Shen Rework Needed (See Why!)

ExecutorDill··14 votes·1,980 views

Shen shen lacks too much of everything needed to successfully do his job which is splitpush. He has no wavelclear, minor mid to late game damage due to his absurd ability scalings, his energy becomes his enemy in teamfights, hitbox on E a little too small Q's range is the same as Yasuo's Q range. The Passive cooldown reducer on W is weak late game. Too much effort is needed to do simple thing that would other Wise be effortless for many champions within and out his role.

The bad champ rotation shen is in:

I can't build tank because I need more items>> I can't get enough money to build items because I do minor damage to champs/turrets/creeps>> i do minor damage because I do not scale into my abilities>> I do not scale into my abilities because I would be too squishy and die often so I have to build tank>> " repeat from beginning".

This hole just goes on and on and on Rito help plz :'(

From what I see you aren't looking at Shen from all the right angles his passive not only deals incredible damage when you stack health but it also deals it to turrets unlike many other passives he is a melee champ and doesn't need a very high q range or his harass would be unmanageable if you pay attention you can easily farm using your q for the gold and if you think the wave clear is too slow there's sunfire he's made with tools to help him get around these issues I can go into more detail if necessary but I'm just gonna leave it at that because those were most of your complaints sorry if you need me to explain anything or if I need to correct anything let me know first time posting to boards

That's why I said "minor mid to late game damage"

In no way a jab, is suppose to be equal or larger in range than that of a throwing projectile, atleast not in a game. I'm done playing shen because he is a sad attempt at a champion, with nothing unique about him and it evident that riot hasn't nearly as much work into him over the years as they did with has while making him.

have you played shen? like in a real match? no bots, shen only has a power spike of 3 lvls till almost every top laner beats your ass, lets take a look of 5 popular top laners

Riven Lissandra Gnar Irelia Rumble

without any jungler helping you or trying to kill you, you will die against those 5 guys beign gnar and riven the easiest ones to kill (pre 6) they still have a big chance to defeat you even with just a dorans and a potion while you get a item 1031 item 1033 to survive the dmg, believe me i have played shen since early season 1 (he even was my top 3 in ranked season 1) i have seen the ups and downs of him and at this moment he is dead weight even if he is ahead, he might work in pro scene because they dont have a yolo vayne who goes all in while you shout "MY ULT IS IN CD DONT ENGAGE!!!!!!1111" and i know not a lot of champs are made for solo que but shen offers nothing that another top laner could do besides the global shield (which is kinda weak when every1 has over 4 items) and for the record, if you harrass with Q often you are low on energy to taunt away, OR if you miss taunt, you have nothing to help your team besides a silly hp regen from vorpal blade

He indeed needs a rework, but thats mostly because of his ult. Back in S2/early S3, shen was nearly 100% pick/ban in proplay, and he wasn't much stronger than he is now. It's just that if you push him a bit over the edge by giving him a stronger laneing or clashing, his splitpushing with the global ult becomes rather broken. Beeing energie based with a point n click poke, a shield and increased heathregen while having a good ranged dash with cc makes him by default a strong laner, he can outsustain nearly anyone while slowly pokeing them low, he can survive all-in atemps from his shield and good basevalues, and if behind/low he can cs from range with Q while sustaining him self, and he can either followup on ganks or escape ganks with his E. And most of all he can shield and TP to any ally on the map with his ult, allowing him to turnaround ganked lanes, pushout lanes during dragon dances or support his jungler at a gank, especially towerdive.

If he now also gets strong all ins or waveclear or clashimpact, things get uggly. Almost all his power outside of lane is in his ult, the rest feels underwhelming and thus shen isn't very fun to play, so i think the best way to make shen more interesting would be reworking the ult to free the power he needs on the rest of his kit.

You might be able to jack up his sustain without causing offensive issues. After a while his q poke stops being relevant damage wise, and his energy gating keeps its use under control later on, so how about making it so that the regen from his q takes place over a longer period of time, but stacks? He can't kill you quickly, but you can't kill him either.

hes like rene he's a tank that power houses early game if played right

There's no real reason to play when he is too easy to ignore after he uses his taunt, never have to even look at him in a teamfight unless you really want a penta.

What do you think about this kind of change for a ninja tank?

Passive: Feint/Ghost Walk

Shen takes X% reduced damage from basic attacks and Y% reduced damage from AoE spells.

After Shen takes damage from 10 such attacks, he goes invisible for 2 seconds, and gains 50% movement speed and the ability to move through units. The next attack Shen makes after exiting stealth hits all targets around him and restores 30 energy. Shen does not gain stacks of this passive for 5 seconds after exiting stealth.

Basically, what Im picturing here is Shen doing his job as a tank and getting into the fight, then disappearing after he takes focus for a while, to re-position and start it up again. He gets in your face as a tank and draws aggro "GET HIM!!!" then is suddenly gone... or behind you... "WHERE ARE YOU!?" "... here... "

Then just make his W Ki-Strike, which would give him an auto attack reset. Add a slow to the strike, and we have some extra cc for priority targets.

Then add a passive onto his Ultimate that says qualifying attacks vs the target of your shield count for stacks on your passive. Then there is that fun chance that Shen might show up invisible. :)
