Phage was added to Cleaver so it had more build paths

However at the same time you made Brutalizer have one non-jungle build path. I like the new Cleaver, but it kinda seems like Brutalizer is gonna suck now, mainly because it now only builds into Youmou's Ghostblade, unless you have Smite.

...what.

I don't recall the new Cleaver being a jungle only item...

Misread.

He's talking about how Brutalizer only builds into Youmuu's or Warrior Enchantment.

Ahh, misread then.

Flat Pen is unhealthy for the game and needs to be phased out anyways.

sorcs being removed would cause quite the riot

One, "Riot." Lel.

Two, pretty much the entire item list needs a ground-up rework. All basic items, all boots, and basically any item that wasn't released or reworked in the last year or so.

I'm hoping they phase it out completely soon- it seems to be the direction they're going.

Um, no?

I think you guys just throw around buzzwords like "toxic" and "unhealthy" without really knowing or thinking about what they mean.

I think some people just react to buzzwords without really knowing or thinking about what someone might mean when they use them.

Flat Penetration is inversely effective based on how much Resistance the target has. It's damage amplification that's at maximum effectiveness against enemies who will already be taking the most damage. That makes no sense. Countering someone not building something is completely backwards and makes balancing the game around scalings and base damages that much more difficult.

It's a multiplicative scaling of damage. There's nothing wrong with it inherently.

If you want damage that is equally effective against tanks and squishies, you want raw AD. If you want something to focus on blowing up squishies, you get flat pen. If you want something to focus on killing tanks, you get % penetration. The niches are perfectly defined and perfectly healthy gameplay decisions.

The problem that you can spam them all and blow up everyone is not because of Flat Pen but the interaction between the two types. It also stems from the fact that squishies aren't exactly squishy. Everyone pretty much has 100+ armor by lvl 18 without any items. Without some form of penetration or damage multiplication, damage just gets beaten down by defense. Now, that means % penetration is good at lvl 18, but then there's this weird mid game period where a lack of flat pen would mean squishies can beat down bruisers but squishies have a harder time getting beaten down by people who build Flat Pen (namely bruisers and some magic damage tanks.)

And then the fact that LW and VS give so much AD and AP that they are ridiculously good at killing squishies for a marginal cost.

But to clean up the misconception with an analogy: Why build Vamp? To take harass more easily while still building into an offensive item. But the enemy isn't building something in particular that necessitates building Vamp; the game is just naturally progressing. So, by your logic, we should also remove Vamp, which is silly. The difference between Sorc shoes and Brut and vamp is that vamp peaks around mid game before dps can destroy the regen it takes in whereas Sorc and Brut just get worse from minute one. Sorc shoes are great first items. There is no fucking reason to build them at lvl 18 vs someone with 150 MR while delaying VS.

Honestly, I rather like Riot's design philosophy: counterbuilding should be left to defense on a per item basis whereas offense should be more of pushing you into a specific role. You don't build Brut to counter cloth. You build brut anyway and the other person is either preemptively or responding to your building of brut by getting cloth armor.
