I honestly don't want URF to come back next year

Visigoth··148 votes·8,038 views

I already know this is going to get downvoted to hell from fanboys, but whatever.

Last year, URF was so fun. Everyone who played it was just looking for a good time. People played pretty much any champ and just saw how funny things could be or how they could mess around with people. This year 75% of people just tryhard. Every game has Hecarim Zed Ryze Urgot Leblanc Nidalee Ezreal etc... If I wanted to have fun last year during this time, I would've gone to URF. This year there is literally more tryhards in URF than there is in ranked.

I feel like I would find Dominion more fun to mess around in, because god forbid I try to have fun in the gamemode designed for fun.

I want random URF will entire champion pool opened for everyone and 30 minutes dodge penalties.

Sigma1173 votes

If that happens they better apply full pool to ARAM too. Whenever I play ARAM I can't help but feel there's a decent amount of people who have accounts with ARAM champs to give them better odds.

SeductiveGrandpa6 votes

Dude, they need that long of a penalty for dodging an ARAM because today, I haven't gone a single queue without someone dodging the first game I joined. Its ridiculous that people don't understand the whole: "ALL RANDOM ALL MID" thing. Yes, there must be people with those accounts because it can't just be the cosmos going against me that I see at least a Riven or Kat every two games. (No offense to Riven/Kat mains, I just hate dealing with them.)

You have faulty memory. This zed/hec in every game shit happened about three days into urf last year.

Thank god these are temporary.

JevelFaithful4 votes

Agree on this, thank riot for making those only temporary. I wish they changed their joke next year.

Nobody is forcing you to play URF with the tryhards. But let those of us who are enjoying it still enjoy it without asking to delete gamemode every two minutes.

I don't know how to "like"

I hate to say it, but URF honestly isn't that fun anyways. I'd rather see something interesting and new next year.

Occams Raiser4 votes

Urf is fun when you push to end it quickly. I hate playing with people that get excited over kills. You check the post game logs and find out that after all your killing the team gold difference is 3000 gold. OOOOOH You got so fed. AND LOST. While you guys were fighting my Teemo was ripping towers down.

LOL Spammer18 votes

These are the tryhards we don't like. URF IS ABOUT KILLS! Not winning the game! Nobody cares if you win so long as you have fun! The only annoying thing is when your team is losing by a lot and other team is fed but won't end the game.

I agree with this

If they bring it back, make it 2 queues. One where you can pick your champ, one where it's a random pick.

Stevev459 votes

I had a lot of fun, and saw a lot more variation that what the OP described.

DrCyanide9 votes

Isn't it funny that everyone who says "Only these champions are picked" have slightly different lists of champions?

ValyrianBlade8 votes

People can still have fun playing strong champions. I've gone in to Games where I'm the only person on my team with a "strong" champ and the enemy team has 5 strong champs. And we lose. And no one complains and we all have fun.

It sounds like YOU aren't having fun because YOU don't like getting beaten by strong champions when you pick weak champions. It sounds like YOU complain about the enemy picking strong champions when you don't, and Logically your team is going to talk back because YOU could have picked a strong champion.

Try playing for fun and not minding if you get destroyed maybe? Because 90% or more of my games it doesn't matter how far behind we get my team still seems to have fun. It's only when someone makes a weak pick and that same person complains all game that his Lane opponent(s) are so OP that people get mad in the mode, so if you're that person I could see why you don't find the mode fun...

Tuss3 votes

I share the OP's sentiment. I would like to play fun things (Viegar ulting every 16 seconds, Anivia walling everywhere) but I can't do that when I'm dead, which I will be if I should ever take a single step into range of any click-assasin's ult (Zed, Diana, Kat, etc). And going tanky is almost pointless for everyone but Mundo since damage is so rampant, so there's nothing you can do but burst them faster than they can burst you, which would require you to play the same click-assasins as them.

ValyrianBlade3 votes

I get the point. I've found Blitzcrank oppressive to lane against. At least with most of the poke champions, as long as you dodge around 90% of them you're going to be fine. I had a game against Blitzcrank+Sona lane and dodged his first 20 ish grabs before he finally hit me and it was still instant death. That was one game where I didn't have much fun, but I can't be sure whether it was that or it was like my post said, my lane teammate (who started jungle and came to lane around level 5) complained endlessly that Sona and Blitz were OP while he kept getting grabbed while typing.

I don't think anyone isn't viable. The jungle is pretty easy so if your lane opponent wrecks you, just go farm the jungle or stay near your turret. Otherwise I think you need to place emphasis on someone in each lane having poke or mobility in order to make less valid picks able to survive the laning phase.

AkabaneKun8 votes

Have 70%+ of the champions, have played almost all of them, i'm playing them in alphabetic order, rarely get raped, yes some champs are UP but that's like normal LoL, this game was always unbalanced, what i do see is ppl feeding poke champs to infinity since they can't dodge or abuse the fact they have a 1 min teleport, i did a 2vs1 with mf ap vs an ez and sona and didn't gave them a single kill...i'm unranked, git gud?

Occams Raiser3 votes

The ones that are truely OP are the healers. If you have a heal in urf You should be disabled. After playing Nami, even I think she should be disabled. The others bans are Azir and Malz. Only the highest of retards lose lane while playing them. When I play against Zed I leave the lane go bully some other lane or jungle. Let him have the first tower. Then go ape shit on his whole team for the rest of the game. Passive gold is so high his extra cs is meaningless in URF. He might be the only one fed on his team because you have been bullying the other lanes. They don't have cs or kills. Smash on him the rest of the game.

The Trent7 votes

I think the real reason urf sucks now is that they changed it. They tried to make Kass and Ryze not OP which wasn't part of the game mode. The game mode was supposed to make any spammy chamions crazy op. There were just as many try hards in this years urf as last years its just that they took out a lot of the fun so people started noticing the try hards more. Like first of all they put a limit on Maokai 's sapplings. It was super fun watching the enemies try to escape your army of sapplings in last years urf. they also added the shield nerf and the heal nerf. Plus last years urf they randomly removed champions without anyone complaining about them that was pretty funny too. Like this is riots fault not the communities. We didn't ask for this, we asked for URF.

EDIT: By the way Ryze is horrible in this game mode he shouldn't be on ur list. Hes never in my games.

CubedJustice3 votes

Ryze is by no means horrible in this game mode. You've clearly never been put in RUNE PRISON.

Franco Sanchez7 votes

No, Urf is a great idea, ruined by the community. I actually wish Riot had a perma-banned list of champs, so that we could actually do more targeted bans. Instead of the whole "If I don't ban this, there will be at least one of them in this game, and it will be miserable.". But I also play things with pretty clear weaknesses or fun off builds (APXinZhao ).

GloriousKaiser7 votes

I feel like URF hasn't even been fully explored. There are still so many sleepers, and potentially powerful champions out there. But everyone is too busy focusing on the current roster that everyone puts on a pedestal (not without good reason).

Venom Stoneice2 votes

So true, I've been trying out champs that are pretty good but not popular.

My top 3 right now are Cho'Gath, Thresh, and Amumu.

Cho'Gath has a 1.8s cd rupture, and a 16s cd feast which reduces by half on minion kill. Pretty strong. Thresh has infinite hook combo if you can aim it right. Amumu is the most intensive, but hilarious if you pull it off right. If you mash w (despair) it's on a 0.2s cd and you can actually make it hit faster than every second. Pretty hilarious to play, you just go in and mash w and e as fast as you can after you ult!

DeloricVI5 votes

Even when people do pick these champions, it's hilarious when spells have no cost and even when people are being insufferable tryhards, it's still fun, imho. When I found out that alistar was a thing in urf, I thought it was hilarious to see him spam his heal over and over again. I had to have died to him 10 times in lane and it was still funny to see this champ that's normally a real niche pick or not very common in soloqueue because he's difficult to use, just be so broken against a "standard" midlane pick. All of the others are fun to watch, like with hecarim spinning his scythe and zooming around the map, or leblanc just teleporting around everywhere... it's fun for me at least, and I don't even own any of those champions that you have on your list of characters for tryhards.

I personally love going in as veigar and getting so many stacks I 1-shot people. Even when you're losing you can just go to another lane where no one's paying attention, and just spam w-q combo to clear minion waves real fast, unless you're op enough to 1-shot pretty much all of the creeps in the wave... that's always fun.

Oh pls don't go mess around in Dominion. A gamemode desingned for fun is called ARAM. Dom was made to be competitive and even have ranked (this was said by a Rioter a few days after Dom release). So pls... don't be one more troll in that mode, Dom players already get enough of them nearly every game.

There are plenty of serious ARAM players.

Yep, surprisingly there are, WOAH WAIT, I DIDNT GET RIVEN? OH HELL NO. DODGE.

That or the teammate says our team comp in Aram is crap and automatically assume we lose. DODGE! Or someone didn't want to Trade your Trundle for their Jinx. DODGE!

Makes me mad. Like wow ARAM DUDE!

SeductiveGrandpa4 votes

Me: "Wow! I can't belive I got Gnar, my main, on an Aram game and my team also is a great composition of good champions that work well in Aram!" (SOMEONE ON MY TEAM DODGES OR SOMEONE ON THE OTHER TEAM) Me:-Cries Deeply As I Get Stuck With Quinn-

Hours Later

Me: (Gets Gnar again) "Oh I fucking hate this champ, this team is shit." (NOBODY DODGES) Me: -Crying In Joy That The Loading Screen Has Appeared- (GAME STARTS) Me: Lol, jk, I main Gnar. xxTeamMate69xx: Oh dude wtf why didnt you tell me you were having fun, should of dodged, fine gonna feed. Me: -Cries Deeply-

Hours Later

Me:(GETS GNAR AGAIN) Me:(Completely Silent) (Game Starts, game goes on for 40 minutes, our team wins) Me: Oh, ok, so thats the secret to keep people from dodging.

(TL;DR : APPARENTLY, IF YOU SAY YOU GOT YOUR MAIN OR A CHAMP YOU'RE EXPERIENCED WITH PEOPLE WILL DODGE BUT IF YOU JUST DONT SAY A WORD YOU'RE FINE)

Tryharding in URF is like tryharding in Tetherball on a school playground. Sure, it's a fun diversion, but no one really cares if you're good at it.

I wish that this year Rito would ban some champs from URF like they did last year. I've had the experience of being 2v1 against Leblanc and Nidalee . That ain't fun.

Occams Raiser1 votes

Why were you by yourself in lane? only one of those champs is nasty and it aint nid

SolusInCadere4 votes

WTF? The spear had like a 1sec cooldown, and her heal starts at a 4-5 sec cooldown, and she doens't have to start doran's ring for the mana regen, she can grab an Amp Tome starting off. Nid is heca awsome in URF

Godhri3 votes

it's pretty common sense that once you make something become a regular scheduled thing, people start developing a standard for it. It's no longer for fun.

I just want another actual fun Featured Game. Urf was good until everyone started picking the same OP champs over and over again.

IMO the last fun FG (not counting TT:Hexakill) was Ascension.

boymeetsleauge3 votes

maybe Rito could do a combo of nemisis draft and URF.

I haven't played any URF to be completely honest... no regrets. Just bring back One for All and I'll play.

DrProfVibeCheck3 votes

Omg....imagine if One for All combined with URF...

Teridax682 votes

URF ended up coalescing into a meta last year as well, though, and everyone ended up picking only a handful of champions. To me, that just sounds like an opportunity to fine-tune the game mode even more next year, and see what happens. The changes to shields and heals already eliminated the bulk of abusive mechanics from last year, and most of the issues here I feel could easily be solved with a few number changes and extra rules (by having the cooldown on spell shields and abilities that make you untargetable start at the end of the effect by default, for example). There are a lot of champions out there I feel are both super-strong and amazingly fun at the same time (Bard , Veigar , even Darius ), so it's not like URF has to inevitably descend into a state of non-fun even if a meta does appear.

Next year URF in Howling abyss and all random. Please.

Just gonna throw this out there, nobody's forcing you to play URF. I only played a couple games this time and I like it for that login. The biggest impact it's gonna have is the threads complaining about it... as opposed to everything else that gets complained about here.

Anonymousaur2 votes

I hope next time, if they do bring it back, they make it Aram style. Like get a random champ. Or let each player ban 1 person, make it 10 bans in total.

But don't make it in Aram. (pls no)

Those picks make me sad knowing that ALOT of people just wanna win so they gotta play OP URF champs. Unless they main them then I supposed why not? Maybe they wanna give it a whirl to try it out. Fine.

PEOPLE! TRY DIFFERENT CHAMPS LIKE POPPY, EVELYNN, KARMA, ETC! THEY ARE IS JUST AS GREAT!!!!!

I also stop having fun the moment a teammate says "wtf why did you go ____? wtf you lost us this game! wtf you suk on an easy champ lol!" Like cmon its URF!!!! ASDFGHJKL;!!!!!!!!!!!

Hocker2 votes

the issue really has more to do with how our society views competition and its results. We have a HYPER competitive culture in this country where our social-value is determined by the results of said competitions. With parents trying to instill it in their children to try and help them succeed...the lesson of ego management rarely gets addressed. The egos of the KIDS who play this game are ATROCIOUS! ...and I do blame the parents. The baby boomers and the Gen-X'ers are some of the worst parents in history...and it is evident in the gaming-culture.

Now, I get that this game has a level of fame that you can gain...and the fact that there are girls who put-out solely based on your ranking...but seriously boys, grow up and just have fun with this game.

I always loved URF and will always do,however, last year when Riot perma banned Nid,heca and alistar from URF, it was a much better decision than this year.
