SoloQ vs DynamicQ

I understand both sides of this, but I am still for DynamicQ (which means 80% of you will downvote immediately).

The are a lot of arguments against Dynamic Queue that don't apply to me and a lot of people who prefer it over Solo Queue.

The biggest to me is that SoloQ players claim that playing with friends make it easier to climb and that this makes the accomplishment less. I find this to be 100% false. I almost exclusively play with friends, not because I want them to carry me but so that I don't have to carry them. This is a TEAM BASED GAME, meaning no matter how well you do, your team is going to have some impact on the outcome of the game. In Solo Queue it always seems based on luck, which team will get the most AFKs/Feeders/Trolls, whoever wins that honor will lose and if thats you, well too bad. Ranked is not "Can you carry 4 people?", its "Can your team make better decisions and plays than the other team?", personally I think Dynamic Queue leans more towards the latter, whereas Solo Queue is more the former.

There is more to it though, I just play better with my friends. There is so much I don't need to worry about that I can focus on my actual gameplay. I don't need to worry about feeding teammates, if one of my friends is losing we can communicate on how to deal with it. I don't need to worry about taking objectives, me and my friends work as one. I don't need to worry about getting ganks, me and my friends can work it out. Its not that I am just using my skilled friends to carry myself, I legitimately play better when I play with my friends. We can focus the important enemies and feed our carries, we can play what we are good at instead of filling the needs of the team. Solo Queue was not "How good am I as a Solo Player?" it was more like "how many feeders will I get and which current OP champion am I going to need to abuse to climb?". With Dynamic Queue I can play different champions in different roles without my teammates thinking I'm trolling (like Galio or Yorick or Voli Supp or whatever).

I am just sick of having to rely on random strangers who are just going to troll/feed/afk or ragers who make playing miserable for everyone. Dynamic Queue gives me an opportunity to play at my best with friends who I know are also trying their best. I know I am not alone in this, I know there are lot of people like me who can't deal with the toxicity that was Solo Queue. I understand that Dynamic Queue skews ranked a bit, but personally I believe this is only the case at high elo's where individual skill goes hand in hand with teamwork skill (if you are being carried your individual skill will effect your teamwork skill).

so that I don't have to carry them. This is a TEAM BASED GAME, meaning no matter how well you do, your team is going to have some impact on the outcome of the game.

this is the main argument AGAINST solo queue though, if you can't play with other random influences and climb with them in effect; you're inflating your rank in comparison to people who want to, or can only, play solo queue and have to deal with the random-factor.

basically, the added teamwork makes you win more games, games you shouldn't always be winning, and this gives you a rank that you might not deserve, and if you ever play without your friends you may be more of a liability to your team than any sort of asset, causing them to lose as well.

No you should be winning! If you can cooperate better than the enemy team that means you are better as a team! This is a teamwork based game, you need to work as a team to win. Playing with the random influences makes you good as a Solo player because you can carry 4 people on your back, but working as a team always beats working as a solo. A single finger can be strong, but it can never be stronger than the whole hand.

Basically working with your teammates is a more valuable skill than being able to carry 4 people, this idea is heavily skewed due to the past state of Ranked, Dynamic Queue is an attempt to turn this game into the Teamwork-based game it was intended to be.

honestly, the argument against dynamic Q isn't rank inflation, it's about that chance you get matched against 3+premades while solo'ing, which makes it really unfair.

Stephenizgod2 votes

Thats majority of the reasons I see against Dynamic Queue though is that it earns you a rank you don't deserve. Its fairly rare at lower elos for you to be 5 solos against a team of premades (according to Riot so who knows). At higher elos though (Diamond+) i imagine this is more of a problem.

venomous frost2 votes

i've had it multiple times in gold 1 aswell, so i assume it's a problem of all elos. 4 coordinated people pushing down a lane, nobody will react fast enough to that in soloQ and you end up losing all towers.

not only does it give the premades a higher rank, it also lowers the rank of people playing solo, even if this only happens 5% of the time, since you always balance around 50% winrate, 5% more losses is huge.

Hmmm I see, ye that is an issue but its not really a big problem. I said this in another comment but Teamwork > Solo Carry and there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. This is a team game so teamwork should always trump solo carry, thats just how this game was intended to be played.

venomous frost2 votes

teamwork SHOULD win over no teamwork, but if premades play with voice chat vs 5 randoms, the playing field isn't equal. 5 randoms WITH teamwork should win over 5 randoms WITHOUT teamwork, same goes for premades, but 5 randoms vs 5 premades is NOT fair. that's like saying winning 5v4 is fair because the 5 people had more teamwork, yet they have more teamwork because they have an extra person.

You misunderstood what I meant, I was just saying that it doesn't necessarily mean they earn a higher rank than they deserve. I was saying that the team who worked together should get a higher rank than the team who relied on the one guy to carry them. So just because it was premades vs solos doesn't mean the premades earned a higher rank than they deserve. If Dynamic Queue was used properly and it actually matched equal teams against each other, it would be 100x better than Solo Queue because it would place you at your true rank rather than the rank you earned by carrying your worthless teammates.

At first, let me tell you that I have a lot of respect for the post you've just written here on the boards, it sure contains some great insights!

Let's get on with it. Eventhough I agree that it's a good system overal, it still doesn't take away the fact that this 'system' is abused by players at a higher level. I am talking about diamond/master/challenger here. Soloq players tend to be matched against 4-5 man premades more frequently than low elo because of matchmaking 'correction' to make the queue times less immense.

Let's say I queue up alone and get a duo premade in my team and 2 other soloq players VS a full 5 man premade master team. Am I supposed to find this fair in general? The best players in the region queue up together and destroy the soloQ players. It's almost impossible to maintain a high rank if you are a soloQ player. Now this is my main struggle and point I'd like to make.

Also, the competitive scene is getting weaker but more social. This is not what a ranked ladder should be. A true soloQ ladder (no duo queue'ing) will result in more skilled players at the top than that it is now.

I hope these 2 major points of mine will give you some insight on WHY I think of this issue like the way I do. I'm sorry for my english, I am not a native user of the language as I am dutch. :)

Oh hey! Your post inspired me to write mine so I am very glad you commented here :)

I agree that this is an issue with Dynamic Queue and its not one that can be fixed (the population in higher elos is just too small). I am low elo and have never been higher than Silver I, so my opinion towards Dynamic Queue and Solo Queue is vastly different than yours, specially since you have been in both high elo and low elo.

I do understand your point on true SoloQ having more skilled players on top though. If you can get to Diamond+ by working together with random players you deserve a higher rank than someone who can only get there by playing with trusted friends.

Dynamic Queue works better for me because I am not using my friends to carry me, I am using my friends so I don't need to carry random people. I also don't really play champions capable of 1v5's or champions that can take all objectives by themselves. So I honestly do better when I can trust and actually like my teammates, so for me I feel like Dynamic Queue is giving me the rank i actually deserve because I am truly performing better individually and as a teammate.

However, I see that Solo Queue works better for higher elos players. My solution would be to have both Solo Queue and Dynamic Queue, give End of Season Rewards for both but have Dynamic Queue's Reward higher, like Platinum. Also your Solo Queue rank will be given priority over your Dynamic Queue rank. So if you are Silver Solo but Platinum Dynamic, you still get rewards but you are shown as Silver.

What do you think about that? Is that just masking the problem of both Queues?

You have very good english btw, if there is any misunderstanding its definitely on my part not yours.

I would indeed see it as a solution to have both queues available. Not much to say about it since you covered it up already with your post above. There should be a ranked soloQ and dynamicQ. But there is 1 MAJOR issue. If both of them are active, it kinda means that the queue times will be longer, especially for dynamicQ 4 man premades, which will be unable to find soloQ players to fill the roster, because these players will play the soloQ ladder instead.

Truth of the matter is, SoloQ will destroy DynamicQ and also the other way around. There can be only one. And the reason I am 'mad' is because riot choose the bad one for the higher elo players. Ranked 5v5 and a true Soloq (no duo) would have been the most perfect thing ever. That's my opinion. :)

Sorry, but it's almost 2am right now and I can barely think straight right now. Good night!

Technically Dynamic Queue is better for League all around than Solo Queue. Solo Queue promotes a Solo Carry, lone wolf, kind of ranked. Where you basically need to be the best in the game in order to carry your 4 deadweight teammates and beat the other 5 people. Dynamic Queue promotes and rewards teamwork over all else. However, it is currently being abused by lower elos to get to a rank they don't deserve and in Higher Elos it is not even working properly.

If they could somehow fix these issues with Dynamic Queue, it would be better than Solo Queue. People who peak at at a certain rank playing by themselves will be able to rise again by being able to cooperate with their teammates better.

Regardless of which side you are on, please keep the comment section civil. This is not an argument its a debate and there needs to be respect on both sides. Whether I prefer Dynamic Queue or Solo Queue does not have anything to do with my personality or who I am as a person. Same goes for you.

Preference on whether you want to improve in shot calling it mechcanics

I prefer two ladders with different rewards

Stephenizgod1 votes

I would actually not be opposed to having both a Solo Queue and a Dynamic Queue. Both should give you end of season reward but only your Solo Queue rank actually matters or is given priority.

I just very much dislike playing with random strangers, its mostly just a toxic experience and I enjoy playing with my friends.

Same I'd rather have 4strangers then 4hostile monkeys

Most encounters with dynamic que are boosted

I prefer 4friends, but all my friends are within the same MMR as me currently.

this is what i've been saying should happen; re-implement ranked teams, change it to solo/duo queue only, boom, issue solved, you now have teams and rankings for friends; if you say "what about if we only have 4 people to play with?" play normals? i mean... they're there to play with friends...

Stephenizgod1 votes

Well normals are for having fun, practicing, trying new things, etc. Ranked is for testing your skills against others, if Dynamic Queue was used properly, playing with your friends wouldn't have any effect on your Rank. Unfortunately though it is being abused and at higher elo its not even working properly, so this is where the issue comes with playing with friends.
