Yasuo has had a 30-37% pickrate for months now.

Sorgklaan··78 votes·5,356 views

Can we just fuckin' talk about him? Like, what are his tradeoffs for his power?

Strengths: Strong, free shield. Double crit chance. One of the most mobile champions in league. Can block any projectile in the game, including major ults. Strong poke. Resourceless. Ult ignores bonus armor.

Weaknesses: He's melee? .... That's all I can think of.

Why does Yasuo get all this shit? For having so many massive strengths, what tradeoff does he have beyond being a melee champion? He's like two melee carries forcefully stuffed into a single champion.

His early laning is obnoxious as all hell. For someone with such a RETARDED mid game power spike (after just one item), he sure doesn't give anything up during lane phase. He's melee, yeah, but he can also dash around, get doran's shield, get another shield on top of that, and a windwall just to make sure you can't retaliate after you manage to actually land a skillshot in his direction. At level 1, his Q can actually hit multiple targets, and he can push the wave out very quickly while not caring about harass (doran's shield + passive). He controls every single lane he's in.

Oh, and if you thought that wasn't obnoxious enough, he has no abusable cooldown windows besides windwall. He can --always- dash around, he can -always- spam Q, and his ult late game has like, a 30 second CD on his ult. HIS ULT HAS A FUCKING 18 SECOND COOLDOWN AT 40% CDR.

And not only does he dominate every lane and get a massive powerspike in the midgame, he only gets stronger as the game goes on. And even if you shut him down, the utility he provides to his team with his windwall and his knockup+ult initiation is still monstrous.

At 40% CDR

LMFAO wat when are you gonna see a Yasuo with even a hint of cdr

This kind of comment is why no one with a brain takes these boards seriously.

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

ok, without cdr its 30 seconds, is that much better? An ult that is that impactful should have a 60 second cd at least...

I'm honestly beginning to thing CertainlyT has Riot blackmailed because his champions are never fixed.

TyroneWatermelon41 votes

Lol riot said he's a hyper carry and his trade off is his "weak" early game. This just gave me cancer since his early game is just as Zed 's.

Dessem16 votes

So pretty much like Vayne's weak early game.

TheFPSPower1 votes

Except Vayne really has a weak early game, every other adc can kill her faster early, late game however, it turns out to be a kit matchup.

Dessem4 votes

I wouldn't say "every other ADC", given Vayne has a stun and tumbles to get out of skillshots. Vayne actually trades pretty decently (AA->TumbleAA->Condemn if you want to be cheesy) though I agree that champions like Miss Fortune, who specialise in harassing their opponent or Kalista, who has a strong early game deal well with Vayne.

However, these are exceptions rather than the rule, and Vayne can (and often will) go even with most other ADCs. Depending on Vayne's Support, she can also have enough damage early to negate the advantages poke champs have by going all-in.

She's not incredibly strong early, but it's not much if at all weaker than Ashe's early game.

Actually Yas' is slightly better, and poor Zed actually doesn't do sh!t outside laningphase if he didn't get fed.

Yas at least later, has utility that Zed doesn't, and also CC, loads of it.

Yas also come backs into the game just as good as vayne, infinity statik full build gg wp.

i dont think his windwall should stop certain ults. for example namis ult, it shouldnt block 100% of her wave for touching 10 % of it

Madra16 votes

Nami's wall should just destroy it.

Pikmints7 votes

It can be if Riot did something like break her ult into say 5 waves that all together still looked like the wave now. His windwall would still block 2 of the 5 waves on average, but Nami's damage and cooldown is balanced around it being as large and reliable as it is, this would only help those edge cases when the entirety of the wave would be destroyed with the potential of her large, reliable wave doing nothing. Considering it's long windup and slow speed, an enemy Yasuo or Braum have more time to react to this and block it than they do with most projectiles.

It would be a little unintuitive, but since Galio's taunt can't be reduced by tenacity, intuitiveness isn't a first and foremost priority in all cases.

CoffeeDave19 votes

Only 30-37%? as a Nami main, I see him closer to 50-60% of my games, on either team.

LVL 5 PORO10 votes

Thats it? I see him in about 90% of my games. But I ban him every chance I get so now its around 70%.

Ormylar18 votes

I feel that Yasuo should never have been released. He just has way too many stats on each ability imo. His passive is ridiculous, one of the best passives in the game imo. I also feel like his wall should only block projectiles in the direction he threw his wall out.

I'm not saying this is a solution to Yasuo's kit but if you're having trouble laning against a mid Yasuo, play Malzahar.

Prince Royal12 votes

Weaknesses. Squishy. Reduced crit damage. Weak vs non projectile reliant champions. Ultimate requires certain conditions. Cooldown on who he can dash to.

That's all I can think of.

ZT Xperimentor4 votes

-10% critical damage is negligible when he's already doing x3 damage with 1 item

Jason the other3 votes

Flow give adequit defence crit chance reduced by 10 or even 25 % isnt that bad His kit allows his to duel non projectile champions with ease because of his r and q The requirements are easy to meet if you teem comp is good Idk why u included the last part of course there a cooldown on who he can dash to and even at that its mainly just a gap closer anyway which means you dont even need to constintly spam it on champions it would work the same on minons for the gapcloser part

Yasuo honestly is pretty good in all stages of the game but does have one huge weakness in that he is squishy as hell. If you can lock him down he is pretty much toast. or even then. if you focus him quickly when he jumps in he is also toast.

I mean in the c9 vs fnc game where balls got penta. yasuo went in, and immediately got exploded because of how squishy he is even with a dead man's plate at that point which is not typical on yasuo.

what makes yasuo annoying is his oppressive lane phase and how fast he snowballs due to his double crit chance. he only needs one item to spike hard and two to spike insanely. 3 and hes basically full power and can build whatever the fuck he wants after that. his lane phase has been hard to punish for a long time because of his really good mobility, windwall, and his flow. its like when his windwall his down. his flow is up. very very frustrating. I won't go so far to say he's overpowered because honestly I've played as Yasuo as well and his skill cap is pretty high. but he is definitely un-fun to play against as the majority of the time he can just constantly push in your wave and he has two tools to defend himself in his windwall/flow. Melee champs struggle cuz the flow and ranged struggle cuz of windwall.

personally I've said it for awhile now the only thing yasuo needs is the windwall duration to not last as long. thats it. currently he can just throw it out for an entire duration forcing you to go around it or even deny you creeps for a decent amount of time. I don't mind how the mechanic works, it is a core part of who yasuo is, but i wish it was more skill reliant rather than "im going to throw this out and zone you from whatever you want to do for 5 seconds or so". or however long it is. it feels like ages though. If it required him to time the skill shot coming at him or projectile it would feel more like you got outplayed.

his flow feels kind of annoying too as it doesn't really seem to fit him thematically at all. like they want you to walk around and be a wanderer just like he is in his lore...i get that. but it doesnt seem like enough. it gives him a shield basically that honestly is not to be understated as it protects him in short trades quite well. I feel with all his mobility already he doesn't really need the flow at all. its kind of like a weird mini banshees almost (not quite as it wont block CC but you get my point). Double crit, wind wall, and endless mobility within an area with lots of targets is enough. he also has pretty decent movement speed with his base movement and how he builds shiv, triforce on top of his boots.

TLDR= don't feel yasuo is OP, but his flow doesn't fit with his kit thematically and makes it frustrating to try to punish him as well as his wind wall duration just lasts too long.

LankPants11 votes

Yasuo honestly is pretty good in all stages of the game but does have one huge weakness in that he is squishy as hell.

Any champ who builds heavy offence tends to be squishy. Yasou's actually fairly tanky for a champ who builds offensively.

His shield into the late game gives him up to an extra 1100 HP since he can reset it with his ult. Not to mention he can deny a lot of damage onto himself with his Windwall and Sweeping Blade, making it much harder to lay down damage on him and making him effectively tankier.

The Whamboozler11 votes

I don't mind a snowbally melee carry. But windwall is probably THE best support skill in the game. Why does the Riven of mid-lane get it? Ditch windwall and make Yas dodge crap with his dash or soak with his sheild and he's balanced. Instead he has both of those AND the ability to shut down the adc's auto-attacks on his entire team by wind-walling them at the right time. They removed dodge for a reason.

Windwall is broken. The rest of him is fine.

BluePolarizer4 votes

Yasuo is actually very tanky for a light fighter.

He has way more EHP than Riven and Yi, for example, who are of the same class.

Now I'm not saying that Yasuo is OP, but he is definitely not squishy. With IE+Shiv, he can build full tank afterwards and he still does incredible damage.

With a build like item 3087 item 3031 item 3072 item 3006item 3156 item 3026 he can still do insane damage, is incredible tanky against burst magic damage and still explodes enemy ADCs because they won't have the CC or burst to deal with him, while BT + 100% crit means he has the sustain to drain-tank enemy melee DPS.

His actual weakness is basically being crap when behind and very team dependent.

Croanin11 votes

Too bad every Yasuo is a freakin liability and likely to feed during the laning phase.

TTUPhoenix8 votes

One weakness I know of - albeit a small one - is that unlike most melee champions, Yasuo doesn't get MR per level. He's stuck at 30 (discounting runes, masteries and items).

FistOfSharkiesha6 votes

Not a huge weakness when his wind wall and flow make him practically immune to harass and guarantee he won't be bursted to 0.

his weakness is that he is outtradded by melee champions that dont rely on projectiles zed, fiora, riven, talon, diana, for instance. Yes these are not popular and yes i think he needs changes

LVL 5 PORO21 votes

His "tradeoff" is being countered by a very limited number of champs? That hardly seems fair. If I want to beat Yasuo I HAVE to play one of these champs because he annihilates everyone else. Balanced ...

It's already been said by Riot they don't like lanes or games being heavily decided at champion select, so as to why they created Yasuo is beyond me.

Zed is very projectile based, his shurikens account for a massive portion of his damage, not to mention that his shadow can be blocked by windwall

Solaxo4 votes

Malz counters him pretty hard, Yasuo is always a pushover to me

Robbit Mang4 votes

His weakness is that he's really "all in" if you can see what i mean. It's very easy to get a lead on yasuo, but its even easier to completely throw it away. Imagine like master yi- serious power but very easy to kill. Buy a qss and just purge off his ult, and use any CC and he'll get destroyed. ADC's like draven and kogmaw really ruin his day, and morgana/thresh are very good against him (black shield prevents knockups, he cant ult, and thresh has tools to disable him during ult etc). Plus his defensive steroid is pretty weak compared to other melees, given that a 20 damage mage auto can pop the entire thing and its down until he gets like 500 flow. If he was so OP as people say he would have a much higher winrate than he does, which i believe it's about 48-49% currently? His winrate is below average because he takes skill to play and is very easy to throw away leads on. The trinity force build is probably the thing everyone is complaining about, given taht it does actually give his autos with statikk and IE about 1100 damage, plus he can stil build 2 more items. But i figure that's because yasuo gets ahead from his super easy and quick farming. also so much of his power is invested in his ult you can easily dodge his tornado and go back in on him unless he e-->q's onto you, but theres still QSS for taht.

He's insanely fun to play. That's pretty key.

One of the main reasons that he's fun to play is because he is strong, people like playing strong champions.

I don't know if he is too strong though, that's up for debate.

Ult ignores bonus armor.

Please, don't spread false informations.. It only ignores half of bonus armor.

I also dislike yasuo, so I know your feelings :)

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Most players build a last whisper (35% armor pen), & with the 'devistating strikes' masteries (6% armor pen); that adds up to 91% armor pen; and with his guaranteed critical hits with 2 items (infinity edge & static shiv); not counting runes. So with the right runes & masteries, he can kill tanks faster than vayne using only 3 items; assuming he takes boots, that still leaves 2 open slots. With a black cleaver (30% armor pen when fully stacked, 5% per stack) & triforce (+10% critical hit) he'll always critical hit and be dealing true damage to anyone who survives his first 2 auto-attacks.

That's pretty broken considering darius only gets 25% armor penetration from his kit but doesn't have any mobility. Oh yasou also gets to deny any counter poke, as well as, single handedly being able to cc-lock someone for 4 seconds by himself. Yasou also has an infinite dash while being resource-less!

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

Frankly, Yasuo has issues, but people complain about everything in his kit instead of analyzing the problem.

The problem is his mid-game. He's supposed to be a stronger early-mid game melee carry with a weaker late-game (that -10% damage on crits from his passive is seriously why it works like that), but he has too powerful a mid-game rebound. You know how a lot of players will complain about a champion rebounding from 0-10? Yasuo actually pulls it off because of how rapidly his damage goes up once he hits 50% Crit Chance.

Having said that, his crit doubling passive is his only steroid, really. His ultimate ignoring half of bonus Armor doesn't really do much, particularly early-game, if you aren't fighting a tank. And, really, the problems from Yasuo's crit bonus are a side effect of the Crit Chance system being binary. His power curve needs to be smoothed out.

The rest of his kit is designed pretty well.

his weakness is 90% of players dont know what to do with him seriously, most of them just press r in a team fight, maybe get the adc to half health but the adc will just lifesteal all of that back. the second he comes down from his ult, he just gets blown up and dies
