What's the point of Primordial Burst doing 2500 damage to someone with 500 HP

Don't understand this thought process.

It just does more damage the lower the target's HP is. That's just how it is. It's like asking "I don't understand why lvl 18 Autos do base 100 damage when I only have 1 hp." Veigar gets a CRAP ton of AP. 1000+ is not unreasonable. So you're looking at guaranteed 1100 ish minimum damage there. Then it does up to double damage to lower hp targets. It helps him kill low HP tanks as well.

My question is why have such a ridiculously high number like 2500 for someone who'd die to a Q that does 600 damage? I don't understand the reasoning as to why it should be like that other than the fact that they didn't know what the hell to do with his ult

Chamuel851 votes

If you read the notes from the reworks, they wanted his ult to be scary damage to more than just mages. Therefore, they did it based off of Missing HP so it could hurt tanks... bruisers... ADCs... assassins... with equal ferocity. So thanks to mathmatics, the numbers can get crazy big on people since he also happens to just get a boat load of AP... which means any scaling numbers will likely to get rediculous. It's just math. Veigar always has been a 'NUKE SOMEONE INTO ORBIT'. His ult just keeps in line with that theme. It doesn't mean that 'they had no idea what to do with his ult.' just because someone nuked you with it when they may have been better off just killing you with Q

don't think you understand my point

No, you're not doing a very job of elaborating on the subtleties of your point if you are not upset that Veigar would overkill so much.

Are you commenting on why someone would do that? Do you hate that much overkill? Do you hate missing HP amplified damage? Do you just not like dying to a point and click ultimate?

Your post and statements have been very ambiguous and you've never really made a true attempt to more clearly define your issue. It's not my fault that all you've said is "I don't get the reasoning!" and when someone explains the reasoning to you that you think "You don't understand."

If it is truely just the large number on such low HP, your problem is with mathmatics. Not veigar ult.

No, I never play against Veigar, like ever, so I'm not annoyed that I die to his ult. Also, I understand how % missing HP damage works, that wasn't my question either. It's why they gave him that much damage to someone who is going to die anyways. Before, Veigar's ult was overkill if he landed his q and w too - but at least it wasn't a completely useless ability if you used it on a HP target. All that this does is make his early game cheese stronger with 400 damage lvl 6 ultis.

It's to generally ensure that they die and have no chance of surviving (outside of things like Braum ult/Yasuo windwall/spellshields/etc).

It's meant to shred through MR and health both.

And once you get into late game, you can E-W-Q to kill probably any non-high health enemies instantly, and then any targets that got hit by both W and Q (unless they have a ton of MR/health). Now you can ult to finish them off, or ult anyone else around you with non-full health for a kill with your ult, because your other spells are still on cooldown.

that's how missing %HP damage works, it's supposed to be an execute thing. It's supposed to guarantee that whoever is being targeted to die. I have no idea what you are complaining about. Do you feel the same with pretty much EVERY SINGLE OTHER missing %HP ability that's in the game? Jhin's ult is like that, Garen's ult is like that, Jinx's ult is like that and that's just from the top of my head! i could go and name you every single ability in the game that's just like that. The entire point is to SECURE kills, to make it so that you don't just use your ability on a full HP target and blow them up just like that.

Jhin, Garen, and Jinx don't have two other super high damage spells in their kits though

and? his ult is there like i said to SECURE KILLS! all the better if you have high damaging spells since that makes his ult all the more effective since you don't have to wait to do several rotations of the spells and just do your regular spell rotation and kill someone. YOU MAKE NO SENSE WHATSOEVER! stop complaining for the sake of complaining and if you are going to complain then actually provide an actual argument instead of "i don't get the thought process" and then proceed to argue whenever people actually tell you the thought process!

No kill like overkill.

No kill like overkill.

Veigar ult is overkill in any situation though. lol

Before if you landed the meteor and Q late game, a typical squishy (if they have not somehow fucking died from that) would have very very little HP left to the point where a 500 + 100% AP ability would kill them from nearly full HP either way

Astôlfo1 votes

Except you wouldn't need to use your full combo on one squishy late game. It's when you're taking down multiple people and realizing your W by itself won't kill them, and that Q only hits 2 targets in a skillshot. W is delayed and near impossible to land unless they're CC'd. Your teammates can get an enemy down to low enough health where you can just ult to kill them. It's about cooldowns and just erasing the enemy team off the map altogether.

Fondling Gems1 votes

Because it slows down his burst combo for one. Before he could stun Q>W>R, now he has to wait before casting R so that the W damage hits first. It also jsut means that he has to get enemies lower to do as much damage as before. It also makes him better at executing tanks.

Kanzaki Ranko1 votes

1484 damage was probably way more than the HP you had left before it hit. My point still stands

Maybe to overcome shields? I dunno. He's the Tiny Master of Evil. He overcompensates.

Also it's hilarious to see.

To make you ask

Astôlfo1 votes

Because it is % missing health scaling? There isn't any sort of "point" to exist.

It's used as a finisher on targets his Q and/or W can't kill (aka, early game, or if he hits multiple people late but he doesn't kill them all with Q/W since Q can only hit two).

Overkill?

Urf Mode Is Life1 votes

people like seeing massive hits... its literally that simple... its like... i hit you so hard i coulda killed you twice

Abyssphere1 votes

Because the massive amount of damage to low health targets allows him to finish people off even if they're highly resistant to the damage he does. It's overkill damage on squishies, yes, but it's the damage that allows him to kill tanks when he would otherwise struggle. Every execute does huge amounts of overkill damage when the target is low enough, Veigar is not at all alone in this.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

That's how %missing health damage works for any ability.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

100 MR turns that into 1200 damage 200 MR turns that into 825 damage

Then you can add extra resistances

So basically unless you have extremely strong magic resistances and bonus resistances you will die

And yes there are easy ways to get bonus resistances

Why is Veigar ulting something with 200 MR

Astôlfo1 votes

Because any squishies would have been dead from W-Q?

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

Because its time to end the game lategame or because its time to carry the midgame and grab advantages.

Remember that viegar is not a burst assassin, he a immobile nuke mage. They, like adcs, for the most part will target whatever they can not walk past 2 bruisers to try and focus the adc who's 800 units back like some bronze noob. He will nuke the shit out of your tank and leave you tankless so you can get steamrolled by his team after you tried to go ham on his team. He gets to poop on one target and he needs to choose wisely.
