Got trapped in a tiny sliver of the drag pit by Taliyah's ult.

Didn't really matter since I was a tanky ass Skarner, and the Taliyah accidentally dismounted or got knocked into the sliver with me and got wrecked.

But didn't they JUST make Azir's ult not able to do that like one patch ago because it's not really fair to have no movement options unless you have a wall jump to get over the back of the pit (or taliyah's wall, since it doesn't bounce you back).?

That is precisely why it is fair. You can cross it (you can't cross azir's) and the ability deals no damage (azir's does). Its allowed to have more utility (trapping opponents) because it has no damage and can be crossed.
