Support viewpoint from a support main

Am I the only one who kinda misses being the "warding bitch?" I mean here me out, back in s3 when supports could ward unlimited, I felt like I had more control and influence in the game. I felt like that was part of the support role, and it was actually something I liked. Now a days people always complain halfway through the game "we need to ward more, support what r u doing?" Sorry but I already have my 3 sightstone wards, and a pink out that's all I can do now.

I just feel less influential as a support knowing that I can't contribute to vision as much as I previously could. Bot lane is honestly either a boring farming simulator, or a melting pot of non stop ganks, roams, and tp's because usually bot lane is decided the moment one adc gets a kill over the other since by the time they respawn and get to lane their much more behind in cs, and possibly xp and will cheese when they hit 6 before us.

Personally I think the support role is going downhill, and the support utility ap ratio rework thing didn't do anything to help us feel more useful, but in fact hurt some support. And the moment mages started going support, I felt the role wasn't even "support" anymore. Seeing Brand/Annie support really stired things up, but in the end I think it was a huge message that Riot should of noticed and it was a cry for help for the supports.

Support is in desperate need for a rework, and I can only hope they are next after the mages, even though they're probably last on the list to worry about.

This thread was just supposed to be about warding, but I feel there's just so much more to talk about with the support role. Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's because my favorite support (Sona) isn't in the spot I believe she could be in, but that's a discussion for a whole new thread.

This thread will probably get downvoted once, and then lost into oblivion, but I hope maybe someone out there can relate with me.

Just no, being the "Warding bitch" was absolutely horrible. I think your main point is that your teams don't ward so you wish you could still drop tons of wards to make up for that. It's more of your team being so bad you want to go back to being a bitch and walked all over because at least you had vision then. As for mages going support, that's always happened. I've been playing since S1 and Annie bot has always been around. Yes, more supports are building pure AP. But it's less of that being the only option, and more of that teams want more damage to get through the tanky meta we have and having 2 damage botlanes means you push/kill better since the farm game is just nonexistent. Yes, supports are an issue, but it's not entirely the fault of the support role. And going back to being a bitch is not the answer. Especially with so many toxic players compared to S1-S3.

I had an ADC a few weeks ago who refused to ever use his trinket because he was the ADC and was never supposed to place a single ward. Do you really want to go back to that?

EDIT: I was a support main from when I started to until S5. Now I main top and mid. And I 100% agree with Gorenzel. I prefer tank supports, you end up having no tank when you spend all your money on wards.

I hated being a "ward bitch" it made for low interaction impact on the game. Having no items as someone who prefers tank supports felt completely unsatisfying, giving me little use in team fights. The way wards are now is my personal preference here.

I just feel like I had more impact. Now I feel like I always have a target on my head, always underleveled, and can't peel when there's so many ways for certain champs to get to my adc. And now there's going to be someone who can fly over walls with a stun big enough to cover the whole lane, like how am I supposed to stop that?

I hate being blamed for not peeling assassins who clearly are a necessary counter to peeling. This cascades into a lot of other problems too. An enemy bruiser or tank is trying to push through and your adc needs to position themselves outside of the fight, making the bruisers/tanks their priority targets a lot of the time. Then after the fight is lost someone is going to complain that no one focused the adc/assassin which is a pretty brain dead response considering they really shouldn't need to be focused since another adc/assassin should be able to kill them the moment they are even in range to be "focused". /rant

tl;dr hardest part of being a support are trolls who understand the meta

No, I don't miss being half a champion because I need to spam wards and there's never enough for my team.

Or you can advise your teammates to ward.

The more a support wards, the less your teammates ward, and it's been like that for the longest time. That doesn't mean you stop warding immediately, but leave out "obvious spots" so people who are not knowledgeable at warding know to do their job.
