Remember that your key drop rate depends on how many players you are premade with - the more players, the more key fragments.

I've played one or two games duo and noticed I got key fragments far more frequently when doing so.

And people wonder why dedicated solo-queue players feel that Riot doesn't appreciate them...

On a reddit post someone spectulated the math about hextech and Queue with a full premade only got about 4% eztra chance at keys.

The more keys you drop, the less likely they will drop. And key drops reset every month or so.

So when the reset happens, those who tend to play alot will, for all practical purposes, max out their key drops within a couple days. The chances of getting a drop after that is practically zero. But if you play a lot, you will get 10 or so keys per month.

Key fragments are less likely to drop with every one you get. Here is an example since i dont know the real percentage, first one: 50%, second: 25%, third: 12.5%, and so on. It resets every month or two so you just got to wait till the reset if they get to rare.

Its not every begining of the month, its every month or two after the first reset key so if like your key reset was may 10th or something, you still have 5 days.

I have 3 chests and 2 fragments

But I'm pretty sure you get a free key fragment when you reach rank 4 or 5 with a champion

I have that exact number of chests and keys, too. But I have gotten level 4 or 5 with champs and not gotten key fragments. It seems pretty random to me.

I'm also sitting on the tokens needed for champion mastery 6 on Shyvana and Udyr, but can't make them because no blue essence. Can't make blue essence because no champion fragments. I've got 3 boxes. But can't open them because no key fragments.

As someone who has all the champs and an excess amount of IP, I'm happy Riot's created the IP dump that is champion shards. Unfortunately it's awful for those who don't have all the champs and an excess amount of IP.
