Why does Akali's Q mark you for SO LONG?

Danny DeVito··44 votes·3,333 views

It makes it basically impossible to trade with her as a melee. Even if you wait for the thing to expire, she can throw another one on you the right before it does so essentially you're permanently marked and will HAVE to have it popped if you want to trade as a melee champ.

Also 8 second shroud l0l but that's not what this thread is about

And Ornn Brittle. Similar issues.

That can be avoided though

as a melee? if you get close he can just boop it right up on ya... and yea you can just back off and wait it out, but what a pain lol

Salron5 votes

I agree it is too long but it's still more managable than Akali's Q

Z3Sleeper1 votes

It's actually really easy to sidestep it. Like, I never thought it was but holy you can just literally right click perpendicular to him and you won't get Brittled.

Life hacks man. Even when he slows you with Q. Trust me my dude it totally blew my mind when I realized how easy it is to sidestep.

Poske1 votes

Abilities with an indicator and range such as ezreal Q are never easy to dodge for melee champions if they are on top of ezreal

Orn Q is ezreal q like ability dodge wise

You can pump fake it at best. Orn should have 90% Q hitrate if you jump on him

This is one of the reasons melee champions suck at teamfighting since every champion has ezreal q like ability

Z3Sleeper1 votes

W8 we aren’t talking about Ornn or Ez Q. We’re talking about Ornn W.

And if you really don’t believe me, try it. Walk up to Ornn and then just keep moving side to side. He will never land a full W even if he Q’s you. QW only works because people reactively run away from it. Same with raw W sometimes. Noone even attempts to sidestep it.

Look, i hate Ornn as much as anyone, but there’s no denying it’s easy to dodge if you’re being aware.

VERY difficult as most top laners. Unrealistically so.

ornn himself though has a very situational CC the only more sure one is the ult which you can have him miss if you CC or interrupt his redirection of it.

It's hard to do in lane as immobile melee top laners though.

It's not the CC that's the problem, it's how it does a significant amount of dmg on champs because it's %max hp magic damage. Because of how long it lasts, once you get Brittle on you, you're zoned off from Ornn for a really long amount of time.

This wouldn't be a problem if you could dodge his W and R, but that's unrealistic for most top laners.

With the assassin update, Riot basically decided that every assassin is a lane bully now. Akali Katarina Talon all went from being weak early to being lane bullies. The only assassin that's still weak early is Fizz, and he can definitely still kill you if you mess up.

Daunt2 votes

xd How is Katarina a lane bully exactly? She's the easiest melee that you can harass.

Tails90166 votes

She's the easiest melee that you can harass.

I thought that was fizz? Fizz poked you? Wrong. He went all in on you as that's the only way he can deal any meaningful amount of damage, let alone get into range, and he is now open to harass( assuming you didn't die).

If you see me approach a Katarina, it's because she has a 100%chance to die/ get pushed out of lane, or I'm at 300+ping. I'm not dealijg with a EWQE and there goes 2/3 of my hp.

Don't reply to EUNE or EUW players. Every post I see made by an NA person has a bunch of EUNE and EUW trolls. All they're doing is trying to piss you off.

Makes sense, at least in this case. A part of me just wanted to post this gif and leave https://i.imgur.com/ERUHAEn.gif[/img]

LOL so not agreeing to someone's opinion means they're a troll? Does that also mean all NA players agree with each other? I think you're the real troll here.

I just find trolls to be more common among EUW and EUNE players.

While she does have a way to poke a bit and cs early she's still very abusable since she's pretty squishy and is melee. I'm not sure how a champion that has to stay behind her minions early so much is considered a lane bully. She only is if you're actually bad and don't know how to space correctly or when to trade.

He went all in on you as that's the only way he can deal any meaningful amount of damage

How does this not apply to Kat as well? The only meaningful damage on her kit are her dagger pickups.

Cowseed1 votes

Nothing changed with akali other than how her passive worked. If she is autoing you to death pre-6 now that's on you because her change was tiny.

She now has pre-6 mobility. The changes to her W is one of the biggest buffs an ability has ever received. Not only does she now have mobility outside her ult, but pink wards are now useless against it as well.

ninjaroxas1 votes

A tiny blink that can't go over most walls is hardly a big buff. if that small change is giveing you that much trouble that's on you. Also 75 gold to counter a champion was not a good thing

Cowseed1 votes

It can go over most actually. But it's usage is friggin tiny in lane other than escaping or hiding

Serika Zero6 votes

This might be shocking to you, but that's there to make a difference between good Akali players and bad ones. It allows Akali do Q (wait), proc Q, throw Q and proc Q again in a combo.

Basically: proc Q, Q, proc Q as a burst trade in lane. That's why it exists, to give Akali a ok-ish laning phase instead of murdering it. Same reason why Zed can throw multiple shurikens with his shadow and he has execution damage. Same reason why Kassadin takes reduced magic damage and has a magic shield. Same reason Fizz can go though minions and takes reduced damage. Same reason why Kata used to get damage reduction on her E (now she was just given more damage after a short delay). etc.

Assassins need to have a not terrible laning phase otherwise, you could just play ADCs against them and shit on them. And then we are back to adc overlords.

FancyKiddo3 votes

I guess it's Akali's turn on the hate train? "Oh no, I might face her in 2% of my games and then she has a 49% win rate! I CAN'T HANDLE IT!"

With so many worthwhile things to complain about right now, I'm disappointed that people have chosen this.

aqours fanboy1 votes

All it takes is a small buff/nerf to other champs, and guess who'll enter the damn spotlight.

I, for one, would love this to be addressed before Akali blows up and makes me drop League for like a month.

Durzaka2 votes

Her Q is so long because literally 90% of her burst requires her to pop double marks in order to kill you.

Its always been like that.

Janakin2 votes

Don't forget to mention her W. It lasts like 7 seconds and cooldown is like 15 seconds. Also can not be revealed with control ward. Akali needs to be nerfed so badly.

qwerty123x3 votes

18 second cooldown and it lasts for 8 seconds all ranks, the cooldown starts as soon as you press W not when the shroud disappeared. So technically it is a 10 second cooldown rank 1 but Riot write 18 seconds in tooltip to brainwash people thinking it lasts longer.

The same shit happens to Kayle E. They changed it on 8.1 so rank 4 and 5 E only requires 30%CDR for permanent E uptime. WTF, why not just write 0 seconds on the tooltip instead of lying to people.

Also 8 second shroud l0l but that's not what this thread is about

Mainly because her up front trading power isn't great so she needs to pick between using it to last hit and stay safe or using it to apply threat so stands a chance.

It used to be a lot less toxic before her new passive though...

Rustling Bush1 votes

you can trade with her as a melee? most of them got cc, in an all out brawl akali can certainly lose, easily, but she goes for skirmishes where she will trade one blow then shroud away until she chips away your hp enough to go all in.

i think its fair considering that she has no reach (shroud barely counts) pre 6, like Diana who can't do shit but poke you with her q, god forbid you actually walk up to her.

edit: did i miss something, i havent played in a bit but their seems to be an akali shitstorm brewing, did she get a buff or something.

Troll for Trump10 votes

The poke and whittle playstyle is trending right now, because most champs don't have anyways to force that long-term trade.

Even if they can, it often pushes the wave, which causes other problems.

In addition, all-in champs are really susceptible to ganks, because the jgler can come in as they start to commit and then turn the tides.

Z3Sleeper9 votes

In addition, Akali also heals back most of the damage done to her. Damage not exceeding her healing is moot and therefore several champions that are incapable of such feat simply lose to Akali.

she buys a dorans shield and you basically never force her out of lane

Z3Sleeper5 votes

Shroud can definitely be considered reach. Not only is it a one-time use dash to apply your mark auto but it also persists for 8 seconds thereafter where the opponent basically has to stay out of your zone else lead to more mark autos.

Also the cooldown isn't that long at all. Especially considering Kled's dash is a 14 second cooldown and even Renekton's is 18 seconds.

Serika Zero5 votes

she didn't get a buff, its just that the boards/reddit works based on herd mentality. And once someone starts hating a certain aspect that is usually not defended or liked then they all start bitching about it. Especially if that something causes them to die.

Akali in this case is an assassin. She kills them (check), she also is played by few players so they don't know how to play against her (check) and few people defend her (check). So, everyone once in a while, when 1 or 2 Akali hate threads get up, a bunch more are to follow.

Like sheep, they all follow the same direction, till they change it and hate something new. Tho, akali isn't that bad pre6, she's bad in the late game. In the lane you can trade with Q and W. Until she gets you low enough and she might go for an all in. But you know, respecting your opponent is something people on boards dislike doing, especially if the opponent has no skillshots, god forbid you actually just chill out for a few seconds until her W runs out.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

Akali's shroud costs a ton of energy to use and has a whopping 10 second downtime during the laning phase, but I guess that isn't enough time to punish her while her defensive ability is down ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cowseed1 votes

...basically impossible to trade with her as a melee.

Tell that to everyone that can trade with her using a melee champ. It's not magic you know. It's just making good trades.

Total Eclipse1 votes

I was thinking about this myself the other day. Its the nerf she needs.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

Actually it's designed this way because the fast "skilled" combo with akali is : Q Wait for CD Q R + auto while your second Q is flying second Q reaches your opponent auto

For a maximum damage output in a minimal time.

so the "weak" window of akali is like 1-2s after she Q'd you, because she is then far from getting her second Q available.

YuGiHo1 votes

Jax Is un-bothered.

Onandaga1 votes

I agree, this is what I hate most about Akali. I can honestly cope with her insane sustain, damage, and mobility, but her being able to keep melees perma-marked is not cool at all. If I were to change Akali I'd make it so that her E procs the mark again, so that she feels more fluid to play, and in exchange nerf the Q mark duration and cooldown so she doesn't feel so shit to play against.

Pika Fox1 votes

Its always great seeing a champion having been garbage tier for over a year suddenly become fotm. What a time to be a LoL player.

cheerfothebeer1 votes

The real problem is her shroud is entirely too long.

Simpumba1 votes

Akali Q has the same issue we had with Tf, being that you're able to hold his cards and let them keep flipping, being that threat you could lock in a stun and trade hard in mid, same goes for akali, that threat is always there, and there's really no counterplay to it as a melee.
