Sadly true, while I'm glad trinkets are an option, they're too easily negated/removed these days.
Kind of an issue with the meta, as long as one player is going to be kept behind, they have to have innate power to keep up, or be useless dead-weight. Their items also have to be restrictive or those get abused by everyone else too.
Agreed, most of their utility is outclassed and superseded to the point of being negligible, which is why kill lanes have made a return.
Perhaps, though marksmen were originally the objective takers, with the repeated nerfs to towers along with buffs to damage, about anyone can split-push with a minion wave or two. However because towers aren't a threat after a few minutes, supports can't even defend them against a hefty minion wave. Ohm wrecker has been reworked a few times only to be immediately gutted because it gets used in 'pro' games, but should be a functional support item, if riot would drop the double standards.
I recall days when supports got more respect than junglers even, those weren't good days either; still I agree common respect for fellow players is a disappointing rarity. Disproportional expectations have made it quite hostile to play in general.
