Why play garen over cho gath

has more silence than garen in a large aoe as well he has low cd true damage ulti that gives him health and does more damage he has a ranged slow with a knock up slow and a lot of damage attached to it and his e is far better than garen e while garen's passive maybe better late game it is shitty compared to cho gath passive early game i'm not complaining about cho i think he is pretty balanced and doesn't really need nerfs but garen on the other hand... why he has even crits in his kit?

Your comparing apples to oranges here, the only thing the two champions have in common is a silence they serve completely different roles.

Garen has innate tankiness from level 1 while chogath takes a while to get going.
Garen can get Get Cleaver and apply it effectively in an AoE circle reducing the armor of everyone he walks past
Garen hits fits into almost any team damage comp due to the fact he does a healthy mix of AP and AD with the right itemization.
Unlike chogath, garen isn't fucked if he gets caught
Garen has no skillshots and is way easier to play than chogath
In the off chance that you have an AP or tank jungler, garen > chogath

Cho is normally played as a tanky disruptor that provides great peel for teammates.

Cho has a knockup + silence while Garen only has a silence.

Personally, I think Cho's better for defensive play where you can build tanky and peel for your teammates. Garen is better for being offensive and picking off targets with his full combo.
