Orianna's zoning power is too much

"Just don't go near her ball xDDDDDD" #OH REALLY? WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED?

This is what goes on in every Ori main's mind:

"Let me move my Q over here. What's that? they all dashed away? well, darn. I guess I'll have to move my ball in about 3 seconds. Okay, let me move my Q again. What's that? They used their flashes? Why? All I did was Q! Okay, let me move my Q again. What's that? They don't have their flashes? Time to ult! What's that? My ult, w and q do around 1000 damage to everyone? That's insane! I don't even have 200 AP, yet! Wow, how neat is that!"

Whats that? A mobile bursty champ is heading my way!? Time to die because that is my huge glaring weakness.

Learn to counterpick. Learn to counter position. Dont cluster, engage from multiple sides, pick a hard CC or high burst diver. She is super easy to kill because her only hard CC is both hard to hit, delayed and her fucking ultimate. Jesus fucking Christ. I understand when people complain that she abuses Last Chapter to spam Q-W in lane, but complaining about her teamfighting is dumb af...

Well,. It's kinda the point of a control mage.

The amount of salt here is astonishing. Why don't you try playing her once before whining about how "OP" she is? I tried it, and it didn't go very well. Something to note: Orianna has to keep track of the ball during hectic teamfights and trades just as much as, if not more than, you do.

Just because a champ is presumed to be hard to play doesn't mean they're not op.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "High risk, high reward."? If they're hard to play they should have a statistical advantage over an easy-to-play champion if they land the same number of abilities. That's just how it is.

Also, take another look at what the opening post says. Apparently Orianna's able to get people to burn flashes with her Q. I guess that's level 10 players? I have a hard time imagining even Bronze 5 players doing something that stupid. If the Orianna places the ball on a J4 who ults in, it makes sense that people would flash away, but even without boots pretty much any champion can just walk away enough to not get hit by ult if the Orianna doesn't position perfectly.

This is what goes on in every Zed main's mind: "Let me throw my W over here. What's that? they all dashed away? well, darn.... Okay, let me throw my Q at them. What's that? They used their flashes? Why? All I did was Q! Okay, let me dash to my W. What's that? They don't have their flashes? Time to ult! What's that? My ult, e and q do around 2000 damage to their ADC? That's insane! I don't even have 125 AD, yet! Wow, how neat is that!"

See the hyperbole?

Orianna's Q, W, and ultimate, assuming they all land, deal 945 base damage with 200 AP at level 11. At level 6 with 100 AP, her combo does 530 base damage. Zed's base HP is 1459 at level 11, or 1059 at level 6. Zed's base MR at level 11 is 46, or 40 at level 6. That means he has 31.5% damage reduction from magic at level 11, or 28.5% at level 6.

Assuming Orianna has 8 magic pen in Runes (the standard), Sorcerer's Shoes, and the Precision mastery, she has a total of 27 magic penetration at level 11. This means that she'll do 84% damage to Zed, or 794 damage. This is assuming Zed's an utter idiot and builds 0 MR, which is highly unlikely. So, best-case scenario for level 11 Orianna, just over half Zed's health. 54.4%, to be exact.

Assuming Orianna has 8 magic pen in Runes (again, the standard) and the Precision mastery, she has a total of 11 magic penetration at level 6. This means she'll do 77.5% damage to Zed, or 411 damage. This is under half Zed's health. 38.8%.

If Zed is halfway competent, he won't die in lane against her. Not only does the full combo deal nowhere near the damage required to hit him, but he should also be evading Orianna's skillshots anyway. It should also be noted that Zed's standard rune page gives 12 MR, so Orianna doesn't even do that much damage to him.

If you die 1v1 in laning phase, you've done something wrong. You've made a mistake. It's not the game's fault.

This all to say, Orianna has no means of dealing over 1000 damage past MR with her full combo with under 200 AP, let alone if someone evades her Q. So, no, Orianna's not OP, by any stretch of the imagination. You just have to play smart. And yes, I know some people even in the LCS die solo to Orianna. They made mistakes too. If the champion was objectively overpowered, Riot would nerf her sooner rather than later. Counterplay is something they take into consideration, and Orianna has plenty.

Bottom line is Oriana is op. My problem with her, which I believe is her ult when she drags people to the center of her ball? I believe the range on that is too much and also her lategame where she can just pretty much one shot any adc with her ball if she lands it right.

I don't really consider her high risk though because she's quite safe to play from what I've seen.

Have you played her? "from what I've seen" is completely useless unless you have actual experience playing as the champion, rather than against her.

What about Viktor? His W pulls people in, and lategame his E-Q combo one-shots any ADC. Is he overpowered?

Literally the entire point of a burst mage, and that's what Orianna is, is to eliminate the enemy squishies very quickly in late-game. Fast enough that they can't turn around and life steal HP back up or straight-up kill the mage. If the Orianna "lands her ball right," that means your team isn't protecting the ADC properly. That's not a problem with the champion. That's a problem of teamwork and team composition.

Believe me, I thought the same way you did. Then I bought the champion and tried her out. It's horribly difficult to position her ball correctly, she doesn't have much defense (her shield is honestly quite weak), if you miss your ult you're useless for 80 seconds, and her only movement steroid is also the majority of her non-ult damage and is also her only non-ult CC.

She's only OP if you don't know what you're doing and the person playing her does. So, no, bottom line, Orianna is not OP.

One last thing: Did you even read my comment? You ignored basically everything I said. I'm about to give up on this "discussion" since apparently you don't want to actually hear someone disagree with you.

I guess that's what I get for expecting people to engage in intelligent conversation when the subject is League of Legends....

You could idk pick someone who doesn't get beaten by control mages? Like maybe ziggs or lux or ahri etc. Y'know like a smart person would

Ok sure but why1 votes

Yeah, let me just go Lux ADC, every single time I want to play ADC. That'll help me when she comes to insta-kill gank with less than 200 AP.

Killed Inaction1 votes

Even if Orianna has 100% magic penetration on you, her combo on less than 200 AP won't be enough to kill. Your problem is that the enemy ADC, support, and possibly jungler are also attacking you at the same time. There's a pretty simple solution: buy a control ward and ward the river, either in the small bush just outside of mid lane or at the dragon pit, so you can see when a gank is incoming.

Also, make sure you don't panic. If you burn summoner spells before you have to it won't end well, but if you wait too long you'll also die.

There are ADC picks that are good vs Orianna. Caitlyn and Lucian are especially good because of their short-cooldown dashes.

Lastly, in late-game you need to understand that, as an ADC, you'll die if you make a mistake near her. That's just how it is; she's a burst mage with a long ult cooldown (almost as long as your death timer in late-game), so her only function is to take out the squishy champions near-instantly. If she misses her combo, you can take her out with your high sustained damage. And even though it may not seem like very long, 3 seconds will give you enough time to kill her in late-game if you build damage.

Black Cleaveritem 3071 , Mercurial Scimitaritem 3139 , and Maw of Malmortiusitem 3156 will give you enough resistance and HP that she won't be able to kill you if she's your only concern, though keep in mind these will reduce your overall damage. Guardian Angelitem 3026 is also your friend; if you can rely on your team to keep the enemy from re-killing you as soon as you respond, it basically gives you a second chance while her ult is on cooldown.

Orianna has been slightly overtuned since keystones came out. That does not call for the level of hyperbole the boards throw at her.

I guess I'll have to move my ball in about 3 seconds

If only it were that high of a cooldown (after CDR)

dont mind her damage or cooldown.

shes too strong in lane. remove the shield stats it gives. it gives a shield already. why the damn stats?

and nerf her passive so she doesn't god damn outtrade ad champions with auto attacks.
