if he could ignore cc every Q that would be op. Sivir/noc's spell shield only blocks ONE spell because anymore would be OP. Morgana's retarded shield can block multiple CC AND absorb magic damage. That counters EVERY support in the game. Have any of you fought a katarina with that shield on her? It's freaking dumb. "just focus the other person" in lane that makes sense yea, but if it's used on a hyper carry like katarina/yi/yasuo etc. someone who HAS to be focused it's stupid. That skill needs to go.

Once you can do that, the matchup becomes very doable with almost any support. The hitbox on her Q is massive, but you can use that to your advantage by hanging around minions and letting them take the hit for you. Every time she uses black shield, you get a huge window of opportunity during which you can land an engage. Don't pick blitz; his hook has way too long of a cd to capitalize reliably. Same for thresh (at least early on). Nami, janna, sona, and annie are all fine picks. Nami has poke/sustain and a relatively short cd on bubble. Janna gives your adc plenty of trading power and has short enough CDs to be able to capitalize when black shield goes on CD. Sona doesn't give any fucks about morg's black shield, since she just q pokes all day, and if morg ever does blow a black shield on defending against that, she leaves her lane open for a sona ult for the next 23 seconds, not to mention sona ult is fast enough that she probably wouldn't be able to react to it if you just suddenly popped it anyway. Annie works on a similar principle as the sona ult, but you have to be able to bait her shield, or at least be willing to blow some of your damage breaking through it (set up your stun charges so the stun goes through on the second or third ability). Additionally, if you can deny her vision of the bush, you can potentially get your CC off before she can react; this goes for anyone, but it's especially important for anyone with a long cast animation (like those cases where morg picks into you as thresh or blitz).

Easy guide to playing against Morgana

  • On being snared

  • Make various enquiries to discover morgana's details

  • Track morgana down

  • Violently arrive at morgana's residence, disconnect internet.

  • Return home and await removal of the snare.

  • Kill afk morgana

Braum is tanky enough to eat the cc for the adc and be fine and also can pick up a little ad thanks to passive synergy and that ad goes through the black shield. You can do the same thing with Thresh but Braum can jump in the way of the cc to protect the carry.

Lulu or Janna can shield the damage that comes in follow up to the binding.

Karma or Zyra can poke on shorter cd than morg shield.

Gangplank support can poke with his q which is physical which gets through the black shield and he has a cleanse build into his w.

But of course there is always Mikael's crucible for the binding

Best counter is probably lulu. She relies on auto attacks for poke making black shield less effective. Also her w if used for speed can help you dodge snares or run out of her pool or get out of her ult range. Finally, lulu's shield will protect against black pool if your snared in it.

Her shield has a huge cooldown. Just bring Sona, Karma, Brand, etc and spam them to death. The most important thing is to be able to keep range on her.

just pick braum / thresh, when she shields someone you tag the other person / flay them... you just gotta out play, its not a matter of who BEATS her.

Spamable poke beats her shield for one simple reason. If she shields something like a Zilean bomb or Sona Q, she's super weak to CC for a good 20 seconds (Especially since most Morgana's don't max shield first, and when they do their bindings last for such a small duration her lane presence kinda sucks)

So poke heavy supports that can followup with good CC destroy her. Zilean is my personal favorite since there is 0 delay on his slow. And its super easy for him to bait out her shield.

Yes, Morgana support is too strong, but that's largely because Dark Binding is the single strongest nonultimate CC left in the entire game. Black Shield isn't the issue, it mainly makes support Morg a counter to the CC-heavy initiation-focused supports you mentioned. The counter to Morgana is SUPPOSED to be Sona and other poke-focused lane bully (note that "lane bully" is NOT the same as an all-in hard engage like Leona) supports... except that Riot nerfed the everloving SHIT out of Sona because they thought she "needed more counterplay" so that she's probably the weakest support IN THE GAME. And then they released an Ultimate skin for her because fuck you.

If you're picking Leona, Alistar or Thresh into the enemy Morgana I got news for you- you're not very good at support. Do you also pick top lane Fiora or Cho'Gath into Darius, or midlane Brand or Vel'Koz into Zed?

If lich bane was buffed to be more support friendly with a higher base damage early it could be used to destroy a morg shield. On say sona etc. Then you have an actual counter to morg.

She loses to poke supports hard. Karma, Zyra... because your poke has a much lower cooldown than her shield.

I win my matchups against her as support Xerath, fyi. I play at high gold/low plat levels.

I go into the matchup very offensively, spamming my Q onto whoever has the weaker MR. My goal is to outharass her, which Xerath can do pretty easily, since binding is easily dodgable, but his Q is much harder.

I avoid and stall initiates with his stun, and just force my target right out of the lane - If she starts spell shielding to stop the damage, you'll OoM her and ruin any engage potential she has. It's very difficult for Xerath to go OoM if you keep your passive going. It's also worth noting that shielding the damage form Xerath's Q isn't precisely easy. You really need to watch for it and pick the right target.

Lux can compete with her distance and harass potential, but she can go oom pretty easy as well.

I have no problem vs Morg as Nami or Sona.

Learn how to fake bubbles with Nami, start building ap Sona and eat at their health.
