If you don't want to watch the video, basically anyone, at level 9 even support soraka can 1v1 rift herald, it's a VERY powerful objective now, being able to half health a turret in most cases with one hit. This needs to be fixed immediately, rift herald is very powerful now and it shouldn't be this easy to get, seriously, all you have to do is walk behind it when the eye comes up, it doesn't respond fast enough to stop you! Go try it in your ranked games guys, snowball the game out of control so riot is forced to fix it.

Edit: Downvote if you want to but when someone walks into your lane with rift herald 10 minutes into the game and takes 3 tower's, you'll remember how easy it is to get and realize that it probably shouldn't be.

  1. That takes a long fucking time.
  2. That video is not representative.

For soraka it took much longer, but for lee sin it took 20 seconds, less than or equal to the same ammount of time it takes to solo a dragon, the issue is that rift herald isn't meant to be solo'd, two people are supposed to get it, that's why it has the eye on the back in the first place. If you can just move around it to do it yourself that defeats it's purpose, it's exploitable and i don't give a shit if the video isn't representative, when you lose a game because your enemy laner got rift herald alone and plopped it down in your lane don't come crying to the boards.

I agree. People are too worried about the 1v1, especially since the herald will still beat the crap out of you. One ward is all it takes to turn a solo attempt into a kill and then a steal.

This is a feature. They planned on making it soloable, but I'd say it is a bit too easy to beat. They might come back and make it a harder fight, but it is not a bug by any means.

Zerenza4 votes

This is most certainly not intentional, there is no way in hell they wanted rift herald to be soloable by fucking everyone in the game so easily. The previous rift herald could only be soloed by certain champions because it would dissapear before other's got strong enough to do it, this, this is ridiculous.

Edit: The real issue with the rift herald that's causing this exploit is likely that they used the same programing as the dragons due to the size of the herald, this causes it turn extremely slowly making it easy to hit it's weak point which is again, not intentional since two people are required to beat it which is why there's a freaking eye on it's back in the first place.

They did want it to be soloable, they said it somewhere. Maybe not by everyone but they did expect solo rift herald plays to be made.

While duoing her should still be the best plan of action for ease and speed, lone champions will now have the opportunity to kill her. Her attacks are more plodding, giving a solo artist the capability to sneak around her and land attacks on her achilles heel (or eye).

Zerenza2 votes

"Solo Artist" Sooooo any support, any tank, any mage, anyone in the game is a solo artist now who can 1v1 herald at level 9.

Zerenza1 votes

Yeah according to this guy a full support soraka should be able to solo rift herald.

I agree with this. The speed at which Redmercy was able to kill the Herald in the above clip, and the good health levels he ended up with, all point to the fight being a bit too easy, but with proper tuning it should be soloable, even if doing so should be a risky and difficult investment. I think the Rift Herald's clear model is also one that Riot should learn from and apply to more portions of its jungle, because it's one that allows champions to clear without needing large amounts of DPS. Tanks are obviously the best off fighting the camp, but this also raises the possibility of utility-heavy champions being able to put their strengths to use. Far too few objectives in the game can be reliably taken without damage, especially DPS, and it's high time that changed.

Zerenza2 votes

Certain champions are good at certain things, rift herald should need to be taken by a laner or jungler with the ability to solo large epic monster's, that's fine. Such as using Yorick to solo it because he has his maiden, but making it possible to solo such a powerful objective in such little time with someone who isn't supposed to be able to is what makes this an exploit, under 20 seconds of time for an objective that can easily take 2-3 tower's is ridiculous, it should be much harder to kill solo for champions that shouldn't be able to.

A full support soraka shouldn't be able to solo herald for example, a mage shouldn't either and assassins should atleast need to worry about how much damage they'll take from it but by doing this, simply walking behind it because it can't catch you(dumb). If it were the previous herald that was pretty strong but no where near as strong as this, i'd understand, but the strength if this herald in early game time is stronger than most dragons, it can litterally one shot a tower if it's under half health and then keep on going.

Ultimately i just think that they should make him turn and auto attack a little faster so it's not as easy for champions that aren't meant to be able to solo epic monster's like him.

She's a lady. :P

Personally, though, I'm a fan of giving the Rift Herald a turn speed, and while the camp shouldn't be so easily cleared, making it soloable is fine in the right circumstances. If the Herald had significantly health/armor values and base AD, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for squishy damage-dealers, as well as supports like Soraka, to solo the camp, but it would allow tanky junglers and laners to take it and survive with much better health values. This is what I mean by orienting some objectives towards non-damage classes.

I also really don't think Herald will be able to consistently take multiple towers for long. Just testing on the PBE, the thing died fairly quickly to focus, so if you pay attention to it you should not be losing more than a tower, or even just half of it.

Zerenza1 votes

To focus, however in a solo Que game it's less likely you'll be able to coordinate and stop her. Maybe in high diamond and above it will be possible to stop her but in any teir lower you'll see that someone get's it and then everyone will just be waiting to see which lane it ends up in, if it ends up anywhere but mid lane i'm pretty sure it's taking two tower's because no one's going to go across the map to save it IN TIME, they will still try to but most likely won't do it in time due to lack of team coordination in solo queue games.

Increasing it's armor/MR and AD won't help at all because you'll still do the same amount of damage to it when you hit in the eye because it does a percentage of it's maximum health. While yes you'll take a little bit more damage from each auto attack, that doesn't matter if your still doing the same amount to it and killing it in the same amount of time. Maybe if they gave it a Sunfire effect or, in my opinion they should just increase it's turning speed so you can't walk around it as easily.

That is exactly my point. The intent behind my suggestion is to make killing the Rift Herald more dependent on hitting her eye than just DPSing her to death, which means damage-focused champions would end up with clear times more compared to their tank counterparts. The increased AD on her autoattacks would then damage squishies far more than tanks or fighters, meaning the latter would be favored when trying to take on the camp.

Last game, my Ahri (who was losing lane) practically 1v1'd the thing, since all I could do is smite it (I was losing the jungle) . It's pretty bad...

AmazoX2 votes

It should definitely be a bit harder.

FioraWillCarry2 votes

wow. I just soloed it at level 9. Wasn't even planned. I just sort of did it. It's funny how level 9 is the exact level you mentioned here. Must be fate.

Zerenza1 votes

I'm sure some champions can do it before that but i'm absolutely sure that every champion can do it past level 9

Crazy. You mean, League added a new feature or changed something and it helps people ahead, stay ahead, and provides teams that are behind little to no opportunity to work it?

League likes these theoretical turnabouts. It's loads better than Baron, but still, duo sounds like a pretty reasonable request.

Then again, solo Soraka means she's not completely gibbed when her carry can't do fuckall. Leave him in lane as cannon fodder, take that damn Herald. You go, Soraka. Strong independent support don't need no carry. So in hindsight, I support this. More agency to more players in the game is a good thing.

Zerenza1 votes

Soooooo a powerful buff that can take 3 tower's on it's own should be able to be 1v1ed at level 9 by ANYONE who has the time to do it? It only takes 20 seconds so let's spend 20 seconds, get the rift herald and spend the next minute pushing down the enemy because they had no time to notice the jungler was missing for a meer 20 fucking seconds.

took you some years to notice that
